Yes, I am aware there is a dearth of chain properties in the Lakes. I am planning to do a B&B there.
Thanks for the tip on Indigo Durham. Will check them out. Cheers.18th June 2024 at 14:48 in reply to: Amex Offers at IHG, Marriott & Hilton PropertiesBella Ciao 25 posts
Thanks @NorthernLass. I am heading towards York, Windermere, Highlands, Isle of Skye, Edinburgh & Newcastle.

Btw I found out pooling only works for miles earned after creating the pool. I am not sure if they changed this, but it was like that about a year ago. Any existing miles don’t count.
This is very much true. Miles are only pooled after creation of the household account. Found out about it last month after transferring miles from Amex and tried to book an award ticket, only to find out that that I can’t combine them with existing miles.

You need Something like this:
It may be not a big deal for a hair dryer but we had a similar issue when ours was an infant and we felt like we needed to take our bottle steriliser with us to the US. And a drama ensued…
500W Voltage Transformer, 220/240 Volts to 110/120V Step Up Step Down Voltage Converter, UK to US & US to UK https://amzn.eu/d/fjZb1zg
Thank you everyone for your responses. We saw something like this in the Best Buy and decided it’s not worth the palaver. So the OH ended up using the hairdryer our hotel supplied, although she is disappointed at not using her expensive Dyson curler.

Hello @NorthernLass – We have universal plugs which convert UK plugs to any form of international plugs including the US. The issue is that the Dyson still wouldn’t turn on possibly due to voltage difference. We have 240v back home but in the US they have 110v.

The credit just posted to my account 6 days after the transaction.
Thank you. I am off to booking a flight ticket to get the Amex cash back.

@AET Did you receive the £100 credit for the flight tickets in the end?

Thanks Andrew. Clearly, I am not a regular Harrods shopper. How do I access the remote personal shopping service please.
I was hoping to make a purchase next time I am in London, but if it can skip me a trip to Harrods I would be delighted.
Thanks.14th June 2023 at 20:05 in reply to: Using Amex / Harrods offer without going instoreBella Ciao 25 posts
I’ve used the World Pay link from personal shopping and wasn’t sure if it would trigger but it did, got the “used offer” email and the credit.
Thanks Andrew, yes to confirm I also received the ‘Offer Used’ email almost immediately after paying via WorldPay. Good to know that is an option as ‘instore’ purchase.
I assume this WorldPay link was presented when you tried to make a purchase online. Is that right?
14th June 2023 at 20:04 in reply to: Post your American Express Platinum retention offers here!Bella Ciao 25 posts
I have had a personal Platinum card since 2021 and have been offered only one retention bonus of 35k sometime in early 2022, which was for card membership year 2021-22.
However, for card membership year 2022-23, I have not been offered a retention bonus. I have tried 2-3 times over the past one year, but was always offered a downgrade to Gold each time. I would like to believe I am a fairly decent spender on my Platinum card which is my main Amex card as my monthly Amex bill is usually £2-3k. I have also made some big ticket purchases on my Platinum last year like buying a car and a cash business class ticket to Australia over Christmas.
I understand the retention bonus is not a norm but rather an incentive to help you keep the card. My annual fee is coming up next month, and was really hoping for a retention bonus. With all the posts on this thread about retention bonuses, I was hoping to get one too, but alas no luck here! Is there a reason why I am not being offered a retention bonus for this membership year? If not, I would rather suck up and pay the fee for next year.

I am getting a quote of USD 3,916 per person for Polaris. 🙁

Going EDI to Newark on United tomorrow. Booked economy at £583 return less £250 Amex. Just checked in online and offered Polaris Business class upgrade for $599 or £482. Took their hand off at that price.
AlanCCongratulations! That’s a great success. Enjoy Polaris.
Thanks for the tip. I will try my luck.

Did no one else get the amazing £3 off for spending £50 at Esso?
Yep. Seeing as it’s about 6-7p a litre more than the local shell garage (where I get a 3% discount on top) there’s literally no point for me.
How do you get the 3% discount at Shell please?

I also got 8k, got the other 2k after calling and reading out the text on the screenshot.
Does anyone has a similar screenshot for the January promo? Applied for the Nectar credit card in January but received 8k Nectar points instead of 10k.
Thanks in advance. Here is the January screenshot: https://ibb.co/Y8QPkb0
I also have 8k instead of 10k.
Nectar said call Sainsburys bank.
Sainsburys bank argued that a 10k offer only ever exists in store, not online, and after a while said I had to call back in May when the +60d from offer period completes. We agreed that we both knew it was not going to post between now and May, and I hung up.
Will call again in may, then make a complaint.Thank you very much for this. This is going to help me in my complaint.
I got the same BS about the store offer, but when I asked why did they advertise it on their website they had no comeback. Is there a way to raise a complaint online because I have found Sainsbury Bank customer service agents to be ignorant. Don’t want to argue with them again and waste my time. I would rather raise a complaint online.
