I finally received a reply from BA. They have not found why it happened but they have said that it should not have happened and they have apologised. They have also refunded me the Avios used on that leg of the trip.
Wow! That’s a great result for just having been moved seats in the same cabin. You still haven’t said what the route was, hopefully one that used many Avios 😉17th May 2022 at 10:13 in reply to: Barclaycard £10 Amazon creditiamlost
Can’t see anything about this on the main Amazon or Barclaycard site, and moments is a developer site for Amazon, so I’m not clicking the link until there’s something on the main site pages
I understand that Moments is their platform to deliver third-party rewards and campaigns like this one.
But I’m also waiting for this to be tried and tested first…17th May 2022 at 08:26 in reply to: Apple Payiamlost
Well, looks like it’s finally working with Apple Pay (I’ve not tried paying with it yet, but managed to add it to Apple Pay).
Hallelujah! It finally works. The image they’ve used doesn’t do the real card justice (which I found surprisingly nice irl).15th May 2022 at 13:26 in reply to: It’s really not very good, is it?iamlost
Rightly or wrongly, I can’t think of another example that’s damaged people’s trust in HfP and Rob’s recommendations as much as this Barclaycard has. It is, perhaps, a lesson not to push future products and promotions quite so hard—especially when they’re untested.15th May 2022 at 00:32 in reply to: Strategy A or B to retain BA Silver?iamlost
I wasn’t aware there was a 75% threshold?
Only until 31 Dec. See https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/tiers-and-benefits14th May 2022 at 10:18 in reply to: Strategy A or B to retain BA Silver?iamlost
Thanks all for the thoughts. A number of you are questioning if I should even chase Silver – there’s no question in my mind I benefit lots from it, as I spend 1-2 weekends a month in Switzerland. The fast track security, lounge, seat selection and priority boarding are invaluable and it would be costly to book CE every time to get them without Silver.
So this is really an A or B choice for me…13th May 2022 at 16:21 in reply to: Your hot tips for the best steak in London?iamlost
It used to be CUT, now I’d say it’s Colony Grill Room.
I stand by what I said. The Colony Grill Room never disappoints.12th May 2022 at 16:06 in reply to: ‘Fronting’ with Curve – does it really work for earning Avios?iamlost
I hadn’t realised fronting works to pay off Amex bills… Has anyone done it using the new Barclaycard Avios?8th May 2022 at 14:29 in reply to: How can I close my Barclaycard account?iamlost
I closed my old Barclaycard by calling. I did it with the automated option, but also talked to a person the next day to get a reference number. They sent me two identical letters to confirm the closure a few days later, so I guess both methods technically worked.6th May 2022 at 11:44 in reply to: Hilton Maldives Rangali Conrad booking detailsiamlost
I’ve stayed at both resorts on points (Waldorf @480k for 5 nights in 2019, Conrad @760k for 10 nights this year).
At the Conrad I would highly highly recommend paying the small upgrade fee to move to the recently refurbished villas – the difference is night and day from the ones you get on points. I split my stay between a sunset water villa and deluxe beach villa. Both were excellent, but still a notch below the beach villa at the Waldorf which was near faultless.
The transfers are similarly priced – I probably preferred the seaplane as it’s a fairly unique Maldives experience, but the Waldorf’s Princess Yacht felt luxurious enough to almost be worth the price tag. Almost. One difference is the Conrad seaplane lounge is not allowed to serve alcohol as it’s on the mainland, while on the Waldorf yacht I went through most of a bottle of champagne each way.
I had exemplary service at the Waldorf, from every single staff member. The only slight snags were buggy delays once or twice, and being given wrong information about dinner reservations one night that they made up for by giving me a private tour of their private island the next day. At the time, it had only ever been booked by one guest – a Saudi prince. Service at the Conrad was distinctly average, including a few communication issues with my concierge and being left to wait around unnecessarily at times. Nothing egregious, but I expected better. Also, having visited the Muraka, I left thinking it’s overhyped inside and out.
Gold and Diamond benefits were not too different between the resorts. The Waldorf breakfast far trumps the Conrad, as you’d expect. Happy hour at the Waldorf was a five-star experience, including a decent menu of cocktails and impressive canapés. The Conrad happy hour had only one cocktail a day and a budget plate of canapés. On arrival, the Waldorf gave me a bottle of Delamotte champagne while the Conrad gave an unremarkable Cabernet.
I was expecting to be underwhelmed by the food at the Conrad, but every meal was surprisingly good. Standouts were the wine cellar dinner as well as the lobster and champagne beach barbecue event. The undersea restaurant is gimmicky but fun. The Waldorf in-villa dining was the best room service I’ve ever had, and every dinner was as good as you’d expect at a Waldorf. Conrad menus are slightly cheaper, but both were worthwhile despite the Maldives pricing.
The quality of the house reef is much better at the Conrad, though I didn’t appreciate how far out you have to swim for the best parts compared to the Waldorf. The location of other watersports activities at the Conrad was a little odd, I much preferred the lagoon at the Waldorf. The main pool at the Waldorf is also in a different league to the Conrad’s.
I’ll stress that most of the negatives I mentioned about the Conrad are relative to the Waldorf, which set a very high bar. The Conrad still a great way to use points, but I’d feel differently if I had booked it with cash. I would definitely return to the Waldorf (though I’m eyeing up the Raffles for my next Maldives trip), but one visit to the Conrad was enough for me. Hopefully a useful perspective.5th May 2022 at 17:45 in reply to: HfP exclusive sign up bonusiamlost
It’s been said five thousand times now @Matt – including three posts above yours! – that it will be paid out 60 days after the offer ended, which means early June.22nd April 2022 at 15:06 in reply to: The HSBC Premier Mastercards threadiamlost
Is there any use case for me to take out a Premier credit card when I already hold Barclaycard Avios and Amex? 🤔13th April 2022 at 18:08 in reply to: Post new Amex statement credit offers here!iamlost
Got a new offer for collecting 1 bonus MR point per £2 up to 1000 MR points on the Gold card.
I received their email about this at lunchtime but got “Unfortunately the maximum number of Cardmembers have already enrolled in this offer” when I tried to save it. Did anyone actually manage to do it?11th April 2022 at 17:47 in reply to: Card received from HfP offer period?iamlost
Applied on 28th. Have PIN but no card. Helpline said there was a specific issue with the Avios cards and I should wait until (Good) Friday before reporting lost.
At least they’re acknowledging they have a problem now.11th April 2022 at 15:12 in reply to: Is Curve spending safe?iamlost
Are cash advance charges visibile right away on this card or are they only visible when the statement is generated? I’m gonna need to get get some foreign currency from an atm next week and was planning on using this via curve but obvs dont want to if it will trigger fees.
I’m a Curve newbie (well, I’m not, but they blocked me in 2016 and I didn’t bother unblocking until I got this card now) — if Curve pass on the transaction/merchant codes to the underlying bank, wouldn’t they know it’s a cash advance and charge the cash fee as normal?11th April 2022 at 15:07 in reply to: Is Curve spending safe?iamlost
I’ve been using it with Curve for a few days with no problems. Weirdly I cant see any Avios being collected for these transactions..
So definitely not “no problems” then… I’ve started using mine today with Curve purely to get Apple Pay support – but now I’m worried the spend won’t count to the SUB. Any other data points from people?11th April 2022 at 15:04 in reply to: Card not arrivediamlost
You have to wonder if this is principally a data gathering exercise on Barclay’s part, and that the issuing and management of a credit card isn’t that important to them.
Are you talking about the same Barclaycard that’s the number one credit card brand in the UK with 27% market share (according to a 2018 article anyway)………11th April 2022 at 10:00 in reply to: Card received from HfP offer period?iamlost
My card finally turned up today, after a 2 week wait.11th April 2022 at 09:59 in reply to: Card not arrivediamlost
Success Data Point!
Applied and accepted 28th, in app on 30th alongside Premier Account. Card arrived this morning 11th… so 10 working days or 2 weeks total for the wait.
Exactly the same for me.8th April 2022 at 09:49 in reply to: Card received from HfP offer period?iamlost
No card in today’s post either (accepted on 28th) – this is becoming a farce.6th April 2022 at 11:24 in reply to: Spending on Curve card and bonus Aviosiamlost
Where is this “bonus tracker” for avios that everyone is talking about? I’ve looked in the app and website but can’t see the tracker anywhere, unless I’m missing something!
In the Barclays app, click on the credit card, click View your Avios, and you should see your welcome bonus and yearly spending reward trackers.6th April 2022 at 11:03 in reply to: Card received from HfP offer period?iamlost
PIN arrived today but still no card!5th April 2022 at 12:20 in reply to: Card received from HfP offer period?iamlost
I would definitely call @iamlost. I applied on the first day too, waited 2 weeks for the card and then called. The lady on the phone said my card had not actually been ‘triggered’ in the system (so would have never arrived). She did that and then it arrived 2 days later
Thanks. I called and, after a half hour wait (clearly Premier means nothing anymore), I was told mine was dispatched on Thursday at 1:46pm (precise!) so should arrive any day now. Given I was accepted immediately on Monday, I’m not sure why it took 3 days to post it out but hey ho.16th March 2022 at 16:07 in reply to: Pricing options when redeeming upgrade voucheriamlost
Same behaviour on my Cabin Upgrade Voucher and a Gold Upgrade For 2 Voucher, so I assume this is how they’re intended to work (even though I’ve never seen it clearly spelled out in T&Cs).4th March 2022 at 23:27 in reply to: How long do statement credits take? Data pointsiamlost
