Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Final leg 2-4-1 – LHR – MAN Club Europe worth it?

  • 107 posts

We have booked MAD – MIA – MIA – MAD – LHR all in business using our 2 4 1 Amex each leg involved phoning BA who were great. with a separate booking of MAN – MAD

Are there any advantages to phoning up again flying from LHR – MAN in CW or better off at the back of the plane

    TIA

Probably no advantage in flying Club from LHR to MAN, apart from the guaranteed empty seat next to you.

Your international flight from MAD to LHR in J Business Class gives you access to the Lounge at LHR before your onward flight to MAN.

Make sure you keep your MAD-LHR boarding pass, as that is what will get you into the lounge at LHR.

I don’t know what you baggage allowance will be on the LHR-MAN segment so if you are checking more than one bag you might need to consider that.

Is this LHR-MAN on a separate ticket because if it is your bags won’t be checked through so you’ll need to make sure you have left plenty of time between flights.

Thanks – it was the lounge at LHR that interested me, not 40 minutes on a plane

Yes, bags (if needed) as @Alex G says

I’ll try and sweet talk BA tomorrow If I’m lucky I will get the same lady that goes to the same farm shop as me just off the M62

Presume the separate journey MAN to MAD is for reduced APD. So you don’t want to link them. Only upgrade to CE if you want bags , comfort or lounge .

Could you not have booked the return as MIA-LHR-MAN on BA? If so, you should have been able to add CE for free LHR-MAN, and it would all be on one booking. Agree it’s not worth any extra just for 40 mins in CE, but if free then it’s worth having a bit of extra comfort, priority boarding, etc.

Could you not have booked the return as MIA-LHR-MAN on BA?

I was wondering if MIA – MAD – MAN would have been a possible and better routing that flying via LHR?

Yes all to do with APD

Booking MIA LHR MAN with BA was stupidly expensive even queried it a few times was in excess of four figures and more avios for the one leg as against the £510 total cost excluding the £170 getting to Madrid

Just looking at my scribbles MIA – LHR – MAN £1294 & a lot more Avios. They weren’t the worst numbers

Which cabin/how many people was this for? Did you look at the pricing online first? You should be charged the standard RFS price for a BA award flight, which would start at 90k avios, off-peak, pp, in CW, plus around £240 pp in fees, for the MIA-LHR leg. The LHR-MAN leg would be free of charge if on the same booking. So if 2 of you travelling, 90k avios (with the voucher), plus 2 x the fees.

All Business except LHR MAN. Two of us with 2 4 1 Amex. The MIA – MAD was peak

Even coming back via MAD we will still be on the same LHR – MAN flight, even if we had flown direct to LHR

But where did the discrepancy in cost come from? Sometimes BA does get into a bit of a tizz re-calculating the fees, but HUACA often sorts this out.

Also, would it not be easier to fly MIA-MAD-MAN on the return rather than negotiating the horror of LHR after a long flight and the extra layer of security?

Every time I phoned, the issue was the MIA – LHR leg – Best case was 90k in Avios using 2 4 1 & £475

Only had 57.5k avios remaining having booked the outbound. To make up the difference was silly money

The flight from MAD – MAN direct leaves at about 1700hrs. We are on the 1400 hrs LHR – MAN & will have spent a few hours in the lounge

I phoned up on Saturday to see about adding the LHR – MAN leg and was quoted £80 + and a load of Avios – didn’t take them up

Called again today 7500 Avios + £8 for the two of us – go figure!!

The power of HUACA?! So have you got that all on the one booking now? That 1400 MAN departure is the best one to get, IME, the later ones seem to suffer more disruption.

    Yes all one booking
