Worth noting it’s likely a really bad time to buy Avios unless you have a redemption in the next few weeks / partner airlines in mind
Why is that please?

How much was the cash element of the fare?
If it’s more than £35 then you pay £35. if less then it’s the 50p/leg
Two questions please:
1) So if it’s £35 exactly, then you pay the 50p/leg?
2) What if just a single leg has a £35 cash option? Would it still be 50p charge? Thanks
to answer my own question…
The charge is £35! This is on a single leg trip10th November 2024 at 11:28 in reply to: British Airways offering (near) free cancellation on Avios bookingsdynamodolman 13 posts

Ah ok – yes it was way more than £35, as I thought when combined with the Avios it was the best priced option.
School boy error!

I made a Business Class booking a month ago (no Economy seats on flight)
Went to cancel it today and it’s for a £35 cancellation charge with it! Through the normal online way – so not the “Contact Us” way.Are Business class seats exempt from the online £0.50 cancellation charge please?
Thanks

Update on the cancellation form issue:
Spoke to a very helpful BA assistant today and the issue was my booking had a status of “TK”. The assistant didn’t know why, but for a confirmed booking it should be “HK”.
So the assistant changed the status to HK and then when I went into the booking online and looked at the Cancellation page, it was working correctly.
So no admin form for me to fill in, but the Avios and Cash refund form that I’d expect.
Cancelled through that and got the AVios refunded and the cash back.‘TK1’ means a schedule change not yet accepted for one person. When it is accepted it changes to ‘HK1’ (for hold confirmed, one seat, or HK2 for two seats etc). Many airlines won’t allow other actions such as seat changes until the status change is accepted.
Thanks for the info.
I never had an email through about the schedule change.
Do you think there was somewhere in My Account and My Bookings that I could have confirmed that would have changed the status to HK please?

Ah good point thank – but no there hadn’t been.
But what I did do was book the flights using the 9250 Avios/£0.50 option first.
Then cancelled them – and the normal cancellation form came up.
The re-booked them using 4750/£17.50 optionSo maybe that means it now requires manual review.
Oddly, I did that with all my original flights and for most of them the second cancellation went through fine

I don’t understand I’m afraid…
“Working as intended” would be the normal cancellation that appears with an amount that you get refunded and an amount that you lose through administration.
For most of my short-haul European cancellations I see the normal cancellation screen with a £0.50 admin fee and a refund of £17.00.
But for 3 of the cancellations I see the form above with Name, Email, Address etc and no admin fee confirmation3rd December 2023 at 12:19 in reply to: British Airways offering (near) free cancellation on Avios bookingsdynamodolman 13 posts
I booked about 10 flights.
For 7 of them the cancellation worked as expected – only charged me the £0.50 admin fee and I got the £17 back.
However, for 3 of the flights, when I try to cancel rather than get the normal cancellation form with avios, refund amount etc, I get the form below.
This is a bit worrying as I imagine after I submit that form the cancellation will go down a different route and I will lose the whole £17.50.Has anyone else experienced this please?
ThanksAh I can’t copy in a screenshot of the form – so here is a text version!
