Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Magnolia – St Louis

    Hi,

I’m a frequent IHG user so not very familiar with Marriott generally. I have Gold status through Amex Platinum. I’ll be in St Louis for one night in July, requiring 2 rooms for a family of 4 people. We are arriving quite late and leaving early so wanted something relatively cheap and central. The Magnolia seems to fit the bill. I looked on Marriott and they want £129 for the room. Same room on Hotels.com is £110. Normally in this situation I would call IHG and they would match the rate offered on Hotels.com. I called Marriott and they said they can’t match the rate. I called the hotel and they said their rate would be even more than Marriott (didn’t give a figure).

Has anyone else experienced similar? Any ideas for me to be able to book with status?

    Thanks in advance.

Are you saying you’ve actually got IHG to match a rate? You should play the lottery.
I’ve just booked a 6 day stay at an IHG property without beating myself around the head trying to get IHG to stump up on their guarantee. Got 20% back on TCB US and the rate was over 25% lower on hotel.com plus 2% back on hotels.com itself. Sometimes it’s not worth the points and status, cash is better.

Anyway, for Marriott, don’t call just follow the terms of the best price guarantee and fill in the form. https://www.marriott.com/online-hotel-booking.mi

I found them incredibly helpful, even got a follow up from the hotel asking why a case had been opened against them and could they do anything for me.

But you have to book the same rate type first so make sure you’re comparing refundable rates on both sites.

I’ve done it twice with IHG and both times it was easy. I love my IHG status as contrary to things I read here and on Flyer talk, I’m nearly always treated very well. I get good upgrades, late check out and really nice free breakfasts. On one trip recently the hotel gave all 6 of us staying (booked with my status) free breakfast and free drinks vouchers.

To be honest I’m not that bothered by the status benefits with Marriott as I’m quite low down (Gold). Although, I would rather book with them than support the now poor Hotels.com reward package. Thanks for the tip, I’ll fill out the form. Was hoping to not book a cancellable rate through.

Just as a follow up, I completed the form and Marriott not only matched the rate, but as part of their price guarantee gave me an additional 25% off. Great result.

Thanks for the advice Davefl. HfP saving me money yet again. I lose track of all the amazing advice I have been given here and the savings I have made because of this site. I even used to use a debit card!

You’re welcome, glad you got a good result.

Hope you don’t get stuck in the tram on the Gateway Arch, I was trapped with an Indian family for nearly half an hour.
