Has anyone booked around the world trip using the one world website and any tips on doing so starting off going east please. Any ideas on best way to use avios or 241 voucher. (Looking at doing buisness class for me and wife).
Thank you all
Do you watch Matt’s Planet on YouTube? He’s just done a great piece about selecting and booking a One World RTW ticket, albeit ex-EU with status in mind.
Regarding Avios, the multi carrier rewards chart is likely your friend here. 280,000 Avios plus taxes etc. per person in business may well be attractive and gives you loads of possible legs.
241 well be hard to use for RTW unless you only want to use it for one segment. You could book an open jaw with it, but there are very few combinations that actually work to go RTW with it. Heading east you can open jaw outbound LHR-SIN-SYD (on BA) and then inbound on either SCL-LHR (BA) or SCL-MAD-LHR/SCL-BCN-LHR (IB). Of course that outbound is possibly the redemption with the fiercest competition! LHR-HND out and YVR-LHR back also just about works, busy the outbound is still in huge demand. You’ll be left crossing the Pacific on a separate ticket.
Ah, I found the thread where I’d looked at where in the USA open jaws successfully with HND, that time with the Barclaycard upgrade voucher in mind.
I did look into options for open jaws from HND, but you need to be looking west coast Miami certainly won’t work.
Works:
SFO
YVR
PDXDoesn’t work:
LAX
SEA (by 3 miles, according to gcmap so with a punt?)
According to various reports on Flyertalk, the Multi Carrier reward rules have been tightened up, albeit not in any clear, published way. They are supposed to be either a single or return routing, round the world with multiple long stopovers aren’t allowed now.

This was reported here a long while back. BA and its partners don’t want multi carrier awards to be used as RTW tickets as a way of circumventing the latter’s fare rules which apply to all carriers, not just OW but ones.

Tried and gave up as it was error prone and useless, (Matt’s Planet video, article pointed out some of the issues once he got round to trying it)even BA’s agent was better, but hen again I’m not sure I’d do that again either!
Next time it will be a good TA (if I want BA status again, this time without flying with them or giving them any revenue!) or the AA RTW desk.
Lots nads lots of info on OneWorld forum on Flyer Talk, I’d suggest you head there.
