Morning all. Everyone been having a lie in today?

Will be off to the CP Docklands layer before flying to Berlin tomorrow.

Yes, indeed, and just about to put the bacon under the grill!

I’ve just spotted another 100% bonus offer for buying points in my IHG account, I must have missed the email and haven’t seen any other announcement. Similar with a double night credit offer recently, though I’ll only have 1 qualifying night before the offer ends on 31/7. So it’s worth looking at your offers and points pages as these are targeted – OH doesn’t have either.

At the current exchange rate 70k points is £256 using Curve backed with Barclays avios card, so 0.36p per point. Not many outsize value opportunities these days, but I save my purchased points for GCM hotels which currently give 1.5p – 2p per point.

    Morning all.

As the Conrad is no more (what was a lovely hotel), which Hilton would you guys suggest for Miami? I’m leaning towards The Bentley, but it’s just a quick stay for my friend and I, other than somewhere to reflex between escapades, I don’t have any other requirements really…

There is an article about it today.

I think I got an email but I’m not in the market to buy at the moment. But just checked the app (logged in) and it’s showing up there.

Advantage is points stays are CSU use qualifying so good from that perspective.

I do have the bonus night offer. I already converted one night from points to cash. £ 103 a night = £ 62 per qualifying night after the bonus.

I had to cancel another booking this month but I can get 4 nights for £ 401 at the HI Amex Sur Mer costing £ 50 per qualifying night which is darn good value. I’ve got a couple of projects to finish so I’ll use the room for that during the day and sleep in my own bed at night!

Along with the other points offers I feel sometimes doing a thesis woukd be easier than working through the options!

So there is! I also get a chunk of my nights towards qualification and milestone awards from points stays.

I’ve got 4 cash nights in Madrid in a few weeks but sadly the 1st night’s stay is the last night of the offer. I would actually consider bringing the flight forward by a few days maximise the double night credit but it was a cheap, non-refundable IB booking and prices are now 3 times as much!

I wonder if I could squeeze in a couple of nights locally on the pretence of whisking OH away for his upcoming birthday …

@NL where are you using IHG points in Madrid? It us a bit of a frustrating city re the major hotel groups. Marriott are all shockingly expensive, IHG bar the more central Indigo aren’t great location-wise, and NH and Melia have eaten their breakfasts in terms of best locations

I’m not – cash prices are very reasonable for a capital city and I want the 8k bonus points for 4 paid nights. I have seen the voco for 22k points pn though.
Actually opted for the airport HIX in the end for a whopping £70 pn, it has a pool and we’ll be Ubering a fair bit anyway to avoid the heat!

Buenas tardes from The Club LIM waiting for my IB flights back to LHR via MAD. Am straight back into a couple of work trips on my return so probably no time for a trip report, but if anyone has any questions about Peru/Colombia (there’s at least two forumites with upcoming trips IIRC?) I’ll do my best to reply.

@NorthernLass, interested to hear your verdict on the MAD HIX after your stay, both OH and son are hotel pool fanatics and as we are often in Spain would be good to know how you rate it

I’ll certainly let you know, @tootsci, but it looks to be the size more for cooling down in rather than proper swimming! The Indigo Gran Via has a rooftop pool but again, it looks more suited to posing by than swimming lengths.

I’ve stayed at that hie a couple of times, has a small pool and hotel is fairly new, air con was great , which for me, is the best part.

The Aloft Madrid used to have top floor rooms with huge terraces that one could exit and walk along the edge of the other terraces to a gate leading to the pool deck. Sadly the hotel designed them out. I recall they came with a retractable sun shade so one wasn’t being overlooked by anyone in the roof bar.

@NorthernLass Yes I stayed at the Indigo in Madrid for my overnighter before flying to Lima as a recce for them regarding the pool and it’s definitely for posing by/in rather than swimming sadly. Not that I could have done either even if I wanted to as the rooftop bar was closed for a private function, as was the main bar for another event. I ended up having my welcome drink in the lobby! I had the impression this was quite standard for this particular hotel

The Indigo Barcelona Plaza Catalunya has a decent pool, trying to find something like that for them

The Indigo Plaza Cat. was well positioned, but with torrential rain, we couldn’t even make it across the courtyard to the gym.
