@Jon re trustworthiness of financial institutions, shouldn’t that be a two way street? Providers ought to be able to rely on cardholders not being totally expedient and expect them to do the “right thing” rather than exploiting them.

I don’t know you, I don’t know who you are, and I don’t know what your agenda is here, but your posts are tedious. Give it a rest mate.

Considering the time and effort and obvious knowledge JDB puts into their posts this is very unfair. Yes, it can be viewed that (s)he nails his/her colours to the mast but it is surely a very net positive poster on this forum. So thanks JDB!

Thanks @timrogers – impressive (as ever) stuff 🙂

Separate question for the folks here… how long is it till ‘this years’ offer usually appears so it can be added to my Plat card please? 🙂

Any ideas / thoughts / previous experience?

    Thanks

It just rolls over, you don’t need to add it again. Spent mine and been refunded already.

I lived in welly for 4 years and think feb is the absolute best time to visit.

Incidentally, if you have amex plat – some of the welly restaraunts may well sell a gift voucher over the phone if you wanted to use your 2023 overseas credit.

in reply to: Ibiza family friendly hotel
    _aDifferentSimon_

Look no further than Portinax, its far up north, quiet but still retains the Ibiza atmosphere, its about 40min-60min cab ride from airport but some of the big hotels offer shuttles. There are lots of outstanding restaurants and four amazing beaches with soft sand and crystal clear, calm water. I strongly recommend: https://www.laciguenya.com/en. Ultra family friendly. Beware though, this area is far away from the hustle of San Antonio and Ibiza Town. They are still commutable if you want a big day out though. Its one of my favourite places on earth, I cant recommend it enough. Pictures don’t do it justice.

Thanks for the ideas both. Sadly, that particular hotel shuts the week before – I guess the weather isn’t likely to be that good – I think I’ve been hoowinked by the unusual heatwave this october!

in reply to: Onefinestay £1000 spend – cost £300?
    _aDifferentSimon_

It’s a stay by date according the T&Cs. How does amex know that? Is it like an airline where a fair bit of info is passed to amex? Or can I assume if I’m billed by 31/3 I’ll be OK?

    _aDifferentSimon_

    A belated thank you.
I submitted mine via the website, after 10 days I emailed a chaser and then the match happened the next day.
    Just flew lin-cdg.
    Quite happy with the service.
With a head office in Milan I can see me doing ba out and ita back until the status runs out!

in reply to: Virgin redemptions using a 2-4-1 voucher – how?
    _aDifferentSimon_

Thanks PaulB. I’ll sit down with a cup of coffee and get on the phone then! It’s a shame that you can’t “see” the voucher, and its expiry date, online and use it online.
BA’s system is much better in this regard.

The Virgin Red app shows the exact date the voucher was earned. Two years from then…

Unless the vouch was earned in 2019- early 21. In which case there was a 1-2 year extension.

From the list of the London restaurants, what would you say would be the best high rise/rooftop one? I have heard mixed opinions around Aqua Shard. Thanks!

Coq d’Argent is a solid D&D option. I like their “apple” pudding too.

Charging 20 for this sounds like miss selling. I would have thought they would have to get customers to sign something so clear saying that they understand they will get not a lot for their 240 / year.
I’ve had it for a few years. Doesn’t seem to offer anything significant over a “free” account (anymore). It certainly no competition to paid accounts like Nationswide’s Flexplus.

    _aDifferentSimon_

yes you are correct the fee was for the creation payment (mcc 6012). The ATM (mcc 8999) on the same day was fine.

I ordered some salt tablets for my water softener from simplysalt.co.uk and got a shop small notification! Didn’t expect that. They deliver to SW London.

@xcalc – weird – alex’s posts two above yours says a rev payment did attract fees. My payment to ihg on the 12th has no fees so far.

As an aside, I got turned away from the the gatwick plaza premium and No1 during a Saturday in half term so if travelling at (super) peak time I would book if at all possible.

On one of the resent Qatar with avios articles Rob made the comment about return travel to Auckland.
    “Business is 180k + £565 from London or 180k + €393 from Dublin.”
I’m guessing one way would be half of the points but probably pretty much the same tax.

As stated above of you need a cash single for the return that sounds expensive way of doing things. A platinum application and a couple of referrals could give you another >100k if elligable.

I lived in Welly for 5 years sometime ago. Loads of cheap flights between Auckland and the capital. Does grabaseat still exist?

Confirming what others have said. my Rev top-up incurred fee on the 16th March (the one on the 11th didn’t).
So long and thanks for all the fish.

As an update to this, I finally got around to calling. Over the phone they will happily exchange the cancelled flights to any date currently available (to end of Feb ’23 at the moment). I felt a (very small) pang of guilt swapping my Bristol – Bordeaux flights for Gatwick -Grenoble in Feb half term next year…

in reply to: Where do I find my credit card vouchers expiry?
    _aDifferentSimon_

In case it helps you approximate…

    for me
sep 21 issued voucher has the standard 2 years (expires sep 23)

Feb 21 issued has a one year extension to feb 24

June 19 has a two year extension (!) to June 23.
