Heading to Berlin on Friday 20th May; got a gig planned and my mate has some museums he’s fancying already. I thought I would ask for any recommendations from the forums, for anything, especially food and drink. Thanks in advance.

I used to half-live there, if you’re after schnitzel, then: https://www.schnitzelei.de/.

If you want something different then the restaurant on top of the Reichstag is very cool, especially for breakfast: https://www.feinkost-kaefer.de/berlin

The KaDeWe food court is also a fun experience.

I came back on Monday from a long weekend and I got the Berlin Museum Pass – €29 for a 3 day pass that gets you free admission to 30 museums including the Museum Island ones and others such as the newly renovated National Gallery.

Whilst not on the museum pass the DDR/GDR museum is quite entertaining and the Stasi Museum is very informative.

As always check that the pass covers the museums you want to visit against individual admission charges to check you’d get value from it.

Many museums have lifted the requirement to have a booked time slot but may still require you to have booked to visit in a particular day.

To visit the Reichstag Dome you need a pre booked time slot but it is free.

I’d do a morning walking tour, can vouch for quality on both Original Berlin Walks and definitely Insider Tours. The guides will also offer great local knowledge on anything, clubs, eating. Sort of depends on your age and interests but these are very good too, https://www.berliner-unterwelten.de/en/index.html. Definitely a vote for the Reichstag, but as above you need to book a timeslot. I’d suggest Potsdam too, but with only a weekend that’s one for another time.

I should add that a booking at the Reichstag restaurant means you don’t need to book a ticket to access the dome.

Thanks everyone. Lots of great ideas. I think a follow up visit will become necessary.

Enjoy some asparagus while you’re there. It’s a safe-feeling city to cycle around, and you’ll often see more getting about that way (I think there’s now more than one city bike scheme there).

If you want a bike for the day renting from the hotel is a much better deal. In terms of hop on hop off service you can’t beat the e-scooter rentals. There’s a few different companies and assuming you have phone and data the process is simple.

Reminds me also of Fat Bike tours near the base of the TV tour. Recommend them too.

If markets are your thing I remember an excellent one on Sunday.
