Got mine today! Seemed to top up fine through Curve linked to my Amazon NewDay Platinum Mastercard. Interestingly NS&I also accept it for making payments into Premium Bonds…

Don’t think you can downgrade anymore, as Platinum is a charge card and Gold is now a credit card. You can always apply for the gold or the basic MR card, then cancel the platinum.

Or just transfer out the points and cancel outright.

When I downgraded, I was actually downgraded to the rarely talked about Gold charge card.

No clawback rule, I did exactly this when I signed up for the Platinum in early March 2020 (spectacular timing). Hit the spend target in about 6 weeks, got the points (think they appeared in my account pretty quickly after hitting the target, waited a few days at the most), then immediately downgraded to Gold. No clawback and you get to keep the points.

If someone takes out the Platinum card (£50/month fee) and spends the required £6k (for the bonus points) in the first month rather than over six months, at what point could they downgrade to a Gold card and keep the points ?
I presume after the points have posted (roughly how long does that take ?) OR is there a clawback rule if you don’t hold it for x amount of time ?
    Cheers.

Totally fine to cancel as soon as you get the points. I did this in 2020 as I took the Platinum card out right at the beginning of March… managed to hit the spend target in ~6 weeks though and the welcome bonus points posted within a few days of me hitting my spend target I think. I then downgraded to Gold over live chat. There is no clawback rule.

Agreed. The forum is definitely still in its early days and do remember Rob saying something about how it was intentionally very basic in its first form to see if there was interest etc. Now that it seems to be finding its feet it would be great to have some more powerful search functionality, as well as things like email notifications if someone replies to a thread you’re interested etc.

+1, it’s always felt odd to me that a card that is focused on a travel-heavy lifestyle penalises you for actually using it abroad versus the numerous other debit and credit cards that don’t charge FX fees.

There is this article which seems to cover a similar situation:

…But I’m not particularly hopeful that I will win this one.

Was waiting 2-3 weeks for a number of LNER cashback offers to come through – and they all suddenly appeared in a flurry yesterday.

I’ve always found their online COVID documentation portal to be flaky at best. Every time I’ve used it it’s not accepted my documentation or I’ve not been able to upload, so I end up just checking in at the airport and getting a paper boarding pass.

Stayed at the Hilton Dublin on points in January and got an upgrade. Nice view of the canal although the single-glazed windows let a lot of the sound in from the road…

I had an early flight so couldn’t try out breakfast but they did make me a hot chocolate at 4am when I checked out.

It’s rubbish; it’s aimed unashamedly at business travellers who have expense accounts with no oversight :D.

Ha, I did this once when my new employer paid for the travel & accommodation for my relocation. Just a way of getting something extra from that employer 😊

Got an upgrade to a King Executive Room at Hilton Edinburgh Carlton when we asked by email a couple of weeks in advance. This was in response to their “would you like to purchase chocolates & wine for your room for Valentine’s weekend” email, and since we agreed to purchase that, that may have helped convince them to do the upgrade… and it gave us access to the executive lounge here too.

    Hilton Gold via Amex Plat.

This is a great offer and I’m sad to say that I bought my Fully Jarvis desk a couple of months before Amex rolled out this offer.

I have the L-shaped desk and it is excellent. +1 for the programmable unit, also the caster wheels are useful for times I need to shift the desk around a bit.

As a top tip, I got 5% off my desk just for signing up to Fully’s newsletter and getting the promotional code they sent me. On a £1200 desk that ended up being a £60 discount!

I once had to chase a refund from Amazon to my Curve card and was told Curve staff had to manually link refunds to cards and it could take them weeks! Hopefully their systems have been improved now…

HMRC won’t see the cardholder’s name. Billhop pays HMRC by bank transfer.

Received a 50k MR retention offer for my Platinum card back in July 2021, my 1-year anniversary of holding the card. Just about enough to cover the annual fee. 😊

They said I was eligible as I hadn’t had any other bonus offers in the past year.

They also offered to split the payment across 12 months but I preferred to pay it in one go.
