Forums Other Destination advice Washington DC Hilton or Marriott points stay recommendation

Will be in Washington on a Friday in a couple of weeks for one night with family. Landing late evening with a relaxed Saturday morning and early afternoon to explore, before flying onwards. Any recommendations for a redemption stay please ? I have Diamond and Titanium. I was thinking the Waldorf Astoria for no other reason than because it is the Waldorf Astoria (110k points; but no lounge and we’ll really just experience the bed and breakfast) or something for around 60k points that’s comfortable to sleep central and just does the job. Any advise welcome. Thanks !

The Marriott Marquis can be reasonable on cash when no convention centre events are happening. The Canopy Embassy Row is 80K. The Conrad 85K. Considering when I booked, the Canopy was £300ish pn and the Conrad £650ish, I went with the Conrad. Though the Conrad’s lounge is scoped out of usual Diamond lounge access benefit.

Stayed at Conrad. Was 85k points. Had a little trouble and was offered 10k return. Nice hotel. Super location, about 7 minutes to White House. Great breakfast options, we took ‘to go’ for three people (two adults, one five year old) and with $50 Diamond credit was a reasonable $26 extra. There is a paid for lounge at $170 per person which whilst it sounded nice, I would have used for breakfast only, so major overkill. Really professional concierge (turns out the president of the local concierge fraternity) – could run lessons for others ! Had to debate an upgrade and late check out – seems to be de rigour with Hilton, in a way it’s not with Marriott Titanium. To be honest it was a place to sleep, eat breakfast, and leave luggage before flight. Will stay again.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn. Was going to stay at the Conrad but changed my mind at last minute.
Never stayed at the Conrad, so I wouldn’t say I regretted the decision as such, but I certainly would try there next time. The HGI was a decent location though and could offer decent value.
