    Just an update on this to say that United paid up with fuss for the early departure, as this is a site dedicated to loyalty – I must say I feel more loyal to the brand now. Certainly more than I can say for either Ryanair or BA who sometimes seem to go to extraordinary lengths to make the process difficult.

    Because of the date of the ECJ ruling it has no automatic implentation in the UK even though the cases may have started their leval process before the end of the Brexit transition period.

    Because they cancelled your flight, if it’s not for extraordinary circumstances, I think you are due some compensation. This is reduced however because the flight was 1+ hours earlier

    I will submit a claim, it was due to ‘staffing issues’. Anecdotally, the earlier flight was the emptiest flight I have seen for a while, so perhaps it was a commercial decision to cancel my original flight.

    I was lucky to arrive there early enough to make a dash for the earlier plane as my other rebooking options involved significant delays. Post COVID I’ve started to dial down my planned contingency times for the unexpected, once in a while it’s good to be early.

    Which came first, Uk261 or Dec 21 ECJ ruling?

    UK261, but not sure if the underlying cases themselves would pre-date UK261 and whether that would take primacy over the date of the published ruling.

    They got you there early? In what way have you suffered any loss or inconvenience?

    I thought it was a strange ruling, but I’m not here to question the ruling simply to ask how it is applied.

    I’m flying hkg-dps this summer, I spent a fair bit of time looking at options. Couldnt do anything with avios, but was able to get direct reward flights with cathay one way (amex rewards>Asia miles) and also garuda (virgin miles, had to book over the phone). My wife was not keen to take 2 children on one of the flights via Singapore given the total journey time. As I’m joining them in Bali I will be flying via Singapore on scoot – I suspect it will be quite relaxing in comparison to her direct journey.

    I had previously ignored this but following a missed call and an email this week, pulled the plug on using my Marriott card for business – I couldn’t be bothered to find out what the procedure would be for ‘unrecognised’ payments from my business.

    Booked on 22nd, showed as pending for several days. Has now posted showing original booking date of the 22nd and credit was posted on 24th. No emails received.

    Yep – I accepted on the understanding I was an eligible customer. No dice.

    I’ve actually stopped caring so am just letting it be and will undoubtedly hear back from the assigned FOS case officer some time in 2024.

    I accepted on that basis and they have pushed it over to Creation to ‘work out the details’. The uncertainty could have been avoided if Creation had been far clearer in their original offer – I’ve accepted on the basis that the offer will provide the refund, points earned till cancellation and the free night voucher (irrespective of their ‘trigger’ date). If it doesn’t then I suspect they’ll once again have a huge number of cases to be processed by the FOS and I simply can’t see the commercial or regulatory sense in that approach (but then again, they do have form in operating on an eyes wide shut basis, so perhaps nothing has been learned).

    Not really no.but would the other benefits like free weekend night and 4pm check out be helpful otherwise? I wouldn’t be taking out Ambassador purely on the basis of impressive room upgrades.

    I had assumed that I wouldn’t be able to use the weekend voucher on this stay as there was no availability for my credit card free night voucher – but appears they don’t look at the same inventory. Will email the hotel and see what they say – if I can use it, it’s a no brainer (then just need to generate the additional on site spend to hit the amex offer – it’s a strange hobby….)

    Chased them relentlessly – offer was activated in the app and purchase was made during qualifying period. After several months of chasing they simply said that Ebay didn’t ‘have a record of the offer being activated’ and that they wouldn’t do anything else. Ultimately, all these sorts of offers are contingent on tracking etc working and depending on the platform/merchant there doesn’t seem to be much desire to make things right. Other more recent offers seem to have tracked.

    Alas, any time spent on chat with nectar was likely wasted as the CSR seemed to be inclined to assure you all was well and just get rid of you. Both ebay and nectar do seem to work hard to make sorting things out very difficult – I’m sure that’s a proactive commercial decision.

    Downgraded from metal to basic this afternoon and it was actioned in less than an hour as perhaps there is some manual process. Good chance that upgrade to metal would be handled instantly once you’ve made payment. Card number appears the same.
