-
Booked my reward booking using credit card upgrade voucher to upper class from London to Seattle. The agent told me that because the booking is made with points and vouchers, I am unable to book Edinburgh to London with Virgin. I had to book this regional connection flight myself with BA.
This means I have to transfer at LHR both ways, including checking in luggage both ways in London. Does this sound right? Sounds like a lot of extra work!
You can only use the vouchers on Virgin metal and Virgin doesn’t fly to Edinburgh. Flying down to LHR is pretty standard stuff for reward flights. You’ll get to know and love the hotels on Bath Rd after a while and the wonderful 423 (bus stop 6) rattling it’s way around the perimeter.
Yes, it’s a lot of extra work and the reason I only use BA on routes where there’s no other option but to fly (on one PNR or HBO) via LON. When I come to use my Virgin voucher it’ll be on a direct flight from MAN.
Thank you. What a nightmare. Hopefully, they will restart the EDI to MCO route, if not starting any new routes.
Yes, the lack of connecting flights is a pain. I looked into flights to the West Coast when they were offering the 50% rebate on points bookings, and found that using a BA voucher for solo traveller would have cost me about 65k miles and £850 including the EDI-LHR connection, while Virgin was a similar number of miles (before 50% rebate) with a PE-UC upgrade, but about £100 more of taxes.
So any savings from the 50% renate would have been wiped out by connecting flights and/or hotel.
