In case anyone is just activating a Bluechain account, I got an email from Bluechain dated 12 May 2025, that:
Due to our ongoing maintenance work, Amex payments are temporarily unavailable on Bluechain. We expect this to last for approximately one week.
In the meantime, you can continue to make payments as normal using Visa or Mastercard, without monthly limits.
If you attempted to make a payment with an Amex card over the weekend or this morning, please note that those transactions were not processed, even if they appeared successful. We’ll be contacting anyone affected individually to help resolve this.
We’re working to restore full payment functionality as quickly as possible and will notify you the moment it’s back online.
Thank you for your patience and continued support. If you have any questions, or team is here to help at support@bluechain.com
Best regards,
The Bluechain Team
So you’ll need to wait at least a week or so before you’ll be able to use Bluechain for Amex.
We want to provide an update regarding Amex payments through Bluechain.
Our merchant agreement with American Express was recently cancelled with limited notice, meaning we are now unable to accept Amex payments via the platform.
I thought it seemed fishy to begin with, I am not surprised by this development. Annoying as I was about to put through a payment to take me to the £10k plat business bonus for this month.
I guess this is basically what happened to Curve and Amex as well?
Bluechain’s merchant agreement with American Express was cancelled.
From the email they have sent.

Initially, during a period of planned maintenance, we explored solutions that would avoid disruption to our service. However, it’s now clear that this issue will not be resolved swiftly.
We understand how frustrating this is — especially for those of you who rely on Amex for business spending and rewards — and we’re truly sorry for the disruption.
Annoying, had just taken out a business plat per the posts here with view to using this to make the spend as unfortunately a few of our suppliers won’t accept Amex. If there are any other routes open to use Amex with HMRC or bank transfer payments please let me know.
I don’t use Bluechain, but as soon as I read “Amex payments temporarily unavailable” I thought, “yeah, that’s permanent”.
Very similar pattern to Curve card and Amex:

Not a huge surprise, but glad that I got this year’s corporation tax paid to trigger the Platinum Business 80K points offer during the brief period it was possible.
I’m so annoyed! I’m about £1.5k shy of hitting the sign up bonus! Need to figure out where else I can spend that £1.5k now…!
What’s extra annoying about this breakdown, is when Amex canned their premium rewards they actively pushed clients to use bluechain so I assumed there was a good relationship between the companies. Obviously, something has changed recently (may be alowing HMRC payments has resulted in too much use!).
Yes, must be something to do with the HMRC use, as they’ve been playing together nicely for years before hand and then this happens within a couple of months of the change?
Unless amex is building a rival service! One can hope!
I see they are continuing the Curve playbook by insisting the problem can be fixed…
