SeaJets seem to have put up their fares a bit compared to last year.

The owner of the company now owns the third biggest football team in Athens, so he needs to fund this venture somehow! Just a joke (?) between greek football fans

Agreed, unless you have a family to entertain, mixing up with locals is less expensive and also far more authentic as an experience. Going to leave the rest of places unmentioned, thought that Koufonisia was already well known by now! The places that are not served by international airports are definitely better to our experience while living in the UK or Greece (in the past).

Naxos will eventually become what Paros is now. Paros nowadays has become what Mykonos used to be 10-20 years ago.

Next up will be Koufonisia and the smaller Cycladic islands.

Btw, if you can get hold of a greek Vodafone SIM card, there is a promo for tickets via Blue Star Ferries. Hellenic seaways run a similar promo with another network, Cosmote.

FYI, the slow ferries are a lot slower than the fast jets, although they allow you to be outside during sailing, apart from the extra time required to transit from the airport to the port either via metro/bus. Rafina or Peireus really depends on your own circumstances.

Enjoy whatever you will choose to book 🙂

Just jumping on the back of this post, are there direct flights to Naxos, or is it a fly via somewhere else destination, and then arrive by ferry?

Either fly via Athens with Aegean/Olympic Air or take a taxi/bus to the nearest port (Rafina) and sail from there to Naxos (roughly 3.30-4h via fast seajet).

You are essentially looking into getting in one of the least well connected islands, yet one of the best to experience. This means that you will either have to compromise on a ferry trip or a smaller aircraft. I would go with the latter to save time and enjoy the island and its relaxed festive spirit.

I would not attempt taking a fast ferry journey because the sail to Ikaria is in more open waters in the Aegean sea. As a result, it can be rather exciting with the high winds especially if you are easily getting sea sick.

    https://www.barclays.co.uk/current-accounts/switch-offer/#termandconditions

1.2 Download the Barclays app, use it to apply for and open a sole Premier Current Account (Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria applies)

You do not need to join Blue rewards if you open a premier account. Join avios rewards and I am pretty certain this will be a double bonus (cash and Avios).

I opened a Premier account and then switched my account into it. I got both bonuses, first the cash and then 25k avios after 4 months. If you search the forum, others had the same bonuses too.

    PIL 124 posts

Last time this was running not so long ago, you could double dip by getting the cash and the avios. I was happy to see both being credited in my account.

I very much doubt they will ever run a bigger promotion given that Rob has already mentioned that this attracts the least desirable/profitable group of customers.

There is no better time to visit Athens than mid August. It will be quieter and better for you to enjoy. Spend a couple of days around the historic places there.
Take a day trip or overnight stay in Delphi and then visit a few places in Peloponnese. There is so much history around all those places and you can also relax on the beach.

Oh yes and how good is Naxos is best to remain a secret!

Indeed, 25% on top of the 25% bonus Avios sweetened the deal of transferring early 🙂

No bonus points for me yet. Transferred on 6th June, so very nearly 14 days. Will be putting in a complaint with HSBC on Friday if I haven’t received, as I need the extra to make a booking! Last year it took 1-2 hours, never more than 24. This year I havent yet seen anyone saying they have received the bonus yet.

Within 48h of complaint: complaint closed. Full £££ cost (as per ba.com’s buy avios prices) of cost of 25% bonus avios not received refunded to my account.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. HSBC do make probably more mistakes than most. But they are very good at resolving them, which is why I put up with them!

Who did you contact? Was it the customer service line?

That was the advice received by the chat advisor in the HSBC app.

Algbra is brilliant, 1.5% cashback on all Apple Pay and google pay transactions, even abroad.

Email sent today by Algbra says that the offers ends soon.

The T&Cs that another person posted last week say explicitly that it will be after 14 days. This offer is up less than 10 days

Immigration authorities (all across the world and regardless of citizenship) can question you on where you have been prior to entering a country.

Having been to a few countries abroad, this is a fairly common question prior to allowing entry

Ikos are worth it even if they are family friendly. Still enough space and experiences to please adults too

Sani, Olivia in Halkidiki are worth visiting. There are others in Greece and Spain too

Resurrecting this – What are thoughts around staying in Glyfada instead of Athens? Or Glyfada instead of one of the nearer islands suggested above? I’ve potentially up to 6 nights

Glyfada is a nice place in Attica (not considered as city of Athens). There is connection via tram with central Athens and Lagonisi is also nearby (although quite expensive).

I would still prefer one of the nearby islands though instead of Athens/Peireus.

They already have a card with zero fx fees. Had a similar email today about the new card, but OH did not because most likely they send them out in batches. I am waiting to see what the offer will be and whether it will be meaningful in the overall card strategy.

I think from the email it will have a £0 fee, but that’s all we know so far

I would not recommend the trip from the Athens airport to either Skyros or Skiathos, as it is with small planes and at not very reasonable prices, unless you cannot tolerate the drive and ferry/speed jet.

Which island out of the 4 are you planning to visit? It is worth looking into driving to Volos via the main motorway, which is a smoother ride than going through all the roads in Evoia, and spend some time in the local seaside meze restaurants with tsipouro. Then you can take the fast jet to Skiathos/Skopelos/Allonisos.

Also, if you are planning on taking a rental to the islands, I do not think any company permits this unless you request for permission (and most will decline)
