Re AVIS breach and other posts. I had an email from Avis yesterday, never hired a car as yet but they hold my details as I took out some sort of membership highlighted on HFP some time back. On the general hire car topic I have done some work recently about CDW and having read a Which article ( yes I know they can be sketchy) a lot of the CDW sold is not only not great but £££ overpriced. They recommend Zest car Hire, having a look at renting in Aus in December they are very competitive and also their CDW is only £5 a day plus you can get TCB

Two cabin bags for £60 what would you expect other than feeling flimsy?

However, it’s a cabin bag it won’t have any real stress? I can’t imagine it not doing the job unless you plan to fill it with really heavy stuff.

Thanks for your comment, its almost helpful…as I say almost

@strickers, that’s not some sort of natural/organic stuff, is it? ‘Cos I’ve tried those and the mozzies just laugh 😂

I think it might be my O neg blood (apparently they go mad for it), but I even get bitten through my clothes!

Must be the 0 Neg blood Anna, as I’m the same, they leave my wife alone, but they love my blood, it almost gets to the stage that I need a blood transfusion, the Derek and Clive sketch “the blood donor” springs to mind 😂

Its the Essex blood they love!

    Hi everyone,

I’m seeking advice on behalf of a friend who’s in a tough situation. This summer, my friend drove from the UK to the Alps for a trip, but unfortunately, he suffered an injury while there. The hospital advised him not to drive due to his condition.

He contacted NatWest Insurance (he has their travel insurance), and they told him that he should fly back home and that they would tow his car back to the UK. Trusting this advice, he flew home, but now the insurance company is refusing to tow his car back. When he spoke to them again, they admitted that their representative did promise this and that there’s a recording of the call confirming it. However, they’re now saying it was a mistake by the rep and are refusing to follow through with the original promise.

What are his options in this situation? Can the insurer legally refuse to tow the car, even though they acknowledged the mistake? Is there anything he can do to hold them accountable for what they said over the phone?

I’d appreciate any advice or if anyone has dealt with a similar issue. Thank you!

So the company agent stated they would recover the car, surely vicarious liability comes into play here as the agent was acting for and on behalf of the insurer.

@MichaelC Interesting! They have a two for £49 offer on these which is frankly ridiculous – but at that price I’m slightly concerned about build quality 🤔

And yes, the 60L capacity of the larger carry on does seem good!

Price has increased to £59.99 when I checked, though there is a £5 pay pal spend on Amex so that helps!

Good evening. Not points related but I have booked flights to Shanghai and onto Japan next year. I know you guys are all well travelled so looking for some help planning what will be a 10/12 day stay there. My must dos are to visit Hiroshima, mount Fuji, to ride a bullet trains, but outside that I am open to suggestions. Is it best to start or end at Tokyo, and must do’s etc etc

    Thanks in advance

We only had a couple of days in Tokyo but I have to recommend Hakone – we booked an Airbnb, did the boat ride and cable car over the active volcano. We don’t usually do well-trodden touristy stuff but were there in off-season in January this year and absolutely loved it. There was a gorgeous garden in Hakone and waking up to a pink-hued serene view of Mt Fuji glistening above Lake Ashi in the morning is one of the greatest things I’ve ever experienced.

Thanks Executiveclubb the sort of thing I might not have found out about

Spend £300, get 3000 bonus Avios on Avios Hotels site (not an amex offer). Worth it!

I have a number of Hotels to book for up coming trips, is this a one off reward?

Morning all from sunny Billericay, Essex not the one in USA. Not strictly a points question but thinking of buying new 4 wheeled luggage for an upcoming trip and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. As they are at the mercy of baggage handlers I dont want to spend £££ only to have wheels broken off etc. Had a look at Tripp who seem to have an ongoing sale, any experience of these.
    Thanks in advance

A brief update. I today got a call from Barclaycard complaints 5000 points will be honoured and a £25 goodwill payment to my account. Happy days

So having received assurance that I would get £25 good will voucher and 5000 Avios Barclaycard have failed to comply with their self imposed date to put the 5000 Avios in my account. I have made another complaint regarding their failure to deal with the initial one, they are useless

@ Nick N DYOR on Travelup, and the various names it trades under.

Ditto eDreams if you come across it.

And to some extent, pretty much any OTA.

Appreciated if when or if your journey goes all wrong mid-trip or if flight reschedulings or cancellations before, mean what you booked – and paid – months before just can’t be flown, and if no help or possibility perhaps not even contactibility from OTA…. If that happens then please don’t bring it back here because options to help you will be limited or possibly zero.

Hi Lady London, I appreciate your warnings and if it did go wrong I expect no sympathy or indeed help.

Morning. Can I tag omto this please. I am doing same search but with specific dates in mind and breaking the journey up on route with few days in each place. Is there any risk using someone like Travelup to book flights?

Guys thanks for all the above. I have it in writing via the app that I would receive the £3000/5000 points bonus, I even queried it with them. as they have already not complied with their own ‘you will have a letter confirming your complaint within 5 days’ I look forward to when they will actually will acknowledge it. I will then deal with whatever they offer

Thanks for this, it is in fact 5000/£3000 spend. The last time Barclays messed up it cost them a few hundred £. Its as if they set out to do a ‘bad job’!?

I am reasonably confident that if you raise a formal complaint, you will eventually be offered a monetary value far exceeding the 500 Avios.
