Charles Martel, you really must meet JDB. I predict a kinship.

Get the 1000 back. You never know; under the ‘enhancements’ you might be able to spend it on food & beverages.

Agreed; what’s ideal is waiting till they’ve retrofitted the entire fleet. I’d stick with AA ex-LHR till then (if you must do OW direct)

Good grief; fat chance getting luggage onto the ONE train per hour running from Manchester to London. I’d tell them where to stuff that offer and await my taxi.

How long are you due in Canada relative to the length of the entire trip? For 2022, I feel I’d sit out Canada and wait for sanity to take hold there again. Justin has been taken hold of by the same holy spirit that inspired St Jacinda, Our Lady of Lockdown Sorrows, at her zenith.

Yes I was under that impression too. Didn’t they announce that in an IAG investor call? Very poor form. It’s night and day the difference in product. I’ll continue to steer clear till they’ve sorted themselves out. United are another one engaged in this; fake Polaris regularly replacing true Polaris on their DUB-EWR route with no automated alert to warn those with seats selected already. Despite flaunting their ‘class-leading’ Polaris out of DUB.

in reply to: American Airlines miles – how to earn them?
    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

That’s a lot for one-way. You can almost get a return cash flight for that on some airlines. It is a really poor deal. I’d use Avios instead if you really wanted to try a new airline. They both pull from same inventory.

I think they mean OW as OneWorld, not one way. But agree, if a one way that’s a bad price. But then one is always gouged on one ways.

They subcontract in Manchester so it’s not the typical AL cars/drivers but it doew generally mean I can pre-book an airport run for less than £25. I have no idea how to tip in AL app though, is it possible?

BookAAHotels. Points earned as elite qualifying.

Which card/s would you want to put the spend on? Amex doesn’t work with anything really apart from Billhop and then you’ve got the fee and need to be paying an established business. Revolut has more options for Visa/MC but each card has its own rules about charges etc.

Austrian 777 business class looks like Brussels and Aer Lingus. It’s fine; forward facing and ideally you’d avoid a duo seat.

Are you travelling solo or with someone? If with someone then the LH lack of personal space isn’t critical to you. So I would not add on an extra leg unnecessarily.

Also we may see difficulty generally at HKG for some time to come. Based on zero covid approach, or other. For me, I will no longer transit or travel to HKG on account of the national security law. And for work purposes I’d never be routed via HKG for same reason.

VIE is not my favourite European airport. It frustratingly has security checks per gate, so it’s very hard to time one’s arrival at the boarding gate having left the lounge.

in reply to: Emirates Business to First Skywards miles upgrades
    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

Thanks Blair. What is usually the order in which they would allocate the upgrade to auto-upgraders? Highest Loyalty status down over?

I’m not quite sure. I suspect so as my auto-upgrade for 39,000 miles has been in place for a fortnight and in that time 3 F seats have been allocated. I sincerely doubt they were cash fares with MAN as the origin point.

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade. Oozes class. And incredibly cheap for food by LHW standards.

You may see availability a fortnight out, but ex-LHR it’ll be immediately snapped up by auto-upgraders. Emirates will allow upgrades down to the final available seat, so may be worth tracking empty seats in advance of checkin. You can pay with points to upgrade at checkin, at the gate and on board. Amex MR transfer instantly fyi

    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

Thai 777 is pretty much the same seat as on the old Etihads (prior to business studio). So, a bit rudimentary in its finishes but still fine as a 1-2-1 proposition. Despite some amazing prices ex-UK to Dubai, I just don’t ever see myself parting with cash or points for LH’s abysmal long haul cabin.

    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

Some people are speculating the dynamic pricing won’t kick in till after 23 March when this promo ends. I’d ideally use my remaining Bonvoy on a March 2023 redemption but doubt I can wait that long. Currently have them assigned to a less desirable (timing-wise) earlier booking

You should be able to price up once logged into a Skywards account. And there’ll be plenty of availability into the future for you to check. My last 2 booking MAN-DXB were 90,000 miles and £352 TFCs return.

I can price up a classic rewards flight. But can’t price up the cost of an upgrade from econ because it doesn’t show taxes ?

Aha I misunderstood your query. I can’t help; I only ever do J to F points upgrade and there’s no additional taxes

    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

Not really, no, unless you rent from one of those big corporate renting companies that might accept card.

To pay bank transfers by card you can use Billhop but it charges a fee: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/03/27/how-does-billhop-work/

Yep, this. Thankfully my agent has a web portal that accepts debit card payments so Curve all the way.

Not hard to find, when I go to ATlanta I use
    Crowne Plaza
    Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia and
    Crowne Plaza
    Atlanta NE – Norcross

Both great properties – random day this month, 27/28th they are 17k and 18k respectively, and never more than mid-low 20s

All in I mean with taxes etc. No breakfast of course don’t be silly it’s IHG !

Mmm ok, well if these hotels work for you, you seem to have found your rich seam. They’re hardly the first hotels an average tourist would turn to though. The IC Chicago has bizarrely jumped to 813GBP per night next winter, with a points price similarly inflated. This had previously been dependably 35-40,000
