What were the conditions for getting a Barclays Premier joint account? 1 to earn 75k? Combined of something higher? Personally, my net is above their minimum, but my gross is below 75k, so I can’t honestly “tick the box” on the form. As our salaries are both currently paid into a joint account, I expect my wife would want to keep that arrangement, so if we were to ever switch, joint Premier might be an option?24th October 2022 at 16:21 in reply to: 2,500 points on a £10 spend on the Amex Gold cardFatherOfFour

Another vote for Clubcard points. Have done it 3 or 4 times now. Can be used to book online despite Tesco saying you need to phone.7th September 2022 at 11:10 in reply to: Family holiday destinations with young childrenFatherOfFour
We found Buitenhof de Leistert in Netherlands to be a good alternative to Eurocamps. Lovely detached cottage accommodation, suiting small and large groups. Whirlpool bath, sauna, pet friendly garden, cots, highchairs etc. Onsite pool was nice, but not spectacular if I recall. There is also an onsite campsite for campers.
Centerparcs Belgium/NL border too, about £1k cheaper than UK in the school holidays.6th September 2022 at 13:14 in reply to: British Airways USA phone number from the UK??FatherOfFour31st August 2022 at 12:44 in reply to: Euro Traveller Economy plus 48hr free seat selectionFatherOfFour
There have been a few reports recently of people surprised to be able to get seat selection at 48 hours and this seems to explain jt!30th August 2022 at 11:41 in reply to: How do British Airways profit from Avios?FatherOfFour

How long ago did she get the gold card? My wife recently got a gold card and the PP pack came a week or so later.
A few years ago when I got my gold, it was Lounge Pass at the time, pack didn’t arrive so I had to call and chase via Amex.5th August 2022 at 22:35 in reply to: My +1 on an Avios 241 earned full Avios and TPs!FatherOfFour

Thanks – reassured about the original join date on the card showing.
The original card does say “CANCELLED” with an orange dot against it, so I think the account did close. I believe she got a paper closure statement too.
In my experience, I have had to manually remove cancelled cards from the app and have usually left this a few months, especially if expecting a refund on something.9th July 2022 at 20:16 in reply to: BA’s [upcoming] prepaid MastercardFatherOfFour

Used them last November and pretty sure I had the Avios by Christmas. Probably within the 21 days.24th June 2022 at 15:29 in reply to: New Avios offerFatherOfFour
What’s the end game for BA here? are they just trying to ensure that Avios are spent with them, rather than converted to Nectar? And since the flights are already busy, they can take cash AND reduce the liability rather than opening up full redemptions?

I applied for the 50k bonus offer and was accepted. This morning I received my Avios Barclaycard through the post. However when I log into the Barclaycard app, it shows my progress towards a 25k bonus rather than 50k. Is this expected or an error ?
I definitely applied via the HfP link and haven’t had any other Barclaycard products in the past 2 years.
Quite often “special offers” aren’t coded into the trackers on apps- that goes for both Amex and Barclaycard in my experience. It shows the default SUB, then the full amount is often delivered at the end in one bulk, or in 2 stages.
I had the initial 25k bonus and 5k “goodwill” came separate, as did the 5k HfP bonus for those who got that. If you can evidence your application date with a screenshot of the offer you should be fine!22nd June 2022 at 17:21 in reply to: Worth attaining Bronze?FatherOfFour
Thanks @The Savage Squirrel and @John.
I’m suitably convinced spending £600 on this might be a bit of fun for me, but a rather reckless waste of £600.
I had a discussion with the wife too… and the idea was quickly shut down, though she was keen to apply for a new Barclaycard!21st June 2022 at 16:34 in reply to: Worth attaining Bronze?FatherOfFour
Thanks all – realistically our flights over the next few years will be in Y. I can’t justify paying for 4 young kids to go in club- they wouldn’t appreciate it! So, the benefit of the check-in desks and additional Avios is a consideration.
I’d like to go for silver, but I think initially Bronze would be achievable before my trip. I’m probably looking at 4 scenarios:
1) No TP Run, no seat reservation: Risk getting bad seats/downgraded on my outbound flight in November. If this happens, I should actually get money back? £0
2) Reserve seats on the busier outbound sector. Still a risk of being turfed out, but seat fee refunded and reimbursed for downgrade. c£200
3) Reserve seats both way. c£400
2a/3a) See if BA run an Avios seat fee sale again this year, which worked out at about 25% of normal Avios cost or 2p/point. Take advantage of that.
4) TP run to get to Bronze, reserve some half-decent seats (all window pairs gone, but would go for a honeymoon pair), and reduce downgrade risk £600.
Typing this out, I realise I’m effectively looking to insure my CW booking. As this is a once in a generation treat for us, (probably 14 years before we can leave the kids again), we’d be gutted to be downgraded, but is it worth £600? probably not.
Any additional flights (apart from Australia) are likely to be CE redemptions or ET cash, so wouldn’t make status very quickly.21st June 2022 at 13:45 in reply to: Worth attaining Bronze?FatherOfFour
Thanks… I’d be teed up for Silver quite nicely, though doubt I’d get it in time for the LH trip. I’m just not sure if the requirement for 450 (rather than 600) will increase again after this current TP year ends, or if after December ’22, meaning the 130 gap would suddenly become 280 and more out of reach.
Being based just outside of London means that the domestic connections aren’t necessary, though I could sneak some MAN or NCL returns in – I’m sure I can find some work to do up there!18th June 2022 at 15:39 in reply to: US Dollar BillsFatherOfFour
Looking online at Tesco, there seems to be a min. order of £50, so I’m hoping I can just do a walk-in. Alternatively, I’ll make it up with Euros which I can always use another time.
Interesting regarding Argentina and the arbitrage possibilities there! From what I’ve read about Grenada, they don’t want anything bigger than a $20.18th June 2022 at 09:38 in reply to: US Dollar BillsFatherOfFour
Thanks all, Tesco “tip pack” sounds perfect. Not too bothered about the rate on such a small amount, it’s just the practicalities of getting them!8th June 2022 at 14:31 in reply to: BA’s [upcoming] prepaid MastercardFatherOfFour
I wouldn’t bother applying now without a sign-up bonus unless you’re off travelling in the next week or so ….
Is there still a sign-up bonus coming?28th May 2022 at 17:34 in reply to: SeatSpy – departure time filterFatherOfFour
I think momondo works for time filters, but this doesn’t help OPs specific need.
I agree,it would be a useful feature.
