I just remembered – the lounges have been so busy recently that staff have been directing people to B and they seemed to be checking where each flight was going from as they were doing this. So it could be that you’ll be sent there anyway!
The next few days could be interesting, power was out for about two hours in San Sebastián. There is some talk of it going down again tonight when the sun sets and there is no solar. EV is currently at 68% charge which should get me to Santander in a few days ready for the ferry. Early dinner and see what tomorrow brings I think? For now the sun is shining and I’m enjoying a nice cold beer at a beach bar.
Hello! Advice needed please. Was refused to board an easyJet plane to Paphos yesterday because somehow between security and boarding the plane, my passport got a tiny tear on photo page.
Uk border patrol said passport was fine by their perspective and scannable, and fine to use.
Sounds like a horrible situation none the less. The British passport photo page is extremely flimsy in comparison to the credit card like thickness of the Irish passport photo page.
The photo page of British passports is now also a credit card like thickness plastic page.
I hope nobody is flying to Spain or Portugal today – nationwide power outage is affecting trains and flights
No electricity at all in the whole country … phones and whatsapp and similar down … yet airport continue to work. It is not England.

I’m actually in Funchal at the moment, but so far we still seem to have electricity, and I have noticed that people are still permanenty welded to their mobiles, so the networks don’t seem to have gone down here (yet).

Makes sense since the islands are not affected.
Reports that people have been told not to travel (including air travel) and use phones sparingly, and panic buying in supermarkets:
Nothing like a few reports of panic buying to encourage just that!
Much like the ‘you don’t need to panic buy loo roll’ here in 2020!
Am in Spain, just outside Barcelona. People are buying bottle water as the mains power has stopped water pumps working in some areas. Ditto fuel stations. Most card payments cant work. Internet patchy. Hotels should be fine as most have backup gensets.
Was “trapped” in car park – security came and opened barrier – then asked for car park fee! Showed prepaid receipt – only real problem is traffic lights out on way back. Some scary driving but motorways fine.
Still all OK in San Sebastián, having a nice glass of vino tinto with my pintxo.
First time I’ve taxed a car in years! Always had a lease / company car for 15+ years. Got my own new car last year which comes with tax for the first year, just gone to retax it and they take AMEX 🙂
I thought the internet would be down but my cousin WhatsApp’d saying her fridge has been off all day 😩. Her mother who lives in a mountain village isn’t affected, however. Not near San Sebastián but maybe they have a different power source!

You know Funchal is on an island, right?
Today’s thread reminds me of one of my most unfortunate travel incidents – arrived at Heathrow with a passport that had been immersed in water. BA were Ok with the passport and I flew to Budapest.
At immigration they totally were not happy with the passport and I was marched back to the plane by two armed guards and a flown back to the UK.
These days I’m super careful with my passport.@davedent – Were you on the hook for the return flight cost? Always wonder how that works
Nope didn’t pay a penny – was a few years ago tho.

All at the airline expense, the way to make sure they check papers carefully. Torn/wet passports may be grey areas.

Ha,Ha, yes I noticed, as I can see the sea from where I am at the moment. My Geography’s not too bad, it’s my knowledge of all things electrical and IT that is not up to scratch.
The taxi drivers over here think it’s something to do with the Russians or the Chinese, they seem to love a conspiracy theory.

Same when there was a national power failure in Chile a few weeks ago. Ignorant offensive american ranting that the Chinese were responsible.
Well the Russians do have form for it, but I read an interesting article yesterday about how Spain gets a lot of its power from renewables but (apparently) the infrastructure for those is less resilient than the traditional systems.
