Good morning from AYQ departures, just waiting for VA1682 to MEL.
Was offered a business upgrade bid, so went for the equivalent of £100 and it was accepted.
Not sure I’ll get massive value for money on a scheduled 2hr 55min flight. Although check in was deffo an advantage.
Good morning readers in Australia and fellow insomniacs. I’m just re-arranging a few itineraries after an extremely stressful day yesterday, albeit punctuated by grounding visits to HFP in between calls to the vet! Our (house) kitty somehow managed to escape from the house (we still can’t work out how) during yesterday’s storm and was found in the garden soaking wet and with a broken leg 🐈⬛ 😭. Thankfully the vet could see her straight away but she has to go back for an operation on Monday to repair her femur. To top it all, the vet doesn’t accept Amex …
Anyway, in travel news, our MAN-MAD-ACE flight in October has been scuppered by IB moving the MAN-MAD leg back by 8 hours so the connection now doesn’t work.
The LCCs want an arm and a leg for seats and a checked bag, which we need due to OH’s dive gear. Also I would prefer to book with avios for the flexibility (BA only flies this route from LGW which does not work for us!)
There is a MAN-BCN-ACE option where the times work, but both legs are on Vueling 😩 …
Am I asking for trouble going for this option?
(As I understand it, we would get checked bags and limited seat selection, but no other OW benefits).Though, just read in the HFP article from last Feb that Vueling redemptions are non-refundable so it looks like it’s back to the drawing board 🤦🏻♀️
If I call BA to book (definitely can’t do this online), could a get an award booking with a 1 night stopover in MAD all on one PNR? I know from bitter experience that if you have separate bookings, Iberia will just say it’s tough if one of them gets messed up due to them tinkering with the other!
@Northern Lass. Sorry I can’t help with flight conundrum. Vueling recently cancelled a flight I’d booked yonks ago and I’ve been forced to use Ryanair to return (back from AGP and limited options as flying out of CWL ).
Hope Kitty is ok in the long term . All very stresssful for you . Right, boarding’s been called so off to gate to catch a bit of sun on the geriatric express 🙂Good Morning from the Ice Hotel, Jukkuslarvi Sweden where it’s a balmy minus 21 Degrees C. Our night in a cold room was actually very comfortable, warm and we managed to sleep despite it being minus 5 degrees C. A very surreal experience.
The Ice Hotel is magnificent and everything I was expecting it to be.
Our Artic trip has been nothing short of amazing, we’ve seen the most beautiful Northern Lights in Tromsø and Abisko, been reindeer sledding and still have Snowmobiling and Husky sledding to come.
BA flight into Tromso gave us 80 TP and Gold status!
@NorthernLass, oh poor kitty, hope she’ll be alright; she must have been terrified in that weather. Last day for me in Abu Dhabi, then home to see where my bins are!

Would love to read a trip report about this – sounds great!
@Sobeboy15 – sounds like you are enjoying your trip, I can relate to your experience staying in an ice hotel, we had a multi city trip with Untraveled paths, to Romania, two years ago, one of the highlights was a night in the ice hotel in Traseu Bâlea Lac – Şaua Caprei, Cartisoara, reached it by cable car as the road that featured on Top gear (Transfāgărăsan Highway) was covered in a few metres of snow, a great experience.
@NorthernLass BTW Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are connected by a ferry, am not sure if MAN-MAD-FUE on IB would work and then you get the ferry.
@Richie, thanks but I’ve done that ferry – not by choice – and it wasn’t much fun! The problem is that the MAN-MAD flight now lands at 22:45, making it too late for any same-day connections.
Pondering my last ever tier point run – interesting tho MAN-LHR-CAI 120 tp but MAN-MAD-CAI 180tp or MAN-AMM-CAI 180tp or MAN-LHR-MAD-CAI 220tp – any ideas or comments please .
@davedent, not done either but I don’t think the CE seating and service are hugely popular on those routes; you might not care about this though if TPs are the priority.
Kitty is languishing on her fleece blanket thankfully too zonked on her meds to attempt escape from her cat tent. VLC is out of the window until the end of the year; we tried to move it due to other issues, but the prospect of having a post-operative cat has now totally put the dampers on it!
@NorthernLass Sorry to hear about kitty, still haven’t managed to get one here, although favorite check out person in Tesco offered us two for free, OH more keen than me due to my being more keen on travel than he is, we both don’t like putting them in cat hotels.
Hope you manage to get your flight woes sorted.
@Misty, thanks, we’re fortunate in that the teenager is all grown up but still doesn’t want to travel with us and has proved satisfactory at house and cat-sitting! We did put her in a cattery for 10 days when we all went on a family trip to Spain last year and she seemed fine – it’s part of a big farm local to us so I know they’re kept in good conditions.
Starting to wish I had picked Tenerife instead of Lanzarote, a different kettle of pescado in terms of accessibility!
@NorthernLass Hope the Kitty surgery goes well on Monday.
@NorthernLass, so sorry to hear about your kitty. Poor little thing. Fingers crossed all goes well on Monday, and I hope your/her weekend isn’t too stressful.

That sounds amazing.
Never done anything like that.
Thanks for giving me ideas now!Good evening from Bangkok. On topping up our liquid refreshments from vending machine, I noticed the next machine did Chicken Breast Smoothies. Various flavours like Lychee and Grapefruit flavoured. Yum. OH had great day – 8 hrs in one shopping mall. Many more down the road !! Nothing seems a bargain to me and it makes you realise how relatively poor the Brits have become.
Good Afternoon form Hilton Madrid Airport where from booking a base room, we have been upgraded to one of the one bedroom suites.
Originally upgraded to a King Relaxation room yesterday, then booked an eUpgrade overnight and on arrival advised the charge (€20) had been waived.
A very nice start to our long weekend here.
Sorry to hear about your cat Northern Lass. It’s always worrying when our pets get themselves into scrapes.
Interesting story on LoyaltyLobby about a Saudia flight that had its fuel and maps confiscated and was prevented from leaving AMS because the airline had not paid 50k euro that was due to euclaim.com’s customers.
1st time I’ve seen a claims company flex its muscles in that way.
Watch out Wiz and others!

They are well incentivised to pursue this on behalf of their clients.
Hi All, Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but I cannot see anywhere else to ask, having searched PayPal. I want to pay £1134 to a gym/spa company that does not accept AMEX. I know you can pay via PayPal and use an AMEX credit card. However, they do not have PayPal either. I do have their bank transfer details, so if I pay via PayPal using the bank transfer option via my AMEX card, is it like a cash advance, so I’ll get charged by them, or is it like paying a bill? Anyone know please as I cannot seem to find out for definite. Thank you

Oh that’s good – can’t see it happening here! There were 800+ CCJs against Wizz before the CAA thought it’d be a good idea to tell them this is a bit naughty and to play ball?!
