Is anyone able to recommend a good multi-travel adapter plug. I’m off to Nepal, India, Malaysia and China. I think there are adapters that basically are good for 100+ countries with USB as well as a standard plug adapter. Thanks in advance!

All happy, just had 12,000 MR’s land in my Gold account, not sure why as I haven’t referred anyone, might be a mistake that gets clawed back I suppose.

That’s mine!! 🤣. Like a number on here, I referred someone a few weeks ago to capitalise on an Amex offer and none of us have yet received !!

Ha, Ha. I’ve just realised I rang up to cancel at the end of my first year and they offered me this to retain my custom, (they must be desperate) if I spent 1K. I completely forgot about it until I read your reply.

I got this last year for multi country use as well as USB- A and C, plus it’s earthed

Google flights time format: is it possible to get it to show flight times in 24hr format, as I find I make less mistakes in 24hr. Having used 24hr for the last 25 years at work, I am very used to it.

I used one of these in SE Asia – Cambodia, HKG, SIN, Laos, Vietnam, and it worked v well, and the connectors to the adapters seem pretty solid esp compared to others I have used

I’ve seen some success with the below, but it’s not always guaranteed, sometimes the clock has a mind of its own.

    1. Go to https://calendar.google.com and sign in to your account
    2. Click on the gear icon and choose “Settings”
    3. Click on “Language and Region”
    4) Under “Time format” check to see if you have it set to a 12 hour clock or the 24 hour (“military”) clock. Make sure it is set the way you desire.

Cathay lounge at the Palladium is now charging £10 a head for entry and you get nothing for that! All drinks etc are extra.

I used it last year to see Hello Dolly and it was free to enter, but drinks etc on top. It is up a staircase and quite a remote location ( understandable given the age of the theatre) but it’s never worth £10 a head.

    @Paul
I tried it in October as I had tickets for the Pretenders. Thought it was quite cool to the point of being sterile and devoid of purpose! The ‘butler’ said Cathay was going to upgrade it somehow as they’d realised it wasn’t working that well. People would book it then not turn up so that’s probably why 10 quid a head has been introduced. But imho that needs to include some hospitality.

Turkish Airlines sell this itinerary through their website:
    Heathrow > Istanbul > Singapore > Surabaya
That last leg is on a Garuda plane.
Connection time is 1hr 35 and involves a change of terminals at Changi (t1 > t3).
    Garuda are Skyteam.

    Questions:
    1. Can I safely assume bags will be checked through from London to Surabaya?
    2. If this is being sold on the Turkish Airlines site, then I should assume 1hr 35 mins is sufficient for changing terminals at Singapore?
    3. That Garuda flight is the last non-stop departure of the day to Surabaya. What happens if I miss it? like which airline should I be talking to?

    Thanks.

India’s special sockets mean a dedicated adapter for that country is likely required if you want something earthed.

    strickers 1,030 posts

Sockets in India can vary to ones that can accept any type of plug to ones that only accept the three round prong ones that were used in the UK in the 1940s. More recent Indian ones are a smaller version of the same, the one listed above won’t work in either of the native Indian sockets. In modern hotels you should be fine with a UK plug, elsewhere you won’t. I think type M are the older version and type D the newer.

Has anyone used Trainline to buy tickets for Spanish trains?

I find omio.com the easiest place to find the trains, then go to the operator and book direct (for all the same reasons you would book a flight direct with the airline).

There’s plenty of competition with 4 brands on this route and highly competitive prices (Iryo, Avlo (owned by Renfe), Renfe, Ouigo).
First class is often only about 11 euro more and well worth it for the extra space.

Travelling Spain on the high speed network is a delight vs Avanti!

    +1

This is the most sound advice! I learned this the hard way on my rail tour of Spain two years ago. Booking direct with the operator provides fuller information, more ticket choices and greater functionality ( seat selection, changes etc). You also avoid the extra fees added by third party sights. I used renfe, avlo and ouigo Spain. All were good but I lije upper deck of ouigo best. Take care with bag restrictions on ouigo and avlo, and be sure to pay for what you take because sometimes they check and enforce the high fees at stations. This is where I initially came unstuck booking with a third party, I could not mofifyvthe bags and had to pay extra at the station in Barcelona for the sake of a few cm. If you want to eliminate such worries stick with renfe as they are much mire generous butvexpectvto pay more than ouigo or avlo.

You said this was old news. I’m telling you that it’s going to stay in the news this week for reasons I’m not telling you, which is partly why I ran this (and why we didn’t run anything on this story last week).

I’ve not seen anything new/revelatory. Have I missed it or was I reading too much into things?

Either Rob or his source were talking shite.

The Phase 2 announcement of IAG loyalty restructuring has been pushed back to mid-Feb I believe. You can guess why. The BA impact is only indirect but it will play a part in what you do next.

@Aston, I doubt there will be any problem checking bags through. Connection will be fine if you arrive on time. Talk to Garuda first if you miss the connection and take things from there. It’s a long trip though, does TK give you the option to connect the next day? Of so, you’d be removing the stress over connections and getting a night in Singapore. Did you check price versus two tickets with onward flight day after arrival in SIN?

I think it’s about 21 hours flying time, which isn’t too bad overall considering the distances and number of stops.
Mainly, it gets me into Surabaya at a reasonable time (21:00 local) so I can start my Indonesian adventures after a proper night’s sleep to get accustomed to the time change.
There doesn’t appear to be any significant difference in price doing it as 2 separate tickets and flying the last leg out of Singapore the following day. However, I need to be strict with the number of days I’ve allocated to this holiday.

Personally I wouldn’t worry much. 1hr 35mins is plenty at Changi even if switching from T3
To T2 on a single ticket. Just make sure to use the Transfer Shuttles if you end up at a pier at the far end of any terminal.

If you do miss it at least you should get accommodation in Singapore as it’ll be a single ticket. There is only 1hr time zone difference so hopefully that doesn’t mess your body clock adjustment plan too much.

I’d expect you to be rebooked on the 7am flight but there is a 10am one in some days too that might be more palatable.

In 12 years I’ve never got the impression Rob ever talked any such thing. I presumedvthe next stage would be what was happening at IB. I also suspected that IAG had hoped impact on seat sales would be minimal and they could move on to generating further income through sale of TP/status. I might be barking up the wrong tree and things may since have changed even if I wasn’t.

Someone has just realised that having the Iberia version being far more generous than the BA version (as it has to be given country dynamics) could be a little tiny problem.

This is why BA is going to backtrack, because Iberia is stuffed if it has to require €24,000 for top tier.

@PeteM, my flirtation with IB is going to be a brief one, they are cheap but a complete nightmare for changes and cancellations, like the AA of Europe!
