I recently booked premium economy from LHR to MIA in cash with small avios contribution to reduce the cost. Then afterwards managed to upgrade both legs with avios to club. No problems at all

    HFP hive mind query:

Anyone in the know about how the Company is accounting for it? We’ve been told that the company does not want the lease liability on their balance sheet under new accounting standards, supposedly this is still the case even though it’s salary sacrifice?

I think the company can be convinced if the above isn’t the case, but I don’t think they can be bothered to research it, so if anyone knows about these things then pointers would be well received!

With Tusker they own the car and lease it to your as well as arranging all of the insurance etc. They invoice your employer each month and then your employer deducts it from your pay each month before tax and NI is taken off. So the higher tax band you are in the more you save.

If you look on the Tusker website it should give you all the info. They’re happy to do 1 or 2 cars with a company too from what I remember.

Will the company be buying it or lease? A lot of companies are now doing electric car lease schemes which can be done as salary sacrifice and save you quite a bit in tax potentially. We use Tusker at my company and it’s and all in price, including insurance, road tax, servicing etc.

If you can swap the car for an allowance and use a salary sacrifice scheme it may work out more beneficial?

My wife was in a similar position a couple of years ago, being slightly short of gold. There are sometimes upgrade offers that pop up in manage my booking, plus at 24 hours before the flight you often get upgrade offers too. If not you can always ask at the airport, but they tend to be a little more expensive.

Thanks all. I’ll certainly be making refundable hotel bookings and hopefully if they do cancel I can get a reroute to one of the other Croatian destinations anyway.

Thanks Meta, I’ll take a look at both of those options too. Yes, prices seem very cheap at the moment! I only booked to go there as we have 5 companion vouchers to use up and fancied doing a T3 lounge crawl, it seems like a nice cheap weekend away potentially.

Thanks, I was just looking at the canopy and was starting to think that it might be a better option!

I applied last week and had the email on Sunday confirming new status, so less than a week.

I have £10 credit for a £50 spend at Donald Russell on my Platinum and £10 credit for a £60 spend on my BAPP this morning. Does anyone know of any offer codes that might stack?

On my Platinum card there is a button at the top of the home screen that says ‘check spending power’, but not on my BAPP. I’m assuming that this is becuase it’s a charge card and essentially no limit.

You mention above that the large purchase is above your limit, so i assume it is not the platinum card. Therefore the purchase would need to be within your limit and you’ll need to call them and ask them if you can get an increase .
