In the event we take our preferred flight time and one of us is back in economy, are crew realistically going to be worried about us being together in CE after take off with toddler on lap – not least as this will make life better for everyone concerned!

This could be a problem. I’m a retired BA capt and considered myself to be quite flexible when it came to upgrades. My decision making depended on whether BA were going to lose revenue as a result, and in this case, if the crew asked me if it was OK, I’d have to reluctantly say no.

Lots of pax try all sorts of tricks to get seats in a better cabin, in this case I know it’s not a trick but the situation is that by deliberately booking one parent and child into J and the other parent in M, then expecting all to sit in J, rather than booking all 3 in J is costing BA money.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but I find Travelocity (part of Expedia) significantly cheaper as their website is in the USA so you get local rates. Different insurance, I imagine, but we have an annual Questor policy so no big deal. Last December in Orlando they were just over half the price for an Avis car, compared with Avis direct or BA.

We’ve done it twice recently. We booked separately, then phoned exec club line to link the bookings, they can then seat you together.

Thanks again, had a search and just found the replacement e-voucher!

Thanks all. I have both so can use either/or, I’ll try the FTV first as that always requires a phone booking, if they can’t accept that I’ll use e-vouchers. No vouchers have Avios attached. This is going to be very useful if it works!

There were no answers to this when I first posted, however I have seen recently (can’t remember where – post covid fog probably!) that for a BA holiday it is possible to either pay the deposit online and phone to add a voucher, or just phone and book using a voucher. Someone said they had done both successfully, and got the double tier points. The reason, it would seem, is that the promotion says it is not possible to pay with a voucher online

Has anyone on here had similar success, we need to use an awful lot of vouchers!

    Thanks

I also don’t think there’s any foul play here. In my 30+ years with BA I never saw it, but what did happen was that the cabin tech log would be out of date as the information would be no newer than the previous sector. We often had engineers working on the seats until boarding. If they fixed them, the dispatcher would be made aware and the seat would become available at the last minute.

Staff pax with the appropriate cabin entitlement would commonly be given the choice of sitting in a seat unfit for commercial use (e.g. club seat doesn’t recline properly) rather than a downgrade.

And I never would have dared move a commercial pax to put my wife in her favourite seat!

What I think did happen was that Avios redemption seats were targeted for downgrades when BA’s overbooking profile went wrong, because BA thought they could get away with paying less compensation. I think (hope) that partly due to complaints though this site it is mainly a thing of the past

    Is the Clubrooms lounge closed?

BA show 3 lounges, their own in South Terminal closed, No.1 North open, Clubrooms North they show opening times, implying it’s open, but this thread suggests only No.1 available.

Gold card holder if that maks any difference.

    Thanks

So you went to the airport, didn’t bother to ask the agent what to do, paid for 5 excess bags that didn’t belong to you and lied about packing them yourself?

You quite properly could be in serious trouble. When I was flying, if it came to my attention I would have spoken to security on the sat phone and almost certainly diverted the aircraft to the nearest airport.

That comes up as £1289 which sounds more like it, thanks.
