Of course I’m not happy with the price @strickers. I’m never happy with the price!
But I had been monitoring it (this place drops prices as you get closer to the stay) and they just dropped to what I paid last year so I was grudgingly willing to pay that amount with no expectation of cashback.
@Froggee Honestly the more you try and analyse it the less it makes sense.
I’ve found over the last year that h.com has been reliable in paying out on TCB but I’ve always cleaned my cookies before going there. The disparity in pricing between clean/dirty/incognito makes no sense to me as per the example I posted earlier.
Maybe I’m just getting lucky in my old age, I got a quidco payout on one of their £100 bonuses last year and the vrbo property I rented was under £200 for 2 nights but generally I trust QC less than TBC these days.
Saying that (and it’s discussed at length on the estore threads) a lot does depend on the affiliate/retailer. There are so many exceptions/get outs that aren’t immediately visible. I lost out on the cb from the Kimpton in Seattle which really bummed me out. Turns out all Kimptons in the US are barred from cb on TCB and I hadn’t spotted the exception.
I really should get better at complaining on the crappy stays I’ve had. That Kimpton didn’t start serving breakfast until after 11am on the Saturday and there were other issues as well. The HI GV in Las Vegas was an appallingly bad stay with no aircon for 24 hours in temps of 115F daytime, 95F at night, and they blocked all the remaining cash on my Wise card when they charged a $500 deposit without telling me 1st.
Holy f*** I think I need to buy a lottery ticket this weekend.
Just had a Marriott BPG approved within 3 hours, no arguments. $556, reduced to the match from the Destina website, which was $294, and they take an additional 25% off so I’m only paying $260.
Nearly $300 off for filling in a form.
Kudos to Marriott for the experience, totally unlike the lies and unethical behaviour of IHG when I tried a similar BPG with them last year.
If anyone wants to try their luck in future there’s a reddit thread on which site’s prices are valid for claiming and which ones are banned.
It’s very strange, done a booking for Ponta Delgada on a hotels.com using TCB, same account, £80 more expensive on the iPad compared to mobile phone. Phone price was what it should be. £120 off plus one key cash is a decent deal though.
@CJD I did
@Andrew. The bed type isn’t the issue. The issue is the cheap rollaway mattress. I genuinely have not encountered such a cheap and nasty hotel mattress.
@JDB I think you can reasonably expect more than beer and pizza! No salad, no vegetarian option and the cheese was sliding off the cheese board! I wasn’t expecting the IC park lane standard but a little effort would have been welcome.I’d add the staff are lovely and very helpful but they are badly let down by, as @strickers said, a shoddy hotel
I had a few short haul avios bookings that I needed to cancel. The fees are back to £0.50 for economy flights at the moment even if I paid more ££. Anyone who needs to cancel might check while it lasts. I’m sure it was already flagged but can’t find where.
totally unlike the lies and unethical behaviour of IHG when I tried a similar BPG with them last year.
Has anyone ever had an IHG BPG approved?
@Aston100 not to my knowledge and from my experience it felt like the BPG team were getting paid just on denials.
@ankomonkey Absolutely agree. Avis are on my shitlist now for not paying out on a legitmate reservation where I clicked through from a 4000 bonus Best Western point link. It’s been six months and I’ve had every pathetic excuse under the sun. They tell me they sent the base points, then they tell me I’m not eligible for the bonus, then I get utter garbage such as “we can’t contact our loyalty team directly, and we can only submit queries every 90 days”.
It’s left such a bad taste that my next 3 rentals will be with Sixt and Avis lose out on $1500 of business. I’m really not desperate for Avis and their Avios.
