Agree it’s personal, but we are windows 2or 3 rows back, except when there is a first cabin so front bulkhead isn’t by galley.
I haven’t had anyone come to me first as gold for ages. Indeed on last flight I was in row 7 in middle of the big club suite cabin on 1000, they missed me entirely. SoAvoid that if you can
Garethgerry 67 postsThe 125 number should be in APP, (not in website) check there, if it’s not ring BA
Garethgerry 67 postsHave more Holidays
Garethgerry 67 posts@LD27, if it says JFK on the stickers they give you, she’ll be fine. Very unusual though. When I checked a bag in for my (separate) MAN-LHR connection last December the first thing I got from the desk agent was “I can only check that through to London.” Literally the first words out of her mouth 😂
Currently in the serene environs of the GLA lounge (once I found it!) where my happiness has been made even greater by the presence of a jar of tablet 😋
I think she must have charmed someone at bag drop!
Did you stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Glasgow Airport? We’re hoping to go to Barra next year and so plan to stay at the airport overnight. Sounds like there are no major issues.
The Lounge and tablet sounds good. Enjoy and safe travels.
It’s been a long time (15years) since I moved , but had 30 years of flying though checking on BA from Manchester no problems.
What’s caused it to change.
Garethgerry 67 postsYou get 125…. ticket Number on confirmation email and on APP but not for reasons known only to BA IT on website
Garethgerry 67 postsUsing a 241 for one person, where you pay half avios makes the compensation for downgrade in Avios a quarter of what you’d get if you had used it for 2 people.
Thus if only one person it’s best to try to get a first reroute. For two is a more even choice
Garethgerry 67 postsStick to same plane , get the 75% avios, but ring you first up saying how you were looking foward CCR , say it would be a great gesture of goodwill if you could use CCR. If they say n ,ask about other carriers.
26th August 2024 at 11:47 in reply to: Avios booking – downgrade compensation questionGarethgerry 67 posts@JDB thanks. So the reimbursement should be a combination of Avios and cash? The cash portion – that would be 75% of the fees I paid associated with the booking?
It’s 75% of the cash paid for the downgraded leg, but BA is entitled to deduct the fees it actually pays away such as taxes/airport charges, taking into account any fees that are lower for economy. The Avios part is a straight 75% of the Avios paid on that leg and should be based on the Avios for the class you travelled in so as to account for the value of the voucher.
Shouldn’t it be 75% of the class you booked , not 75% of the downgraded class you travelled in
25th August 2024 at 19:05 in reply to: Avios booking – downgrade compensation questionGarethgerry 67 postsSee the thread at bottom of this page BA exec forum on downgrade compensation, a good discussion of does and don’t
Garethgerry 67 postsI’ve experienced this when I’ve flown airlines that only have one or two longhaul flights a day, eg ANA and Kenya. But thought that was because they only staffed check-in for limited hours. With BA Never thought about it, we often turn up early as have a 6 hr drive to Heathrow. Just turn up and check-in, but been gold ever since they invented tier points based Exec club in late 80s.
Garethgerry 67 postsYou live and learn I never knew there was a time limit for anyone
14th August 2024 at 11:53 in reply to: Can’t choose seat – only available at check in?Garethgerry 67 postsTo be precise , Meant to say companion voucher booking confirmation email comes through in under an hour
14th August 2024 at 11:52 in reply to: Can’t choose seat – only available at check in?Garethgerry 67 postsMy avios companion voucher email ,comes through in under an hour. I can choose seats straight away.
I personally would chase this.
Garethgerry 67 postsDefinitely ring then asap . No harm in being proactive, better to get certainty. You will need to get it sorted before you fly. Over a week seems to be a long time to wait for email confirmation.
By the way why didn’t you insist they rebooked you with someone else on your original dates.
Garethgerry 67 postsOnce you get to 48hrs nearly everyone will have booked seats. Can you ring ask if they can book seats , I know they can’t in theory, but might find a away. If you have time polite nagging can help.
Is there a first class on your flight, if you can’t sit together, then a good story to ask for upgrade. BA taking over a month to issue tickets so unable to book seats for no faultof your own..
Garethgerry 67 posts51000 × 1.7p per person plus some of cash paid is certainly more than £500 per person . Much nearer £1000pp . Take in cash, can buy avios if wants when on sale at circa 1.1p
Garethgerry 67 postsRead the CAA document, you are entitled to 75% of the value of the ticket for that leg .
Ie 75% of (cash for that leg plus value of two lots of avios that you would have paid for first, compensation based on companion voucher being worth the number of avios you would have paid without it, Rob I think says you can use 1.7 pence per avios, BA standard rate).
There are quite a few threads on this search this forum .
This is a lot more than BA are offering you.
Garethgerry 67 postsAgree, booking.com via BA store is not the best deal any more . Just done a 3 week UK Anniversary tour , 4 hotels it seems that in every case booking directly beat booking.com. Either hotel membership 10% off, hotel 4 nights for 3 if booked directly, hotel bottle of bubbles a decent champagne. Similarly booked hotel in Spain 15% off via members rate. Only recent booking.com was Holiday Inn for Cruise, no discount so used booking.com via ba.store.
Historically have used booking.com via BA store as default , but it seems hotels are trying harder to get direct bookings and linking discountto simple process of on-line memberships.
Would like to thank Rob for his article on getting Barclaycard Avios for non Amex spend, didn’t realise how many Avios I missed , so just keep Halifax for abroad.
Garethgerry 67 postsSorry predictive text should read what I write
Should said ” me to try quote in Landscape “
Garethgerry 67 postsPs Apologies, quote not working on my iPhone in portrait or landscape…
Thanks you just sparked memory quote in Landscape, it works (unlike portrait
Garethgerry 67 postsI think it’s normal or very common not the be able to print e ticket receipt on BA MMB for avios bookings, I get that error on my two bookings , even though no changes have been made to either.
If you are worried then either keep phoning BA , or use the what seems Bizarre but effective idea of going onto Finnair website
Garethgerry 67 postsMy methodology, get cash price for a return for roughly when I’m going, usually means the weeks before.
Then compare the avios spend plus taxes valuing as Rob says an Avios at 1p.
With a 241 Avios is very much cheaper for long haul business especially CapeTown, the gamble is getting return leg. Think avios is much less of a bargain for economy where you can be lucky to get good deals which beat Avios.
However must remember you already have paid for avios in past (either bought or collected) so even if a cash ticket would be in some circumstances less than Avios plus cash, you will have to lay out less hard cash with avios route. Cash flow may outweigh theoretical cost
Garethgerry 67 postsFirstly what different airlines do is irrelevant on a BA forum.
Secondly I also don’t remember any of the people who have raised their problems on this thread saying they booked via a third party. They all booked directly with BA. NO Avios bookings go through a third party so in these cases money must be paid directly to BA. Note this website is “head for points” and forum is about Avios and BAEC. Distancing BAH from BA is questionable use same booking engine for flight component. So for any booking with BA or BAH the no money no booking rule should be valid and would highlight a problem. I still think the lack of an E-ticket receipt is best signal.
You still haven’t quoted an instance where the passenger can avoid paying money up front to BA or to a hopefully trusted and fully indemified agent of BA.
However booking via a third party does add its complications and more chance of BA not getting the money and of things going wrong in chain of communication. It is a much wider question of what the premium you pay for booking directly and is it worth it.
Garethgerry 67 postsOnly corporate bookings have no cash upfront , yes they go on account, that’s how I got 80000 teir points
If you can tell me how a private individual can get a ticket from BA without any money being paid let me know. All the people on this forum that raise their issues are debating as individuals, not corporate accounts.
Garethgerry 67 postsWhat I don’t understand is why there should be any circumstances that you can’t see your E-ticket. Even for an avios booking an E-ticket must exist for you to fly. So I don’t understand why they say it can’t be displayed .
It would be simple either you can see it or not, and not being able to see it means something wrong.
Personally I would never accept not having an E-ticket receipt email and keep nagging them.
What I also don’t understand is if the money owed hasn’t been paid , why they would generate a booking in the first place. Yes for a BA holiday, ans some tickets, money owed would at first only be deposit. I don’t think there is any ticket you can get without some amount being paid as you book it (count a voucher as cash) . No money no booking showing, then you know to talk to BA to sort it.
