Adding to the discussion on whether insurance coverage is in place if you’ve purchased on a different Amex card vs. the Platinum.
I’ve just had a claim approved for an item I lost at the airport on my trip. The trip was paid for using the BA Amex (and not using Platinum) so I wasn’t sure if the claim would be accepted or not – but it was.

Last November we booked online with Europcar on their Argentinian site. Was important at the time as we wanted to be billed in ARS, vs. USD/EUR/GBP. Pickup was easy and friendly from the airport – there were a few other companies in the town / airport – I’m sure you’ll find them on maps.
No issues driving – although we didn’t have snow / ice to deal with, just wind. One stop at the roadblock coming out of the airport to check vehicle documents – but then after that we just slowed, with hazard lights on and were swiftly waved on. I’m sure they’ll advise you – but make sure to fill up whenever you have the opportunity as fuel shortages were an issue at the time, and the distances between fuel stations are long. (may be different now as the fuel subsidies may be gone or reduced)

How frustrating! And especially given your good standing. Disappointing for a long term customer.
I would recommend calling them and starting a formal complaint to investigate the decision. One of my card accounts was silently suspended a couple of months ago. Phone calls and chats with the customer service team didn’t yield anything useful, it was only when I started a formal complaint was the issue investigated. I never found out the reason for the suspension, and AMEX stated they couldn’t explain it either (not that they couldn’t share, more that the person investigating didn’t know the reason), but the card account was reinstated.
It does make me think twice about ‘relying’ on AMEX (I know you shouldn’t) and really makes it clear at this time, long term custom isn’t really valued. (as is their commercial choice)

Check SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance) is included in the quoted price. If I remember correctly it is required in Costa Rica, and I recall isn’t always included in the first quote you’ll see when looking online. That said you can add it on.
We got a small 4×4 and it was useful to have, but roads were decent. Only issue was traffic. One lane roads and a lot of traffic mean you average about 40mph.
Having a car is great though for exploring.

Just to update on this, after ~2 months, and multiple calls/chats to the support team, my card account was silently reinstated.
I had lodged a formal complaint regarding the situation – in particular regarding the runaround I was getting with the customer service team. The card account started working again about ~1 week after the complaint was lodged.
The complaint was upheld with a £ gesture of goodwill, but they couldn’t explain exactly why the card was suspended, or transactions were failing.
Hopefully this won’t recur, but for others it may be worth escalating to official complaint level, as the responses and information from the customer service team was useless. Hopefully this improves, as customer support was much better previously.

Have just booked an Aerolineas flight earlier this week. Booked in ARS using Chase. ~3 business days later refund came through on card for the MEP rate. Meant an effective discount of 55% vs. the original ARS quoted airfare.
One thing to note, kept getting an unexplained error on the final payment page when booking, which meant payment didn’t go through. Eventually realised that the cause for the error seemed to be leaving a space when entering UK postcode. Once I removed the space it worked.

Thanks @travel strong but unfortunately link doesn’t work for me, I get a “page can’t be found” error and then links back to the standard points.com page & pricing
Hopefully will be extended, or I figure out another way to add the promo code

Virgin have launched a Buy Points bonus offer which takes the cost of 78k points to £915 (or 97.5k for £990).
This runs til the end of July, and the redemption offer for a cruise for 80k virgin points is on Virgin Red with an ‘Ending soon’ banner.
1p per point sale is as good as it gets.
These cruises are now genuinely available to all for ~900 of points purchasing. If you were waiting to take the leap on purchasing points – now is a good time to do it.I don’t see this offer/sale, is it targeted?

Just logged in to start looking at redeeming ahead of 31st Dec deadline (yes cutting it fine).
My account now shows 88K expiring on 31/03/2023. But I have 100K in total.
So I think this means I have had another 3 months of mileage protection added. The last M&M CREDIT CARD Expiry Protection 1M post on my account was on 19th August.
Anyone else seeing the same or different?

I haven’t received either. It’s been ~100 days. Got in touch with chat support and they said it can be 30 days after the 90 day period to receive the bonus. So I’ll be checking again in ~20 days.

Just to add – same issue for me and my partner, with no referral link available or getting the same message. No self referrals, but we’ve been referring each other. Recently closed a platinum card, but had it for just over a year.

If the T2 Lounge is closed, it’s a short walk (~10mins) to the T1 Lounge which you can use instead. The terminal are connected post security, from T2 just follow the signs for T1 (100-300 gates), and the lounge is just by the exit from security as you enter T1

I got 3x over £100 spend and 1x £300 spend, used paypal friends and family, will report back if it works, if not then ill need to make other purchases but have not lost anything so far. According to anoth website, this transaction works successfully
Worked for me – took about 4-5 working days for the cashback to credit

Had the same issue this week, but on avios.com I was able to move them by using the Live Chat support. About 10-15 minute wait to connect to an agent, and then ~5-10 mins to verify details with an agent and for them to do the transfer.
I was also able to transfer to/from Iberia & AerClub on the Iberia website. But not to/from BA.

Logged and in and 85K of my 100K miles show an expiry date of 30/9/22. Not sure about why it’s 85K and not 100K. Haven’t had any info / email from them. Planning to just try and book some redemption in the next day or so to finally use them up.
