VS website had this up 2-3 days ago. “Looking for a Virgin Atlantic flight to Hong Kong? Our flights to Hong Kong are back on sale from 26th March 2023, ready for the summer next year.”

    1. Belt & braces so why not.
    2. 5 mins is not quite enough I think as you need to clear data protection & advise them what you are looking for. Generally dial 15 mins prior to release should be ok unless BA phone line very busy.
    3. Yes same drill one week later for inbound.. zzz. Unless you want to secure the inbound online and twitter them to refund. Avoid doing this for destinations with high charges for one way inbound (eg USA)
    4. No admin fees. “Most” CSAs know what they need to do.

Good luck! It’s a tiring game but would be thankful when you are in those seats.

Presumably decision would be taken start of 23 whether to re-start LHR HKG. Shame as not easy getting to SE Asia these days.

For an infant though you’ll need to buy the insert so it is proper money. But Freddo (6) and Kermit (9) are still happily sitting in their ones – it is brilliant in that it allows them to sit at a more appropriate height to an adult chair and can be adjusted as they grow.

They are great and good value in the long run. Ours, who turned 5 recently, were still sitting with the inserts in situ til few months ago to horror of others. Well but it was either that or droppings all over the Dinesen.

Interesting. Cherry on top would be allowing 2-4-1/upgrade vouchers to be used with other Skyteam members. Think it’s wishful thinking on my part.

DP: British passport renewal for children. Paper applications lodged via Post Office Check & Send service on 23 Aug, and both returned 20 Sep.

The manager at the Post Office tried to dissuade me to use them (!) and advised would take 4 months which I didn’t quite buy.

Not sure it resolves the IT conflict, but the article is a good reference for 2022/23. https://www.headforpoints.com/2022/01/01/2022-peak-and-off-peak-avios-flight-dates/

Cancelling resets the clock for another SUB (which is 2 years for Avios Plus I think), but you would lose a non-Amex Avios earning card if that’s important.

Worth a call as some VS CSAs can be flexible.

If your OH sets you up as a delegate on their account then can’t a single agent grab all 4 for you?[/quote]
We are each other’s their party nominee, but BA’s computer says no.

And now it’s time for bed.

Worst part is trying to fall asleep with all that adrenaline. Had a totally unimpressed OH also awake & calling as we had a 2-4-1 each. Agreed CSAs less au fait with the 1am rigmorale compare to few years ago. Only one CSA used to be needed to get 4 seats amongst the two BAECs simultaneously. However, CSAs now claim could only do sequentially, and the seats would have probably gone by the time one cleared data protection for the second BAEC.

Could someone who has QPC be so kind to check for reward flight availability on Bangkok Airways? One way, SIN- USM (direct), any cabin, on either 2 or 3 Aug 23? If available, what are the avios required and number of seats available on these two date? TIA.

in reply to: How are room upgrades determined?
    Gary

Hilton newbie. Booking a Sat (one) night stay at Canopy by Hilton London City. Would like to stay in junior suite or above. Both of us have HH Gold fr Amex.

    HH App prices
    A) King Premium room £361 (free cancellation up to 2359hr day before)
    B) Junior suite £446 (same terms as above)
    C) One-bedroom suite £541 (same terms as above)

What options below would be best? I am leaning towards option 3.

    1) book A and hope for upgrade to B
    2) book B and be pleasantly surprised if upgraded to C
    3) book both A & B from different HH accounts, and check APP to see what upgrades offered and cancel one accordingly. How soon prior to check-in does HH app confirm/offer the upgrade?

PS It’s part of Amex Hotel Collection but no credit if just one night I think. Also considered Emyr but probably a bit of an overkill for a one night stay.

RAK from LHR and/or LGW depending on the departure date.

    Gary

Friend booked ROKA Aldwych two Sundays ago. Arrived to discover option of opting for bottomless alcohol (red/white/Prosecco) for 2 hours & also part of Amex Dining! Food portions were generous but quality only a small step up from Eat Tokyo. However, I imagine most patrons did’t mind. Alcohol was served generously, but service was left to be desired (guess one should be grateful anyone even turned up these days). Bill for the bottomless option for two came to £160 with £150 credited 3 days later.

Subsequently popped into Belthazar (also part of Amex Dining) around the corner for cocktails which were again mediocre.

Not sure would book either restaurants myself unless the desire was to experience Covent Garden floating postprandial.

Dined in a fried chicken place in Harlem and credit posted 3 days later. The meal came to £130.92 but the credit was £126.18. Odd but think will leave it.

Am using your proposed option 3 and was very easy to install. Download “T-mobile prepaid eSIM” app on iOS, and it checks your phone for compatibility. Then app gives you 3 packages to pick from and provides a US number straight away. I went for the cheapest $35 package valid for 30 days and gives you 10 or 12 GB data (sorry cannot remember as mainly after the phone calls) & unlimited calls/texts.

I am not sure this is the cheapest but went for it as I couldn’t find an alternative provider.

in reply to: Virgin redemptions using a 2-4-1 voucher – how?
    Gary

Can call USA if one wishes. For UK, call at 7am and usually through in less than 5.

If using 3 vouchers & all passengers in the household account, check if CSA would permit a 4 for 1 redemption (it has happened but not sure just by luck, so worth a try).

in reply to: Cancelling Avios / 241 Tickets
    Gary

Cancelled two 2-4-1 bookings today & it was a painful experience. First CSA cut me off whist transferring. Second CSA took well over an hour to cancel two bookings which required two call backs (1 hour limit & IT issue).

DP- 4 J seats to CUN over Christmas booked at T+355, so they were the “guaranteed” seats. They never returned to reward inventory when checked immediately as would have posted here. So guaranteed seats are only as such at release, but may not be anymore once been through cancellations.

Does the Three Feel At Home pay monthly contract renewed before Sep 2021 cover calls to local numbers (eg restaurants) whilst in USA? I know it includes roaming data in USA & calls back to UK without the daily £5 charge being an “old” contract.

Mandarin Oriental has beautiful rooms and is centrally located. It has a what one would call paddling pool on the roof top. Think there is a bigger pool in the spa. They used to do a sumptuous Sunday lunch buffet with unlimited champagne pre-pandemic but not sure if it’s still going.

in reply to: Getting to East Asia with a 2-4-1
    Gary

Today’s daily chat focused my mind on plans for summer 23. Would like to get to Koh Samui and, if it opens up, Taiwan. Will have a few days where we fly into as well. Ex-LHR much preferred and would be good to utilise 2 BAPP and/or 2 VS vouchers available but not a must. Would need 4 J seats.

Thinking of booking following: Plan A VS LHR HKG & Plan B BA LHR SIN, and see how the world pans out & decide closer to departure date. Did think of QR to BkK but not sure likely get four seats ex LHR unless they also guarantee reward seats?

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.
