Good morning from the lounge in BHD. Flight to LHR delayed by 2hrs for weather at Heathrow.

It’s very late for a first post in the daily chat!

Thoughts from the legal eagles please.

SATA Azores delayed my flight from Horta to Terceira with just over 24 hrs notice giving me an 8 hr stopover in Horta rather than 3. This meant I arrived in Terceira over 5 hrs later than the scheduled arrival time. The flight number remained the same.

I’ve claimed for meal expenses and EU261 compensation of €250 each. I wrote a pleasant letter to them clearly setting out my case and received a registration log number from them. That was 5 weeks ago, nothing since and the online portal still says under review. What is a reasonable time to allow them to reply before escalating to the governing body?

@Jim-Utd – the first thing you need to do is to chase SATA for a response, reminding them that it’s been five weeks vs their stated seven days. You now expect a response and the compensation plus reimbursement of Article 9 expenses as set out in your original complaint recorded under ref: xxxxx failing which you will escalate the matter to ANAC. If you do end up escalating, don’t expect ANAC to be to be particularly on your side. Were you able to ascertain the reason for the delay at the time – i.e. does the airline have a defence?

Hi @jdb thanks for replying. There was no reason, we received a text 27 hrs before, but from experience they do this regularly. We arrived at PDL so I went to the desk, conplained and asked for a re routing but was told all flights were full, so left PDL for HOR on time but then had 8 hrs in Horta, don’t get me wrong, lovely place that I wouldn’t have otherwise visited and I made the most of it, exploring a bit of the island, but that’s not the point is it.

I asked because weather or anticipated weather can be quite impactful there and anticipating and addressing an airline’s defence can be helpful. I’m afraid that getting EC261 out of any Iberian airline is usually something of an ordeal.

Yes @jdb it can be. But not when I was there, beautiful sunny skies the week I was there and the week before. To be honest I think their gameplan is to schedule a number of flights then minimise it to ensure full loads. Every SATA flight I was on was full, this was early June.
I’m in for the long haul, took me 18 months with Ryanair but got there eventually!

Has anyone had issues with spam emails from Heathrow Airport. A friend travelled through T3 last week. Since then has been receiving unwanted emails from heathrowwifi@em.heathrow.com. Is this is a genuine email/domain? They didn’t agree to any emails when signing onto wifi. They are worried about hitting “unsubscribe” incase it’s a virus.

Interesting story saying BA will be trialling “Bring Your Own Device” on certain flights.

Thin on detail, but presumably depends on closing a deal with Starlink.
