ChrisC You refer to the terms which state “up to 6 weeks”. My question was looking for a more practical real world response of what that might mean in reality. There is also no help in answer to when are the points counted if earned before the earning threshold increases but not awarded until some time after.

If, with the bonus, you reached an elite threshold but without bonus you did not reach it; but said bonus arrived after the start date for the new tiers – then I think you’d be into the territory of making an appeal to IHG to recognise you would have got there before the cutoff date had the bonus been paid promptly. I got nowhere with AA in 2018/18 when a set of Qatar flights logged after 31 Dec.

A native has always told me to stay at the Conrad so I would stick with where you are.

“20k all in”? All in what? Breakfast not included, nor is it an elite benefit (won’t hold my breath for Diamond!). Amenity fee not included; that’s added on to award bookings.

Despite being in Dublin, they can’t even manage to serve fresh Irish soda bread. Instead it’s individually wrapped slices in plastic that taste like they were baked 3 days previously and are sand dry. However, there is a shower and for that alone it’s been worth a PP visit when connecting while Aer Lingus have had their lounge open only intermittently and showers closed entirely. For info, T2 lounges are also accessible to you – you just need to walk left after T1 security instead of walking right towards T1 shopping. The DAA’s premium East Lounge is pay to enter and more akin to the 1903 lounges in MAN.

in reply to: How to add FHR booking into Hilton Honors
    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

It does ask but in my experience it doesn’t actually get passed on to your booking

You can call Amex call centre and they will get it added or as Rob says contact the hotel.

Best to call the hotel and sort it out well before arrival. I’ve had long and drawn out palaver trying to get Hilton to retroactively credit me when the number didn’t carry across to the booking.

I’m a bit innocent – do these pets actually exist beyond for points bonus purposes?

Kilmainham makes no sense to me when you’re just visiting the city for a few days. It’s not a salubrious area and you pass through some right dodgy places to get to the historic/retail/hospitality core. Just suck up the cost and go with Hilton or Conrad. I stayed at Hilton on 5 for 4 for 20,000 points per night in 2020. Times have changed since then I know. It’s very convenient though as the Luas tram stops outside it along the Green Line (much nicer/safer aread than the Red Line) so you can be dropped off right on-street in the core if you want, or head out southbound through the nicer suburbs. Huge generalisation but when it comes to the Greater Dublin Area you want to be in the south east quadrant of it.

My experience is that it counts for priority if rebooking is required due to cancellations/missed connections.

“ The Concourse C Admirals Club will continue to serve members, qualifying elite customers and those traveling on eligible itineraries.” – does this mean OneWorld Sapphires don’t get to use the Flagship Lounge? One to keep an eye on.

“American’s Flagship Lounge and Concourse B Admirals Club will be repurposed into a contiguous lounge for eligible business class customers.” – hmmm……

My ‘exclusively for you’ promo has dropped out of my promotions – enrolled in December so could be a new year IT refresh. I’m following up to get it reinstated but worth double checking you are still enrolled before any stays.

Same with me; my double weekend night points promo has disappeared. Frankly double elite nights is more helpful to me considering we can’t rule out a return to lockdowns (here or abroad) next time politicians sh1t their pants.

It’s not worth the hassle at present. Even for work purposes, some colleagues always end up getting left outside cos the background steps weren’t as expected (despite everyone doing the same thing).

DT has a crap breakfast. Just utterly crap. Cheap juice, bread that was yesterday’s bake, hot drinks never hot on first attempt, and the breakfast ‘restaurant’ feels very cramped with small tables stacked closely together like a department store café.

I lucked out yesterday with a LX time change and now have 90 mins connection at ZRH. Nearly sufficient to lounge it.

Get a luggage tracker and also ask at the boarding gate if they can confirm your bags have been loaded. You will make it in 55mins, but bags don’t always.

in reply to: Booking IHG hotels with points in NYC
    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

Hi Chris, I wrote the following a few days ago but I think the S word got the comment blocked:

“Good evening from the Intercontinental Times Square, where the following data points and metrics may be of interest:
    Welcome amenities = zero
Number of slippers provided = zero
Number of robes supplied = zero
Tea making facilities presented = zero
Sh!ts given by front of house = zero
Amount per night charged to my card = just over £700

    A disappointing experience thus far.
The icing on the cake was the attempt to charge me for some water that was left on a table in the room (not in the minibar). No warning or heads-up to suggest this was not complimentary. Who the hell charges £700 a night for a base level room and then argues with the customer over a plastic bottle of water?
Granted the poor / cold customer service attitude from front desk staff is normal for New York, but the rest of it is quite surprising
This is my first stay at an IC, so have no idea if this one is a bad example, or if it’s “just a New York thing”, or if I’m unlucky, or maybe I’ve had the wrong idea in my head (too high expectations) about the brand.
What I do know is that I’ve had a better time at some crowne plaza properties. The nearby Kimpton was far better in my opinion (and charges a lot less too).

On a positive note, all ten hangers are stealable and the number of sheets required per wipe is only two, but maybe three depending on what you ate the night before.”

Water is an Ambassador benefit anyway? If not the bottles left on the table then which water? Were they going to fill a carafe from the bathroom tap and give that to you? So glad I plumped for the Barclay (and its relatively long lead in time for cancellations) over the IC Times Square.

Amb status shows up pretty much as soon as you buy.

Yes and yes. Certs are electronic and show in your account online.

Gosh this has taken an age. At one stage I am pretty sure Hyatt had branding up there in that building site part of MAN. A well maintained HI, connected via internal footbridge, will suit me better than the overpriced Radisson. Outside of winter I’m quite happy with the existing Crowne Plaza.

in reply to: Redeeming Virgin Points for connecting KLM flights
    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

I find Virgin award bookings utterly mad on the website. I just resort to waiting for them to sort me on Whatsapp.

Re your connection, KLM have been known to play ball and through check luggage on self-connections. But 55 mins at AMS is crazy. The SIN widebody will be boarding while you’re still taxiing to a likely remote stand coming from ABZ. If you did make it, your luggage may not. And AMS security staff have a weird habit of sensing who is in most of a rush and pulling you aside for random security screening of transfer passengers.

in reply to: Do IHG reward nights include breakfast?
    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

    Hey All!

Does anybody know if the hotels in the UAE, specifically the Crowne Plaza at Yas Island (Abu Dhabi) include breakfast for reward night guests?

    Thanks in advance!

I’ve got a booking for that very hotel this Feb.
I booked with points and was given an upgrade to a suite.
    They won’t provide lounge access.
However, I successfully negotiated a 50% reduction in the breakfast charge.
Overall, I’m happy with the outcome: upgrade to a suite plus 2 for the price of 1 breakfast for a mere 16k points per night.

Aston needs to stop taking holidays at the same time and place as me. I am also Dubai in Feb. Some IHG hotels do offer breakfast with reward nights/points bookings but the list is small and towards the upper tier.

    Blair Waldorf Salad 1,084 posts

Own goal … it used to be a major driver towards Hilton for me; but when sorting upcoming trip I didn’t even consider them for any cash bookings.

This! Hilton had me nailed in, as the free cooked breakfast couldn’t be matched by others. Now they’re just in the mix with everyone else and no longer my “go to” in North America.

Same here; minimal interest in Hilton in US. To add insult to injury the massive Hilton New York on 6th Avenue simply shut up shop on food offerings entirely for a long time.
