Travelled First twice before with BA A long time ago…
Looking to maximise our First class experience at LHR.
Flight departs 21:00 so can have loads of time in lounge(s)
Have read about CCR and Galleries First. Can’t say either thrills- I see Spa treatments are now gone. I am not a champagne snob but d on’t mind quaffing supposedly expensive stuff!
Can I hop between both and is it worth it to do so?
Just want a relaxing wine and dine with no crowds….
Yes you can move between them, but not sure why you would. Galleries First has nothing to offer over the CCR, except perhaps a better view of the south runway which may or may not be relevant depending on time of year (daylight) and direction of take off or landing at the time.
If you want to avoid potential crowds then CCR. Assuming you use the First Wing check in you walk through Galleries First to get to the CCR, so you can judge for yourself whether it’s worth going back.
The F lounge is a bit nicer than the J ones, but nothing like as nice as the CCR, as @AndrewT notes. And while you are generally ignored by staff in the other lounges, in the CCR they are very attentive and proactive about things like topping up your glass!
CCR hands down. Galleries First is a slightly improved Galleries lounge, but nothing like the CCR. Some of the champers is really, really good (e.g. the LPGS when they had it is £200/bottle retail, £500/bottle in my local posh hotel). They also have a fantastic top shelf to choose from and made-to-order cocktails – while away some time sitting at the bar.
The food isn’t fantastic, but all cooked to order and much better than anything in Galleries First. First is also usually packed to the rafters – not CCR.
You can move between the two, but I have no idea why you’d want to 😏
Thanks for all the replies.
CCR it is then.
Ab-so-so-lutely. First Wing might be closed by the time you check-in, but always worth a quick look into the First lounge. Except it isn’t the First lounge – it’s the Gold card lounge. And right now, a LOT of people have Gold.
Truth. And when I was in there a couple of weeks ago, they were serving pre-mixed cocktails from tins!

Even worse than shaking a martini. Outrageous.
CCR for sure. If there is anything you prefer on the ‘first’ lounge buffet you can pop in there for food or if you ask nicely the CCR staff can bring it to you.
And all of this is assuming you are going from T5?!
Ha – that puts me in mind of that old Harry Enfield sketch where he played a Michael Winner type asking for a Curly Wurly or a packet of Monster Munch with his fancy meal. “Waiter, bring me some custard creams from Galleries South!”

I remember reading an interview with Michael Winner where he said he always parked right in front of whatever London restaurant he was going to as the fine was comparable to parking prices anyway!

We’ve all been wasting are time if that wasn’t the case 🙂 But yes KUL is T5.
Don’t think I’d have the nerve to ask one of the staff to pop over to the other lounge for something. I’m sure they would, but I’d be worried about what comments they might be making to their colleagues.
Travelling First doesn’t prohibit you from being nice, respectful and courteous 😊 Though I really like the pies in Galleries!! 😁
My son has travelled with us in F from being 14, and staff have fallen over themselves to offer him whatever he wanted (in CCR and in flight). I’m sure in the old days he’d get to fly the plane, nowadays you have to accept being able to sit in the pilot’s seat and a full tour on the ground.
I was thinking about this thread while eating a lovely chicken dish with a glass of champagne. Food came very quickly. Service was mixed: one chap would not have been out of place in a top end restaurant. The other was far less competent.
But overall it’s a great product.
