Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Barclaycard bonus not appeared

I upgraded my basic card to the Plus account in March, on the offer of 5k avios with £3k spend in 3 months.

Done that – nothing…..called their customer services (really hard to get through) but nothing has landed yet.

Anyone have similar experience. Over 2 years since I downgraded if that matters.

It is bad generic marketing. There is no bonus for switching from one Avios card type to another – it is technically a switch not an upgrade (or downgrade) regardless of how most of us view it.

You say you’ve called customer services – so what did they say? Some people have previously reported success in complaining about the way it is promoted and described, but as you’ve already commented it’s hard work getting through to them.

Are the bonus Avios showing in the pending Avios section in the Barclays app to be transferred with the spend Avios on the second working day of next month – i.e. Wednesday?

No there’s nothing in the app other than the £10k spend tracker for the voucher. Customer services acknowledged the bonus and have passed it onto another team.

My comments are based on what has been previously reported and others have experienced exactly the same as you. The above details certainly apply when switching from a non-Avios card to one of the Avios variants, but elsewhere in the generic terms for the latter it says that initial bonuses only apply to customers who have not held an Avios card (of either variety) in the last 24 months.

I’m not suggesting it’s ‘right’ because there is an obvious conflict, I’m simply explaining why you haven’t received the bonus.

Well it’s not a very good explanation, because it’s more than 24 months since I last had the Avios Plus card and BC Customer Services acknowledged that I should receive the bonus. It’s a unilateral gratuitous contract anyway.

It’s quite simple – you have held an Avios card (of either variety) in the last 24 months, so you don’t get the bonus. It doesn’t matter when you last had the Plus card if you’ve had the free one more recently.

Rightly or wrongly that’s how their system works, as several others have reported in the past. Customer Service are looking at the same information you are, so they may think the same as you, but that doesn’t change how the system works.

If you persist you will probably get the 5K, but it may be hard work.
