Another consideration here, regardless of error is that clearly both parties have made a mistake. And it’s clear there is a genuine error.

So considering this, should BA not have systems in place that allow someone to be called to enable them to issue a ticket at the agreed Avios and cost.

So, yes sir there has been an error and also you haven’t paid. If you are willing to pay now and let us redeem the Avios, we’re all good. Surely that is the answer?

Same day. But we land at LHR at midday and don’t connect til 9pm. So should have time and even catch a matinee

Correct, the extra 40k I would earn or boost. I started a separate thread of whether people thought it was good value. I think the general consensus was yes. Q Suite also on my bucket list.

It would also get me to DPS so I’d save a SIN/KUL – DPS positioning flight, albeit they are ridiculously cheap.

    Thanks AJA.

Issue is this – 2 to SIN is 240000 each way (which is what I have after boosting) so assuming I can apply the 241 on outbound, that’s 120000 gone – leaving me 120000. I’d need 240000 to book the return without a 241. I don’t think I’ll be able to boost that much. A Qatar for 2 to DPS is just 160000 – which I’d earn in the meantime.

Sadly I’m Avios poor (and cash poor hahaha) as my main way of earning is CC spend and this last year been directing this at VS…

You’re right in that the voucher can be used starting outside the UK, so it did make me wonder. I hope that’s the case, should the situation every arise where QR release more Avios seats in July, which does seem unlikely. I know under normal circumstances, cancelling a revenue outbound is a no go but that’s down to rev management and fares in certain countries, etc

Maybe there is only way to find out…..

    Appreciate everyone’s help here.

Thanks Northern Lass. I will be booking my outbound first. So when I call to add an inbound they will essentially so it as a separate ticket and PNR but are still able to apply the 241?

To be clear though, I have to book the inbound by calling as I won’t have enough Avios to do a separate booking and then get half back.

It isn’t, no. Looking at doing it in next few weeks. Essentially, I have a 241 and want to book SIN or KUL with BA (final destination is DPS), with a return from KUL a week later.

Now my preference would be outbound with QR to DPS but it’s all Flexi in July. Anecdotally it appears that there is a small chance that in a few months (or even a few months before) QR release non Flexi.

So if this was the case, I wonder if I could cancel my BA outbound and rebook on QR.

Of course, the obvious thing is 2 one ways, but I have a 241 so don’t think I can do that.

One for those in the know. I used to work for another airline (not BA) and booking tickets was more or less my job.

After a certain amount of time (depending sometimes on ticketing rules and indeed load factors – but usually 48 hiurs) revenue management would warn someone in the PNR that an unticketed booking would be cancelled and eventually the sectors cancelled.

Does BA not do this? Surely eventually this would result in the itin no longer being visible in MMB?

I know this doesn’t answer the question but surely BA should have this in place.

Am I being daft? Today at 1am (23/7) (approx 7 hours ago) BA put on sale flights for Saturday 12 July. Now, is that not 354 days?

I’m sure last time I looked it was 355 but has something changed now? Or am I being silly here?

I am yet to get any joy at all in Business non-Flexi from Manchester for any peak date in June – July 2025. It’s fine on non peak and then coincidentally all becomes Flexi (For J anyway). Have to admit I have seen some Y class standard at peak season.

    Interesting.

Sadly won’t be able to use a 241 though.

Thanks all. Well flight wise too it would be MAN-LHR-Sin-dps so actually MAN-Doh-DPS also better maybe 🙂

Thanks. My final issue is this.. Is MAN-DPS on QR, MAN-SIN on BA. It looks likes the QR awards might come available after the BA ones, so I guess there’s a risk I wait for QR and lose the BA.

With free seat selection and with Q suite being on the bucket list, the cost seems neither here nor there, but again, views appreciated.

It is a little sneaky. No warning, and worse still no comms. £25 not the end of the world but seems it’s been sneaked in. I suppose the majority of people redeeming would have no clue anyway so perhaps that’s why.

Same on long haul. Singapore in CW was 240k (peak) + £600 now it’s + £625

    ekposh 248 posts

For context, I’m trying a domestic Delta route, Y class, using VS points. Nearly impossible, despite the being tens of flights a day, at most only one shows which is at a terribly inconvenient time. Then a few weeks before, they all pop up before vanishing.

Extensive online research has led to me to conclude that Delta availability with partner miles is totally random and generally quite poor, so I guess it’s a question of luck and perseverance.

Sounds like excuses to me. Don’t get me wrong, the occasional freak weather phenomenon is understandable but this feels slightly more normal.

Either way then, if there are significant blockers to delivering luggage then this needs to be clearly signposted and frankly then don’t charge £100s worth of fees to do it.

I rarely complain and certainly wouldn’t be agressive in doing so but ultimately people waiting for hours to pick up luggage is ridiculous.

The problem may well have been the weather but I’m afraid it’s just an excuse or symptom of much deeper rooted issues.

    ekposh 248 posts

Quite, I landed 6 days ago in MAN and I’d still be waiting.

It obviously happened in London, and yes, it’s frankly a disgrace that they even have the cheek to come up with that as an excuse.

in reply to: Companion voucher – pay/points combo?
    ekposh 248 posts

It varies doesn’t it. When using a voucher, I often find the max Avios min cash is best value (if you can boost) but the voucher has a big impact so it makes sense as you effectively save a bigger portion of miles.

Thanks. I’m not staying. I have a 5h layover and flying SQ to Bali on a separate ticket but economy. I’ll probably just check back in and use PP / Dragonpass for a lounge I guess.

I boosted today at 0.92p which is standard so must be something wrong if you are seeing higher.

It also let me Boost transactions from June 1st so slightly over the 30 days… Meant I got two lots of Barclaycard spend.

I never ended up doing it as my booking failed but I intended to and the operator said they would waive the fee as I advised them on the first call that the intention was to add the return.

Can’t verify if this is actually the case though.

in reply to: 241 and upgrade voucher conundrum
    ekposh 248 posts

I don’t think that will work. If your son is on separate tickets, you can’t just apply the voucher for both.

I can’t think of a solution here except:

    – your wife using the 241 for half miles as a single traveller (outbound home she pleases, return J)
    – buy a one way ON Avios for you and son LON-HKG
    – you use your voucher to upgrade you and your son to business on return (do this as a one way as taxes will be cheap)

Perhaps someone can think of a better solution.

Long haul on SQ is pretty much non existent using VS miles.

Why did you do this and not put your nephew on a separate booking?!
