I have the same dilemma as you, and own a few properties in NI so the return in Amex points for me would be pretty rewarding.
I’ve never found a way to use Amex to pay, but am fortunate enough to have the legacy Hilton Barclaycard Visa which goes some way to easing the NI Rates pain. The new Barclaycard Avios cards are Mastercard I believe, doesn’t help if you are trying to hit a bonus Amex spend, but if you don’t already have the Avios card it might be better than nothing. At least you get something back other than your bin emptied … (or not)!

It seems they didn’t count any of the nights during the double nights promo that they ran at the end of the year. That’s exactly what didn’t roll over for me.

    I’m not sure that’s right.
I did 27 nights in 2022, including 18 during the Double promo.
    27 + 18 comes to 45, 3 more than the 42 I needed to retain Diamond.
My updated account now reads Diamond, plus 3 nights stayed – so bang on.

You don’t say which number you called, but this is one I kept a record of, having used it before to transfer points – 020 3564 6335

    bungalow 178 posts

I do the searched first on one browser ( i use firefox as my default) and without logging in to the retailors account to get prices etc

I then switch to another browser – edge – (not tab) and log into the website, then click throught to the retailer then log in and then do the search to select what I want.

In the past I’ve found doing multiple searches to get options just causes problems.

^^ This ^^. Have been doing exactly the same for years 👍

You don’t say what status you have with Marriott, but for what it’s worth I stayed at Sheraton Doha last month as Platinum. I booked an entry level room for 5 nights (points 5for4), and whilst they didn’t upgrade me to a suite, I was given a room one category below a Junior Suite, resort/sea view side of the pyramid (best), lounge access, and an excellent full breakfast at the main buffet. I usually prefer a suite myself as the wife is a light sleeper and is prone to making coffee early in the morning, but this room was quite large, especially as the sitting/coffee area is down a few stairs “below” the main bedroom level with direct access to the balcony.
Quirky, but worked well for us. Personally I would be very happy to take the same room again and save my suite nights for somewhere else.

My HH app is showing 0 points transferred from HH Visa last month – has anyone else had this? They’ve been late before but never appeared as 0!

I haven’t had 0 points transferred but the points don’t get transferred now until around the 2nd of the following month apparently, and this has been true for me over the last 2 months.

    ^^ This ^^
My points transfer date has also moved, from 23rd/24th historically, to now 2nd of the following month. Last 2 months August and September.

Just a quick update for anyone expecting the imminent demise of the Hilton Barclaycard, my new card just arrived this morning… with a 07/27 expiry date!

One thing not yet mentioned is that card holders have been given enhanced bonus point promotions in recent years for paying with a Hilton credit card. 3x vs 2x points I think it was last time.

Am sure I must have held this card for around 10 years now and never heard of this, when and how did/does this happen?

It’s an extension of some of their regular global promotions. Here is the most recent one from last year
    https://www.hiltonhonors.com/en_US/2021-hh3-power-up-GB-2x/landing/

Ahh right, I rarely if ever use my Hilton card for hotel stays unless it’s in GBP, almost all of my stays are overseas and I’m not sure the extra point per $ is worth it to cover the exchange fees

If you just have the Hilton card in the booking, you can sometimes get the triple points even when paying by another means. But often when you ask the front desk to pay manually they insist on entering your card number into their computer, despite there being card readers they somehow can’t just bring up a charge and let you insert any card

    Now THAT is interesting.

Because most/all of my stays are abroad I don’t even have my Hilton card listed as payment in my HH account, default has always been curve (FX), but linked to HH Card.

    Food for thought, thank you…

Not a huge issue and it’s still out of season but be very interested to see if the lounge is ready.

You only pay “double” avios with Qatar when their standard avios seat allocation have gone, they will still sell you an avios seat, but at twice the price

Agree with your JBR observations, I’ve actually stayed at “The Walk” and can’t for the life of me understand how they can consistently get 70,000 points a night, rooms are large but extremely dated, and the lifts and lounge are awful. I guess like you I should really make a back-up reservation, but my next preferred choice (Waldorf aside) would be the Conrad, which is nowhere near the Palm!
I do have a couple of nights on Dubai arrival at the Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City, never stayed there before, but on doing some research I think a couple of nights is probably plenty!

And regards Waldorf Palm, were they to move us to there, would Diamond benefits still be applied, upgrade, breakfast? Plus no lounge access 🙁

Here’s hoping we won’t have to worry about it…

Oh dear, I wasnt aware of the £10k rule! I’ve already put £10k into an ISA in August, plus will have Amex to pay off soon, is there any way to know which of these transactions have eaten into my 10k allowance, or any way to track the fronted spend (assuming like me you just leave it switched on)

No, there is no way to track it unfortunately. Maybe contact Curve and see, but no trackable in the app. Surprised the app doesnt show it really, as they clearly track it at the back-end. I think they are busy bloating the app rather than put useful things into it.

Well what about this. How long does it take after a transaction over the 10k, for the 1.5% charge to hit your account? If it’s immediate, or a day or so, given I know I have already put £10k through my ISA, I could pay just £10 or £20 off my Amex bill now and see if it triggers?

I found myself asking the same question recently as I went over £10k spend and wasn’t charged anything. After £11k the fee appeared as part of the overall transaction. If you’ve been charged it, you’ll know about it immediately.

SO, after having put £10k Curve spend towards my ISA already this month, I tested a £100 payment yesterday to my Amex. Went from pending to cleared after about 20 minutes, no 1.5% fee, go figure…

in reply to: Al Bustan Palace (Muscat) – recommended?
    bungalow 178 posts

Am in Middle East in Oct/Nov, Qatar/Oman/UAE. I had booked 5 nights at the RC Al Bustan (5for4 points) and even emailed the hotel to see if I would get free breakfast as Bonvoy Platinum (they confirmed I would). However at almost 200,000 points, nowhere near anything walking distance (i believe hotel taxis are ridiculous), and no lounge, I decided to pull the plug on it and invest in the Grosvenor House Dubai instead. After some research I had planned to eat at “Frescos” in the Marina just a short walk north of the RC if that’s any use to you.

Also, the JW Marriott Marquis still appears to be closed after a bad flood in a storm (inland, so no beach).

W Muscat may be an option for you (if that’s your style), appears more to do about the place. After some deliberation I let that go as well, but also on the beach, and 50,000 points cheaper than Al Bustan for 5 nights.

I find all my fronted transactions get tagged as “Services” and I can keep track of the total in my money > insights > categories

If that’s the case then not so good, all my ISA and Amex payments are listed under the services tab, even a few Marriott points I purchased last month to make up a 5 for 4 stay 🙁

What allowance did you use up on metal if fronted wasnt on?

Manually toggle fronted – switch in on to clear AMEX balance onto Visa/Mastercard, then switch it off again.

I have had Curve Metal for about 3 years and have had fronted turned on ever since prompted to do so about a year ago, and just left it on.
I pay off my Amex and top up my ISA etc all the time, never had a problem until prompted that one time. Been working fine ever since.
Is there any particular reason I should keep turning it off?

    GROUNDHOG DAY

Further to delays in April and June my July Hilton points are AWOL now.

    What a crock.

Ditto my July points, but that’s the first delay I’ve had for about a year or so. However it certainly appears there are major issues somewhere, a concerning trend reading this thread, and very frustrating if you are trying to book a lot of Hilton hotel redemptions like I am at the minute.
