Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Cancelling Reward flight 2nd leg after flown outbound?

    Hi,

I need some help in figuring out best way to handle change in a Virgin Atlantic reward flight booking. The booking was made before the dynamic pricing so the change fee should still be £30. The outbound flight in Mid July is fine and I’m planning to use it.
The return leg however, I would like to postpone by 2 weeks. It was originally booked in PE, now with Dynamic pricing it is currently at 50,000 points which to be honest I’m fine with as have companion vouchers as well to use.
The issue is that the outbound leg is now 105,000 points in Economy and much more in PE and Upper. So, I can’t change the return leg and presumably whole trip will be recalculated?
There’s inbound availability with BA as well which I can use if needed. But can I cancel the return leg of my VS trip after flying outbound? Will I get half or any points back?
cancelling the whole trip would mean loosing companion voucher, a well planned and relatively well priced itinerary and will have a good stash of VS points not entirely sure when I can use them.

    Thanks

They are supposed to re-price the whole trip if you make a change, but they sometimes forget. That’s a gamble, as it depends who you get on the blower and clearly not something you can ask for! You can’t cancel the return leg after the outbound has been flown (4.2 of the applicable terms: https://help.virginatlantic.com/il/en/policies/terms-and-conditions/flying-club.html).

You’re probably best calling them and seeing if they’ll honour the existing pricing chart – I would be very surprised if they are able to do that on the phone, as it’ll need manual intervention to do so. But, be prepared for “no” being the answer.

    Thanks, I’ll give a try.

Can the return leg be changed after the outbound is flown? I’m thinking that might be my best option.

Yes – it can be. They will price it based on current availability, so be prepared for that to be a showstopper.
