Has anyone flown United lately? Was on the 13:05 out of Heathrow yesterday in the cheap seats for a bargain getaway with my £350 off £700 from last year.

Not sure if it’s an economy thing or what but they chucked the meal out straight away then turned off the lights for the next 10 hours, we were on the back row so could actually see it was set to night mode. On a Dreamliner too so the blinds all locked to the darkest setting. Not sure I’ve ever experienced it before on a day time flight. No idea what they people who’d been asleep were doing to dodge jet lag as a 16:00 landing time after 8 hours sleep would mess my clock up!

Had a very good meal at Lucky cat in Manchester a few days ago to celebrate the end of eldest child’s GCSEs.

Total bill was £250, paid £100 on platinum and £150 on BAPP.

    Got £100 dining platinum credit

£10 credit on Amex dine deliciously offer (10% cashback)

£30 cashback for spending £150 on the Amex BAPP via Lucky Cat cashback offer saved to card.

2500 Avios for in store spend which I value at the cost to triple boost – 0.92p per Avios = £23.

So overall I calculate a £250 meal cost us the equivalent of £87.

The meal was very good, not excellent but overall 8/10 so I’m pretty happy 😊

Good night/morning from IC Barclay NYC. Reward night stays thru to Monday. Arrived just after 2am having landed after midnight on a delayed VS service.

Despite me telling the Barclay team of the flight delay and my arrival being past 1am, they went ahead and invoked the smallprint of a reward booking and charged my card the rack rate as a no show whilst I was in the Midtown Tunnel on the way there. Sigh. Why must it always be a struggle on billing with the Barclay.

In any event, the club lounge is open this time. Unlike a fortnight ago when they closed it for Colgate Palmolive’s exlusive use, and thought they’d get away with offering this annual lounge pass holder nada in return. I set them right on that 🤭

PS on the IC Barclay regarding the now legendary exploits of IHG interns. A week ago, an intern sent out a mailshot to all guests booked to stay Saturday night (tonight) advertising a jazz quartet evening in the penthouse.

Alas all email addresses were included in the To field; leading to a 50:50 split all week of guests replying all asking to reserve a space and other guests (bafflingly) replying all to complain about the privacy blunder.

Morning from SW France. Having spent much time over the years in southern France, we experienced our first ever “demoustication” against tiger mostquitoes last night. Not a good time to have to keep windows closed from 10pm to 6am when it was probably the hottest day and night of the year!

    Good Morning.
There is a short article by Claer Barrett in the FT today commenting on the BAPP / TP introduction, but most importantly, quotes from guests at the Summer Party [“Glastonbury for points nerds”].
Own up: who made their partner do 5 flights on Christmas Day?

Q: Darling – you know you said you always wanted something silver for Christmas?

A: You’d better not be serious – BA status???

I booked a Club World redemption flight over the phone 10 days ago.
The flights appeared on my account with ticket numbers.
But BA haven’t deducted the miles from my account?
Am I in trouble? Or should I be naughty and let it be?

    895 posts

If you have a ticket then you are good to go, if they choose to take the Avios at a later point you can’t influence that. Just make sure you don’t spend them on anything else, as long as you are willing and able to pay I think you can have a clear conscience.

Have they taken the card payment? As an external transaction that may be more important, the Avios are an internal transaction.

    888 posts

Yes they have taken the payment from my Amex.
Avios and vouchers are still in my account.
You’re right I’m not touching them.
I am worried as it is one of the popular routes during school holidays.

Looks like a BA crew had an interesting night in Milan courtesy of a small mistake booking the crew hotel? Moom Hotel v Moom Motel!

Greetings from a the stifling hot (auxiliary power unit failure) QR330 from Gatwick to Doha, 1h 20m after departure and still not moved. Very poor comms about what is happening. One glass of water provided.

First time on Qatar and distinctly unimpressed! Problems can happen but it’s how it’s handled that is important.

I will likely miss my connection to SGN. Any advice for what I should expect for rebooking?

I had similar on an Iberia flight the other day to Rio. A day flight in either time zone but they still had all the blinds closed and cabin crew disappeared for the majority of the flight. I was surprised to see so many people sleeping.

Can’t help with rebooking, but I have basically the same QR flight in November to SGN, QR328 but 14:05 from LGW, and 2 hour 25 min layover in Doha, so be interesting to know any Info on rebooking in the event of any issues.
Hope you are not delayed too long.

Thanks Gordon. We are allegedly about to take off after 2h 30m but they’ve said that before. Will update re how rebooking handled. Let’s just say I am not optimistic.

Thanks gbv, look forward to hopefully some good news.
Silver lining, as least you can use the Al Mourjan Lounge in Doha.

QR is very good about rebooking in terms of willingness, the issue is more that they operate small business cabins with high load factors so availability can be an issue, particularly if a few connecting passengers from different origins miss a particular connection. QR isn’t so good about compensation though!

I assume you will be attending? Especially as you have been charged for the evening…

Poor show by the hotel, particularly when you informed them that you’d be arriving late.

No, not attending. The event has a $55 additional cost.

For those of you with non-ESTA-list nationalities. Once you have a US B1/2 visa, do you renew before it expires (even if not needing to travel to US in he next 12 months) in the belief that if you let it expire you will have difficulty getting a new one later on?

Trying to see if there is any foundation in Mrs ElGuiri’s assertions…

Good evening from EDI lounge where the hot food choice (apart from the pies) is a chicken, butter bean and ham hock casserole, which in stark contrast to LHR casseroles is absolutely full of delicious pieces of chicken. Why does EDI have a budget for meat way in excess of what LHR seems to have?

There’s no Jude’s ice cream freezer out in the open, but it is available on request from the staff.

My 7 year old and I hate it when they hide the ice cream. Last time in LHR we didn’t even see it
