Who else forgot to double dip Nectar power hour with 5% TCB? Kicking myself :’) but only made a £50 purchase anyway.

    Managed it… 12 bags of coffee beans…

Treble dip goes without saying: 1.5 Avios/£ obvs

OK… BA say it is in my account; presumably appears when appropriate in the booking process and not with the Amex vouchers

Hi – I completed the pre-devaluation conversion from Avios to Nectar last week – both the 50k and the weekly 25k – both are showing as having left BAEC but neither have yet appeared in my Nectar account – how long does it normally take?

10 days apparently – mine is at 11 (calendar) days and 80,000 appeared on Nectar this morning

Thought it was one lot of 50,000 allowed per month

Indeed, just tried to convert more – not allowed

Are there any cashback deals at UK train companies at the moment? I’ve used all my LNER offers on my Amex and Halifax Clarity cards, and Virgin ticketing doesn’t allow you to buy a season ticket. I’m at risk of having to pay full price for my season ticket for the first time in months! (note: have been accepted for the Barclaycard Avios Plus, but card not yet arrived in the post).

Mine took two days to arrive…

Took out Avios Plus CC a month ago – already had BC Premier AC for over a year.

Received an email today suggesting I should apply for the AVios Plus CC…

Not sure all their ducks are in a row yet, seeing I had to contact them about the £5 fee credit

Recently used Curve for everything in New York in front of the BC Avios. was fine, hotel pending charge refunded within a couple of days. Yes 0.5% charge at weekend but I wanted 1.5 Avios per £ not 1.5 Virgin Points. Have Metal (investor freebie…) so unlimited FX at 0% or 0.5%

Had more problems with Cunard on the way over on QM2: they charge daily for on board spend (claim they are pending – they aren’t), then the whole lot again at the end, so double charging, but I don’t think this is a Curve thing: it’s common for them (they claim hotels do it – hotels don’t)

Charges started reversing a full 2 weeks after the crossing

Question from me, I noticed a few people have booked a return online when using a 241. Ie booking the outbound and return as separate bookings and then phoning up to link the bookings. I did the same yest but when I called up I was told they need to submit a comms and it could take a week for the extra Avios to come back. I have no issue with this just wondering if anyone has had this approach as most people seem to get it sorted on the phone.

Did this for an open jaw (LHR>LIS, OPO>LHR) and was told on the phone no refund

I sorted it through Twitter DMs. Took a week or so, but was done

in reply to: Tips to hit Amex Platinum £6,000 spend target
    buchanan101

Thanks everyone, some excellent suggestions. Will definitely investigate council tax paid by card. Always felt nervous about hotel pre-book and cancel; once I’ve hit spend target and got the bonus paid to me, would the cancellation just put me into a possible negative points situation for a while ?

I’ve prebooked and cancelled hotels so many times over the last few years. (not to run up the spend in the short term, but because plans change)

Almost always Hotels.com, and they refund quickly

They gave me a £20k limit…yikes… double what I have anywhere else

Maybe because I have a Barclays Premier account

in reply to: Which account gets the £5 discount?
    buchanan101

I messaged Barclays through app chat and £5 credit was added to my credit card account within a couple of hours. Impressive

Should be on 2nd of month apparently

    yes, very useful thanks.

they need to fix that link at Amex

Wife recently took out the Platinum card but no sign of any offers of any kind on her online account or the app. Does it take a while for the offers to appear, or do I need to call?

Takes a while – online chat put the dining ones on for me, the Harvey Nicks one appeared in a week or so, but others take a long time

in reply to: Virgin Atlantic charging annual fee well before renewal
    buchanan101

Where are you looking for the voucher? All you get is a zero points entry on your points statement with a cryptic reference.

Yes I know but you do get an email notifying of the award. Not had that and there’s no zero entry visible on the Red app and the earnings table on my VS account on the web has been empty for a year despite me earning regularly.

No. No email, nor this year it appearing in Virgin Red statement. Nor on CC statements. Only place was on VA account statement.

in reply to: How long to wait before chasing BA for EU261 claim?
    buchanan101

Depends on whether you want to put some effort into chasing it up, or just want to sit back and wait. It’s more than 8 weeks, so you could go to CEDR straight away. You could send them a letter before action then go to MCOL in a couple of weeks. Or you could email/phone them and try to hurry them along, but that is unlikely to help.

The best course of action depends on what caused the cancellations, and on your preferences

    or write to seanldoyle@ba.com

worked for me, but that’s after they’d refused to pay my costs for re-routing.

I think mine was just about next day – but I did apply fairly early in the 60,000 bonus window

All seem to work fine for me – we will see if the 3,000 Avios are credited properly

in reply to: Changing from free BA Amex to free Amex Rewards
    buchanan101

If you want the Amex rewards card you will need to make a new application. This is because these two cards are not in the same card family – they use different currency: BA uses ‘Avios’ and Amex Rewards uses Membership rewards points.

You can keep both, you don’t have to close one to get the other.

Stick around, someone might provide you with a referral link for the free Amex that might get you something extra if you’re patient (not guaranteed).

Anyone who has an Amex card will get a referral bonus – and the recipient will also get a bonus.

I’d post mine, but I think Rob would rather you follow such links on this site as that’s part of his company’s income

    buchanan101

    Thank you @ChrisC

Is there any dedicated counter or can I go to any desk?
I believe for CW I can go to Zone H at LHR T5.

It’s just like checking in, so go to where you would go the next morning.

Thanks – might give it a try next May. Breakfast is not desperately important but with HH Gold it’ll be free.

    Not worried about wardrobe space

in reply to: Companion Voucher rules changes?
    buchanan101

Assuming nothing has changed in rates since the below article, Amex don’t want you to spend on the BA Amex. They likely make a loss on every pound you spend on it.

    https://www.headforpoints.com/2018/02/08/american-express-european-court-of-justice-interchange-fees/

It’s still going 4.5 years later though… (but the BAPP now has a £250 fee rather than £195 at that time)

in reply to: How close to £10,000 spend for voucher?
    buchanan101

All you can do is add up your spend from your statements.

Yes, done that and it’s over £10,000…just adding the totals, so it looks like the cut off must be mid the first statement!

in reply to: Virgin redemptions using a 2-4-1 voucher – how?
    buchanan101

Thanks PaulB. I’ll sit down with a cup of coffee and get on the phone then! It’s a shame that you can’t “see” the voucher, and its expiry date, online and use it online.
BA’s system is much better in this regard.

The Virgin Red app shows the exact date the voucher was earned. Two years from then…

in reply to: Prepaid Mastercard bonus – only 50 Avios?
    buchanan101

There is a bonus of 50 Avios for using it on Apple Pay – could this be it? This was credited to me today.

I haven’t used it on Apple Pay though…the transaction that took it over £500 credited Avios yesterday; bonus appeared overnight.

How did you know there was an Apple Pay bonus on offer?

Have to keep an eye on it – small fry though compared with the Amex Platinum I signed up for yesterday

The Apple Pay offer appeared in my notifications on the app earlier this week (I’ve had the card for over a fortnight and had already used it on Apple Pay) and the points credited today. I went over £500 spend earlier this week and haven’t had the welcome bonus yet.

I can now see the Apple Pay bonus offer – seems then that you get it even without using Apple Pay – just set it up
