Hi all, I don’t have status and I tried to use a reward voucher today for an upgrade E-PE, the reward seat checker points difference was 76k points and confirmed on the booking site, I expected to use the voucher + 1k points. I was told however that the points difference on “their” system was 120k points. I spoke to two agents and both said the same thing “dynamic pricing”. Does the reward seat checker and booking site not show the dynamic points cost when using a voucher upgrade? Thx.
What was the time lag between you checking the price and the phone agent checking the price? It has been reported on here that prices appear to change within minutes, nevermind hours. I have to assume cock up rather than conspiracy on Virgin’s part as this extreme lack of certainty is going to kill their scheme.
Thanks for your reply. I was double checking the online price while on the phone to the agent! Both agents were very clear that their system calculated the point cost differently then the reward seat checker on their website.
That’s a complete loss of consumer trust then. If a consumer can’t replicate the cost an agent sees for a simple redemption flight, the consumer will expect the price is set by a dartboard each time they call. Shocking stuff from Virgin. I feel bad for the impending redundancies amongst the excellent call centre staff. They’ll have nothing to do with the drop off in interest in the scheme.
Were you trying to upgrade an economy ticket you’d already booked? I think in that case they use the reward saver pricing on the booked leg to calculate the difference between classes, Rob has written about this a couple of times.

Hiya, I was trying to book economy and upgrade at the same time. Thanks for the tip I’ll search the forum.

I agree. I find it difficult to believe at this is compliant with consumer regulations as it’s completely misleading to advertise a voucher has a particular value when in fact the real value is not determined until point of use.
