@nectarcollector thanks very much for responding, sorry for duplicate question, it came up with multiple error messages when I tried to create this originally so thought it hadn’t worked.
carousel 27 postsMorning all, sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere, when using the BC cabin upgrade voucher from premium to business, it only offers one fairly hefty avios deduction. When I use my 2-4-1 Amex Companion voucher I get the option of avios vs cash, does the BC voucher not have the same options? If this has already been discussed and there’s a link elsewhere if anyone can point me in the direction that would be great. I dont want to use 100k + avios as I’m just waiting to book my return SIN – LHR bus with my 2-4-1
carousel 27 posts@Blindman67 I had a similar issue with the Barclays Avios Upgrade Voucher after hitting the bonus limit. I’d signed up when the 100k bonus was in place but then we signed up the husband so we could get the upgrade voucher for him too. I didn’t ever have to select options but what has changed now is that you need to select your choice of upgrade voucher or 7000 avios in the app then your choice lands a few days later. Hope this helps but if not feel free to ignore. I spoke to so many people at Barclays on the chat & phone and not one member of staff could tell me this is what I needed to do.
17th January 2024 at 20:27 in reply to: 2 4 1 voucher flight and only one person now able to flycarousel 27 postsThanks for coming back so quickly, no flights available but she’s fine losing airmiles etc she’s just desperate to go as it’s to go onto a connecting cruise
carousel 27 posts@AJA & @ BJ I will continue working on this and possibly ask more questions, thanks so much again for your help
carousel 27 posts@meta indeed, thank you. This forum is fabulous and the advice everyone provides is beyond helpful
carousel 27 postsYep I agree with everyone’s view I should have researched more as I’d had a previous similar experience where I successfully got rebooked on Qatar business to Bangkok which was fabulous. I just panicked as I was due back at work and was worried with a whole plane of people being in the same position I grabbed at first option. My husband was stressing too so I’m just putting this down as a life lesson and in hindsight would have gone back to the hotel, researched and then called. We were out for our anniversary and it was a knee jerk reaction. I work in Finance and with Consumer Duty and all the other regs we work to I spend my whole life ensuring good client outcomes not relying on which clients know the rules we should adhere to and basing my service on that
carousel 27 posts@BJ to be honest I’d quite happily take this to their legal department. I look forward to their response
carousel 27 postsThanks all for your helpful responses, I agree £1000 is very high for a hotel, my alternative was to move to another hotel which, to be honest when I was also having to work from Tokyo (I had no annual leave left) and my husband be vulnerable was just too much. It was my birthday and our wedding anniversary trip hence we were staying in a lovely hotel in the first place. I actually only claimed for one meal each day, didn’t submit any other expenses incurred because as long as they covered our accommodation that would have done. We switched to a twin room too as there were no double rooms left. We also had to sit 6 rows apart on the flight as they messed up our booking and there were no other seats left. I carry two epi pens for my husband as he has a nut allergy, all this made it quite stressful. I know some on here will think all of these things are “first world problems” but my preference would have been getting on the original flight on Sunday and being seated next to my husband as we had originally booked. I did ask why the 4 separate people I spoke to on the phone didnt offer me the JAL flights that went on the Sunday and Monday and they seem to completely ignore that point. I will continue on and have pushed back again. I wouldnt have been in the situation if they’d actually given me a better re booking option. One positive is I was impressed how quickly they have been responding, I was expecting weeks and weeks delay but they came back within a few days
Also on the reroute, when I called from Tokyo and asked to get onto the JAL flight they said we’d already accepted the new flight, what I actually realised when we went to checkin online is that they hadn’t put my husbands executive number against the booking, when I added this on checkin it popped up with a message saying our flight had been cancelled and to accept the new one, so technically I felt we had actually accepted it.
carousel 27 postsHi Angelamc11, just out of curiosity have you submitted your claim yet. BA are saying they only cover “reasonable” hotel costs so will only cover £300 or the £1000 a night charge. We were already staying at the hotel so it’s as though we moved to an expensive hotel albeit our rate was cheaper purely based on it being an advance booking as opposed to last minute. Any help would be appreciated. I’ve pushed back to them
carousel 27 postsThanks JDB, sent it all through earlier today so fingers crossed
carousel 27 postsHi all, now we’re back, to claim the compensation under UK261 does that go with our claim for other expenses or would that need to be logged separately as a complaint? I should imagine quite a few complaints will be received for the flight yesterday as several of the seats in business class were broken and had to be manually operated by staff and at least two people in our cabin also had no entertainment.
carousel 27 postsSorry didnt see your other message too that you were on the flight, for your new one are you able to select your seats yet?
carousel 27 postsThanks so much for the quick response, it’s frustrating at best but appreciate I should have been more on the ball and pushed for the JAL option prior to accepting the flight two days later. We’ve chosen to stay on at the hotel we’re in which isnt cheap and we’ve downgraded our room so fingers crossed they will cover this… What I am slightly concerned about too is I can now see our booking and the seating chart, we’ve not been assigned seats, and there is only one seat showing as available. When I queried this on the call they said the seats are now under control of the airport to assign. I’m a bit worried we’re going to get bumped off this flight too
carousel 27 postsI did pretty much the same trip a couple of years ago using my 2-4-1 and avios business class but started in SJ – MA – then to Santa Teresa for 10 nights beach holiday – MV – Arenal back to SJ. I wouldnt spend anytime in SJ (personally). We went by road between all the locations but had a driver, just be mindful of the distances between places, you might think 60km or 100km wont take too long but in reality the roads are awful and not always paved so it can take hours (and hours). It’s a great trip to do, loads of activities, the wildlife is amazing just get yourself a small pair of binoculars and plenty of sunscreen – the sun is super intense so be careful
16th May 2023 at 09:26 in reply to: 12am GMT / 1am BST: Calling BA Executive Club to book reward flights at 355 dayscarousel 27 postsHey, where did you end up calling in the end. I’ve been booking these lucrative biz class seats for about 4 years and we’ve been successful however they’ve always been for Jan & November dates so calling India or the US worked for me. I have a friend booking the return leg tonight from Haneda as she’s thinking she’ll have to call Australia?
7th March 2023 at 12:49 in reply to: Upgrade voucher – when does it appear in account?carousel 27 postsI’ve just raised a complaint with Barclaycard. They confirmed they are aware of an issue crediting cabin upgrade vouchers to accounts but do not know when the issue will be resolved. It took me 45 minutes to find someone who knew this information too. Mine should have been credited on 23rd Feb (they state 5 working days), my avios do get credited promptly each month so there’s no issue with my BA Exec account info. I’ve asked them to credit the £20 a month fee back since inception and provide my voucher. Lets see what happens. Their customer service and agent availability is shocking too compared to AMEX (IMO)
25th January 2023 at 01:48 in reply to: BA LON to BKK not flying but not cancelled eithercarousel 27 postsJust an update as I posted on here when our 2 4 1 bus flights were cancelled LHR to BKK as BA were no longer flying that route (we’d booked them 355 days before). I pushed to be moved to Qatar bus which they did and we have just completed the flights and having been on many BA bus class long haul over the years using avios & the companion vouchers Qatar was next level service and seat wise. The Q Suites were great, food excellent and the service was far superior (IMO). The only downside was the transit in Doha as opposed to the direct flight we’d booked however I would take the option again. It also shows that if you persevere with the BA cancellations and insist on an alternative carrier rather than accepting a refund it definitely pays off.
carousel 27 postsThere seems to be multiple bugs. This happens a fair bit even when trying to book normal 2 4 1 bus long haul seats, it says no availability when you try and book then you use the “find alternative dates” feature which brings up the two month calendar and it will show availability, you then have to go back, chose the date where it showed availablity and hey presto it will let you book. It happened for flights I booked in November and just now for 13th Jan 24 for my outbound Singapore flights. you can’t trust the reward flight finder of the main website
carousel 27 postsHoping they dont do the same to me, they’ve allocated my seats too…
carousel 27 postsSo I just called and as noted above I’d booked using 2 4 1 in business from Lon to BKK and they cancelled my flights last night, 4th time lucky with speaking to BA as they’ve booked me on the Qatar flights. Ever the pessimist though I do wonder if this will actually take off!
carousel 27 postsMy January 2023 flight LHR to BKK business class using 2 4 1 has been cancelled too. I called and was told to take a refund, (I refused) on the chat they told me they are not authorised to make rebooking on their partner airlines (I was happy to take LON – HKT) but they refused. Its so irritating as I am seeing less point in booking bus seats 360 days in advance to get those golden business class ones as the last 3 I’ve booked have been cancelled
