Thank you. And perhaps an obvious one, but can you get the sign up for R+ card if you have downgraded to the free card at least 6 months before?

Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this? Is 6 months all you have to leave it to reopen? About to cancel my Reward+ so welcome any other data points.

If he’s not held an amex then first he can get the nectar amex which has a lower income threshold and doesn’t preclude from a sign up bonus later with the MR or BA cards. Although it’s only 20k nectar points which is 12500 avios, it only requires 2 grand spend to unlock the bonus.

I tried today by first asking to confirm that I won’t lose my MR points because I have the blue MR card which I recently got in order to show I will likely cancel. They advised me to transfer to avios as they said I might lose the points. This was a surprise – can others confirm you don’t lose MR points as long as you have the gold or blue card?

I have spent £40-45k in LTM, much more in previous years when it was my main card before, and i have had the platinum card since 2022. I was offered 25k MR points if I spend £5k in 3 months. I said I was disappointed and did not take up the offer. I’ll probably try again in a while (currently have to hit SUB targets on new BAPP).

It seems there are times of the year when the retention offer is better from reading some of the posts. Has anyone got a view on this?

    Thansk!

The following line is just a clarification of subject to availability. I have 100% success rate of upgrades to suites even as Premium so with VIP it should be better, but obviously isn’t as I’m sure there were just too many status holders.

I never had a suite as a Premium, neither has my wife AFAIK (who does more Radisson stays than me, mainly Hamburg Airport). Can’t even remember a report from anyone who got one, which is why we are so neutral about it in our ‘are the Amex hotel statuses worth having?’ article.

I mean, let’s be serious here.

Premium requires THREE STAYS. That’s it. Three stays in a year, or five nights. You could do a one night stay every 4 months and still earn Premium. No hotel is dishing out suites to anyone with that level of ‘loyalty’.

Not surprised, although as a datapoint I did manage an upgrade to a 2 bed suite in Dubai with Premium through Amex plat in Q1 2024, which was much to my surprise and very welcome as I did not request anything.

That must be before they opened the floodgates to VIP status.

Indeed, was around this time last year (2024).
