Forums Payment cards American Express Merchants that process charge asap? (For BAPP CV)

  • 14 posts

I’m just £100 shy of the £15k spend to earn my Companion Voucher and it must be done by Tuesday 20/5. I have a charge from CrossCountry rail that is still pending and it’s driving me nuts, what if it doesn’t process in time :*(

Being the weekend isn’t probably helping, maybe it will all be fine tomorrow. But does anyone know of any merchants that are good for processing a charge asap? (I could book a refundable hotel or buy gift cards etc.)

I know I’m cutting it close and should have sorted it last week. Thanks for any suggestions x

@KookyCat28 – given the importance of making sure you cross the threshold in time, for certainty I would do more than one type of transaction.

As you say, it being Sunday doesn’t help and there’s a lot of change in the payments world so what was quick to process before isn’t necessarily today. As a financial institution, PayPal payments should process quickly so it might be worth considering that. I would expect a payment at a big supermarket also to process quickly. So if you can bring forward a bit of varied spending going comfortably over the £15k today you greatly improve your prospects.

Going comfortably over also reduces the risk of some pesky unexpected refund popping up at the wrong moment.

    Most Filling Stations process promptly.

Top up your Octopus account, buy an Amazon voucher, supermarket spend. Lots of choices.

Amazon is pretty quick, also supermarkets as mentioned.

    Agree on hotels.com and supermarkets.

I’ve also found Airbnb to be speedy.

Buying Amazon gift card is normally v swift also

Same exact question asked a month or 2 back. Amazon did the trick.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I added an Amazon gift card and a hotels.com refundable booking, purchased on a Sunday. Everything cleared from pending to a charge on Monday. So I did earn the CV just fine 🙂

FYI the Track Your Earning feature (showing progress towards CV) is a little slow to update with your spend balance. But Amex chat (via the app, on a Sunday, very kind) did confirm that doesn’t matter as they use the actual total spend to date. My tracker finally updated a day after the purchases cleared from Pending.

Now I think I’ll downgrade this to the free BA Amex and try to get my husband on the Barclays MC for the upgrade voucher 😀

Well done! Thanks for reporting back. Would’ve been a shame to miss out so close to the threshold. Is the CV in your BAC account yet?

BTW – why downgrade? Why not cancel and reset the clock for any bonuses? Use your MC in the meantime
