Downgraded Gold to free ‘Rewards Credit Card’ Amex and got a 2nd MR account

I want to downgrade my preferred rewards gold to the free Amex (rewards credit card) so i can keep my points. I have both cards now but the balance of membership points showing on the free amex is zero. How do i transfer my MR points from showing on gold amex to the free (rewards credit card) amex. Anyone had this issue before?

Very carefully, and be prepared for issues!

It seems that you get a new MR account with each MR-earning card. You have to contact customer support to “link” them.

I would strongly advise calling, though, rather than online chat. Both times I’d done it online they’ve massively mucked up the process (cancelled the wrong MR account, reset counters on spend-bonuses, unlinked transfer partners, all leading to more chats/calls/hassle), even in one case claiming the issues I had were nothing to do with AMEX…(!)

Make sure you have timestamped screenshots of the balance on your Gold account before you make the link-request.
