I just did something similar. It seems to have worked? I matched to the equivalent of BA Bronze then changed the BA Exec number to the Royal Jordanian number on the Royal Jordanian website. Not completely clear if it’ll work though, have to see if I can select a seat for free 7 days before the flight.

Given 35k a few days ago, renewal is this month.

Exactly the same issue. Mostly Curve transactions but not Fronted.

I just accept 12k points for 1k spend in 3 months, but it looks like the 12k points have already come through anyway! Anyone else had this?

Same issue here. Voucher issued today, but expiry is 1st August 2025.

Was only offered a downgrade to the free card. Coming up to my 2 year anniversary, renewal is this month.

Recently when I asked at the desk they said I could get in 3 hours before my flight with Platinum vs 2 hours before with PP.

Still £18.50 for me. My DragonPass is from Barclays.

just paid the renewal fee. Called to ask about retention bonus and was offered 75k.

Wow that’s the highest I’ve seen. So it may be better to wait until after you’re charged the renewal fee then?

I waited after paying the fee myself recently, only 35,000 offered, and was told in straight terms that it was the best the system offered on my account. I think other factors like your original sign up bonus, bonus from referral, and if you are getting retentions offered on offer cards (I had the £3k spend 10,000 Avios offer on my BAPP few months ago and maxed on referral bonuses for the last two years

Interesting, I got the same BAPP offer last year.

What is the shortest anyone has held a plat card, and still been offered a retention bonus?

It looks like it’s 35k if requested within 6 months, 50k after 6 months and none if you had a retention bonus in the past 12 months.

I requested after just under 6 months, got nothing. After just under 12 months, I got 35k.

Sorry, I just reported this post by accident! Is there a way I can take that back?

Can confirm that foreign currency spending is included in the £5k bonuses. Already make the most out of it through company expenses.

Oh excellent, thank you! Live chat got it wrong on this ocassion I suppose!

    pelicanicecoffeeolaf 67 posts

The T&Cs don’t say foreign currency spend is excluded from the £5k bonuses, but the FX fees themselves don’t count towards the bonus. You definitely get 2MR for spend in foreign currencies (and 3MR total for airline spend in foreign currency) plus the 2,500 MR for each £5k spend up to max £25k spend.

Interesting, the FX fees I get, but the T&Cs, and what live chat told me, made it sound like foreign currency spend itself is excluded.

From T&Cs: “The following charges are not valid charges for the purpose of calculating your spend accrual towards this bonus in a given year: interest, fees (including default fees), balance transfers, cash advances (including transactions treated as cash), loading of pre-paid Cards, American Express Travellers Cheque purchases or foreign exchange transactions; and any amounts that are subsequently re-credited to your Card Account by way of refunds.”

From live chat: “It is all the foreign transactions made on the card.”

You think live chat got it wrong?

I recently asked to switch to pay monthly after being offered a 35k points retention offer. I was told I can have one or the other, not both.

    pelicanicecoffeeolaf 67 posts

No – I imagine that they are gathering data to limit future cancellations. I answered truthfully – I think the Priority Pass is generally worthless now. I’m happy to give them some data and 5mins of my time for a fistful of points.

I did mention I was disappointed that for the price of the card I only receive 1 point per £. Would be nice if they took that feedback onboard! Foreign transaction fee should also go!

Got questioned a bit before I was given a 35k retention offer. I was asked what attracted me to the card when I originally signed up and which offers and benefits I like the most.

When I asked if it is possible to switch to monthly payments, I was informed that I could either take the 35k bonus or monthly payments, not both, so that’s interesting.

Just been told via chat that chat cannot offer retentions, and you must always call. I asked them when the change of policy, but they ducked (and I didn’t want to push). Any recent experiences of getting bonus via chat – or being told likewise?

My understanding is bonus via chat (if available) likely to be same as via call – is that also right? I really can’t be bothered to phone up and have to converse with someone reading off a script.

In my experience they seemed to both be the same. Both said there are no retention offers available for me, so it seems like they’re just reading something on the system, so whether you chat or call shouldn’t matter?

In case it’s helpful additional information, I just called to see if I can change the inbound on my 241 booking to RFS (pay some more Avios, get some cash back). I was told the whole booking would have to be changed to RFS, they couldn’t change just a single flight, but besides, one of my outbound flights is in First which doesn’t allow RFS, so I couldn’t change the whole booking to RFS if I wanted to keep the flight in First, which I definitelyo do.

in reply to: BA 241 – Booking inbound post RFS
    pelicanicecoffeeolaf 67 posts

I booked an outbound from LHR to SIN pre the RFS changes with a new 2 for 1. I called up this evening to add the return leg. The agent only offered the old Avios rate (87,500) and an addition of £580 of taxes for 2 persons. The return taxes come to around £800pp which would have been the pre RFS return rate, so having one way booked pre-RFS changes seems to at least lock in taxes if the inbound is added later.

Indeed, to add to this, I just called to see if I can change the inbound on my 241 booking to RFS (pay some more Avios, get some cash back). I was told the whole booking would have to be changed to RFS, they couldn’t change just a single flight, but besides, one of my outbound flights is in First which doesn’t allow RFS, so I couldn’t change the whole booking to RFS if I wanted to keep the flight in First, which I definitelyo do.

Chat just immediately told me they have escalated it and the 3000 points I’m still waiting for will arrive in up to 25 working days, so let’s see…

I hope this works out for you. I’ve been told “next week”, “within 72 hours”, “It would have been paid next week but now it’s been escalated, the award will be delayed for 25 working days”. It’s really the most chaotic mess I’ve dealt with for many a year….

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be sure to report back. If nothing happens I’ll probably just cancel the card.

Just received 3000 Avios, 2x 1500! That’s 3 days after I asked for them, and I only asked the one time, so I’m impressed! Seems I got a lot luckier than a lot of others on here.

Can anyone advise, really simple question. Can I use two Barclays upgrade vouchers on the same trip for 2 return tickets in CW? I cannot seem to get it to play on the site, it shows the two vouchers but will only let me select one. Any help is appreciated.

I believe you would have to make two separate bookings, one per person/voucher.

Thanks for your replies. Not the end of the world just slightly frustrating. To be honest I won’t earn the final voucher for a few months so I’m considering an avios subscription as it’ll be a fair amount cheaper than buying the avios in one go and I don’t need the avios for a while. In general it sounds like avios subscription could be an appealing option for those of us who are a bit cash rich and avios poor with the new Long haul RFS policy…

Perhaps, I was actually just reading this old article: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/04/13/what-is-the-cheapest-way-to-buy-avios-points-3/

The idea of buying and transferring hotel points sounds intriguing.
