On past visits, the easiest way to get a taxi was just walking up to the taxi queue at the airport – very well organised, and took a minute or two to get in a cab. Not been since travel demand picked up post-covid, though

I’ve found taxi from the airport quick and easy, though I gather the metro links are also decent. You could also look at each buying a 10 journey metro ticket for getting around the city.

Not sure about tapas bars near there, but Chocolateria San Gines does amazing churros and has outdoor seating. Bar La Campana has no outdoor seating but you can get a sandwich and take it to the square – calamari sandwiches are excellent.

Thanks for posting. I got this too. Am I missing any good ways to get value from this? It effectively lets you buy points for your stay at an ok rate, but one that’s slightly dearer than some of IHG’s periodic points sales.

Absolutely – breakfast or cocktails is a better choice than points. It’s just I had a 1 night stay booked and I misread this as free breakfast and drinks!

As Diamond, do you have to choose between free breakfast or drink vouchers? In some hotels, free cocktails might be a better option than breakfast…

That’s helpful to know. Must be costing the hotel a fortune if they’re closed for the Festival and New Year’s Eve!

Did you accept the rebooking or decide to stay elsewhere?

I did have to cancel 🙁 Points were instantly refunded, at least

Enjoy some asparagus while you’re there. It’s a safe-feeling city to cycle around, and you’ll often see more getting about that way (I think there’s now more than one city bike scheme there).

I’ve stayed at the Voco and Blythswood Square. Good recognition of Spire at the Grand Central (always been upgraded). The room service breakfast is excellent at the Grand Central and the bar is impressive looking (prices are surprisingly reasonable, though range of drinks could be better). The rooms I’ve been upgraded to at Grand Central are big, albeit slightly inefficient use of space in some. I like the location – very central and lively, and near good places to eat and drink. It does get rowdy around the hotel at the weekends, but never had a noisy room.

I’m back in Glasgow soon, and booked for the Grand Central. I like the pool at the Kimpton, but it’s hard to justify the much higher cost.

Thanks! Town Hall could be a good shout. If I tweak my dates I can get it for just under 25k MRs. Even the standard rooms are good?

Thanks – the location of the Hart would be great. Over 180k points for a night, though 🙁

I’ll think about the options. Dynamic pricing is not my friend this summer!

Thanks for the replies! Dynamic pricing makes other chains fairly pricey on my dates (the Marriott does look best value, but just under 40k/night so a similar number of MRs to the Radissons).

The Park Plaza looks nice. Family rooms are 110 points a night, so a bit steep, but normal rooms look a fair size 🙂

If I give up on the public transport links to Dalston and just assume I’ll be splashing out on a few £20 uber/cab rides, where would you opt for then? Its tempting to try the May Fair, Holmes, or one of the Edwardian hotels – which seem good value in terms of points vs cash price – but would somewhere like the Park Plaza be more practical?

Thanks for all the suggestions – will shop around for apartments. Airbnb is still a good bet in these areas?

Thanks – good point! We don’t drive, but Seville might be somewhere fun and easily accessible. Not sure what Granada or Malaga would be like at that time of year

Thanks for the suggestions, and sorry to be slow replying – family stuff has been keeping me busy, and a summer trip likely won’t be an option now 🙁 We likely will be able to do a month away in October, though 🙂 Would suggestions change for that type of year (apart from air-conditioning not being needed then, ofc)?

We stayed at Hotel Podewils a few years back. Old-fashioned/antique luxury feel, and good service/location. Not as service intensive/luxe as one of the big international 5* hotels, but was also much cheaper than that type of hotel at the time. Would go back!

Don’t remember the hotel bar, but there was plenty nearby

Thanks! I’ll be annoyed if I have to cancel my holiday because of omicron, but losing the voucher would add insult to injury!
