Business Platinum customer for just over 2 years. Spend around £600k pa. Never tried to cancel before. Asked to cancel on live chat and currently no retention offers available so was fine seeing me go. Held off cancelling for now.

I have a similar spend profile on my business plat. Was just offered £55 statement credit as a retention offer. This is now the second year that I’ve had this rather meagre offer, although it is better than nothing.

    Nothing is stopping you.

Except what do you do if there are no seats available on the flight you want for you to rebook yourself into?

And yes that has happened to me.

Sorry to hear about that! Do you know if its possible to immediately change the flight after purchasing the ticket or is there an amount of time I need to wait first?

Sadly I think maybe the terms have changed on this since Robs (excellent…!) article a couple of months back… I went on live chat and confirmed a couple of things:

“It doesn’t seem clear from the t&cs – is cancellation travel insurance only provided for travel that was paid on the american express card? I have pre-booked travel now for example that obviously will not have been paid for on the card as I haven’t applied yet – will that be covered? What about new trips if the travel agent does not take American Express – am I covered?”

    They advised:

    “Well, that’s a good question.
As per the card terms, you will only be covered for travel insurance for the trips or holidays that were booked using the Amex card.
If you have booked a trip now, since you did not use the Business card for payment, that trip will not be covered.
For the future bookings, if you use the Amex business card for the payment for that booking, then only you will get the travel insurance benefits.”

They definitely gave you the incorrect info. I have both a personal gold card which I use for the 2x points on airlines as well as the business platinum card. I use the gold card to book all my flights and I’ve dealt with the insurance on several occasions and never had an issue paying with a different card.

I’d be surprised if there was any difference in availability between Delta and Virgin. Not sure if Flying Blue has Saudia online but always worth checking with a third party too. If FB and Delta both have it then you’re simply dealing with bad Virgin agents.

Thanks Rob. Seems like Flying Blue also has availability, albeit only 1 vs 4 I can see on Delta. I’ll try again and see if getting a different Virgin agent makes a difference.

Was offered 20k via chat today to keep the card. Almost exactly 1 year ago since I received my last 20k retention offer.

@bloxorus agree about the CoT choice – I do recall they had a 100,000 avios sign up at one time.

With regard to Amex MR reaching millions, how so? I’m finding acceptance of Amex in b2b somewhat limited…hence looking at CoT.

Ah, shame the sign up bonus is so low now then…

Regarding my Amex, I am in a fairly unique situation where due to the nature of the business my supplier accepts Amex. I also spend a fair amount on ads with Google / Facebook.

I think you’re largely correct. I signed up to the paid version because the sign up bonus was bigger than the fee, but downgraded after a year.

The advantage is that you have to pay corporation tax in the cashback but the avios are personal and tax free, so you would gain there. I think you’d need to be spending a lot of money on the card to make it worthwhile.

    Understood, thanks!

Was just offered £55 statement credit via chat on my business platinum card. Pretty abysmal considering my annual spend on this card is c. £500k but its better than nothing I guess.
