We have booked Sofia for our 5n HOL run, history buffs, and following some of JDB’s recent forays around the area. Thanks JDB for the tips.
Before that a CE return to Bordeaux, a necessary trip, as opposed to the TP run as it originally was. So, as you say, not bad for just under 2 years silver. Plus had a few TPs from a Dublin trip, so all square with 5 pts to spare. Whew…. The lengths we go to, us lot.27th September 2022 at 21:19 in reply to: The Malaysia and KL master threadpolly
We are at the Edison in Nov for a few days. The E and O is fantastic also. Breakfast on the open terrace with sea view is so lovely.
Re KK to PEN, did that lots of times bypassing KL, to get home with QR. Those were the days when we cancelled F 241s to KUL for a J ex eu QR sale fare to PEN etc. how we wish we had those options again.
Sandakan interesting too, war grave memorial, eco lodge trips down the river. Sabah hotel really nice, huge pool, v reasonable, if not using points.27th September 2022 at 21:06 in reply to: Upgrade Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card to Platinumpolly
Ours went from PRG to Plat today. Have the green one also, so thought it might upgrade that instead, but didn’t. Showing as plat tonight.. unreal speed. Planning the foreign dining spend in Singapore in November, then next tranche in Phuket in Feb. Hopefully.27th September 2022 at 21:00 in reply to: Fees for currency exchange in UKpolly
Got some forex in the post office recently using Amex bonvoy. Only marginally worse than John Lewis. No extra fees charged. Just went through as post office counters. Same as paying car tax l guess. Have done it a few times, as not all small places take curve cards abroad.24th September 2022 at 04:02 in reply to: Qatar flights to Asia – BAEC or Privilege clubpolly
Yep, stick with BAEC, get those precious 560 TPs, and then reach for silver soon as.19th September 2022 at 09:17 in reply to: Tips to hit Amex Platinum £6,000 spend targetpolly
Wow @Wally, that has to be a record lowest dd for energy.. l thought l was doing well with £5.
It also might be worth swallowing a billhop payment if a bill needed, to get you there if the aim was to cancel quickly. We have used it before to get a 241 done sooner, for an F redemption. Definitely worth it for that. But really, supermarket gift cards incl petrol can eat up quite a bit of it. Am sure you will make the spend.
One final thing l did was gifted my OH some money via PayPal. Birthday, gifts anything. As a one off it’s fine under F&F.17th September 2022 at 07:49 in reply to: 85 points needed for Silverpolly
Bordeaux 200 pp from LGW return in CE, with 80 off using avios, approximately, is one we are doing to top ours up.. also doing the SOF holiday DPs. Worth it for silver til end Sept 24.16th September 2022 at 21:50 in reply to: Tips to hit Amex Platinum £6,000 spend targetpolly
BT via PayPal, and EE take Amex directly.. BT refund your extra at regular intervals btw. Into the direct debit bank account. As do infinity. Plus get pre pay Pay Point cards for other utility bills, eg Affinity, tv license..pay at the co op or similar terminals, if you have the time. With Octopus, they will let you keep a basic £5 direct debit. Supermarket gift cards really are great, esp where you get your petrol….Amazon invaluable too…even if l object to their values… and always search for the paypal option on online shopping….16th September 2022 at 21:24 in reply to: Paying off Amexpolly
Bendy not cutting it with HKG anymore, sadly. We are all having to suck it up now, annoyingly. We too had some huge spend last couple of months, now stuck with Amex or Marriot points only…11th September 2022 at 15:06 in reply to: The HSBC Premier Mastercards threadpolly

Yep, just read my email too. Mine were limited to my euro cash withdrawals via bendy. And of course feeding the seagulls with bendy also. Shame. Hadn’t managed to get round to using it for other feeds.
But, it’s the new points portal that has tightened all this up, am afraid… as you say, good innings. Only had metal for 1 year sadly. So missed out on a lot!8th September 2022 at 06:45 in reply to: 160 tier point routes (prior to any holiday x2 bonuses) run from Heathrowpolly
Second what @Londonsteve says. We are doing our 5 day TP trip there too. Looking forward to our wandering w history lessons. We are both big history buffs. Have printed off your guides! Plus a shorter trip to IST. We hired professional guides also around Antalya. They were all trained archaeologists. So knowledgeable. Fascinating region. My OH had studied our guide’s father’s book at uni. Amazing coincidence.
That’s us sorted for Silver again til end of September 24. Thankfully.
How good is this site!8th September 2022 at 06:22 in reply to: The HSBC Premier Mastercards threadpolly
You just submit the paperwork, and keep spending on the WE. Are you already into your 2nd year with fee charged or still in your 1st bonus year? No pro rata refund tho. Might as well keep it, if fee already paid. Unless they agreed to refund you after the downgrade, on the phone. Quite tricky, hsbc.8th September 2022 at 06:17 in reply to: I cancelled an Avios flight – what happens next?polly
Really @BJ ? It’s 1k days now since l did that avios canc, and no sign of either.. weird. Will call them.7th September 2022 at 21:52 in reply to: I cancelled an Avios flight – what happens next?polly
You will get an email tomorrow from baec explaining that your refund will be processed in the next 14 days. That’s what we got last week. No sign of avios yet. If not, after 14 days time to phone in. I know someone waiting since March for their money, but avios returned straight away….7th September 2022 at 21:49 in reply to: BA – re-routing options following flight cancellationpolly
Absolutely agree re Qatar J seats. Even their older J cabins are almost on a par with BA F. If Chris is on CX to HKG, he would have a good chance of the transit option, if CX through check his bags. Agree it’s a big risk atm. But this big financial world leadership gathering 2/3 November is possibly making them speed up their opening. Regardless of what China wants, it seems. So we might get some loosening up, even if it means better transit rules. We are not accepting an alternative flight until we see what happens in the next month or two. They did offer some of the options @BJ mentioned. It is a bummer with flights booked ages ago, in the hopes that HKG would open up same time as SIN.
Some good debates over on BT from the HKG based folks. Hope Chris gets it sorted to his satisfaction.7th September 2022 at 19:19 in reply to: Singapore and where else?polly
We are tagging on Bali, then MH J up to Penang. Phuket next time plus Bali. Air Asia from SIN to DPS this time. All 3 locations great. Canggu beaches great, neat little eats around there….pretty low key and clean.7th September 2022 at 19:13 in reply to: The HSBC Premier Mastercards threadpolly
Did you actually transfer any points with this link. And achieve a bonus? I searched for a link, no joy. No banner, either….
@youllnever. To downgrade is a totally new application, am afraid. They will post you the forms. Complete them, and bring them into the branch to get them scanned into their system. Or as @sm did, they should be able to print off the form in branch now. It really is an ancient system, but can be worth it.7th September 2022 at 19:04 in reply to: BA – re-routing options following flight cancellationpolly
We are in the same position as you, and @SamG and HKIA has advised us of the current transit rules. It should get better by beginning of November to allow these world bankers to arrive without Quarantine x 3days.
BA have also cancelled ours on Nov 21st. Same situation as you, pleaded with them to allow us to fly from SIN. No joy. We are already in KUL, so would have been so easy to nip down to SIN. 300 mile rule. Have HUACA x 4 now.
CX J from KUL to HKG also moved to the day before. BA could send us back that same night, but like others have stated HKG transit on the SAME PNR was mandatory. I think @SamG thinks that we would be ok as CX are v good at interlining bags on different OW flights. We hope so. Also once you have the onward BP.
Am waiting to see will they open up HKG in the next few weeks, for the bankers and the Rugby on later in Nov. Fingers crossed. We don’t want or need to stay overnight there, just arrive, lounge, The Pier or Wing, then get on that plane. CX fly the same time as BA do. QR would suit too.
But, we have booked a back up flight. An aVios 300k OW F to DUB via LHR/LGW back on MH (not available to LHR, only LHR via DUB, weird!) if we can’t get transit in HKG, if we had to take the refund, then go to MCOL for the avios and cash difference. Obvs we can’t use our new 241 from KUL, either. Wonder if this is now a feasible plan, having read your note @JDB
Sorry @Chris to piggyback off your issue, but ours is just a month ahead of your dates. Optimist or what? Opinions on here sooo useful. Thanks all.6th September 2022 at 22:13 in reply to: The HSBC Premier Mastercards threadpolly
The BA logo would pop up when you logged in, but would then disappear. No avios uplift atm. And it’s not every year either, am afraid, and definitely not a given. Etihad may be their only airline promo this year, who knows…1st September 2022 at 22:16 in reply to: The HSBC Premier Mastercards threadpolly1st September 2022 at 22:10 in reply to: BA Holidays Double Points offer – MASTER THREADpolly
Thanks for that. When l log in, it asks me to add a hotel, add a car, guess they really don’t mean make a holiday of then!1st September 2022 at 14:44 in reply to: BA Holidays Double Points offer – MASTER THREADpolly
Should know this. But can anyone help please? We have a return flight only booked for 5n. Late September. If we now add a car for this trip, does that turn it into a BA holiday? We don’t usually book BA holistic not used to the process. It’s that or a 1.5 hr cab each way, price is the same. Car hire v reasonable. Be handy if we got double TPs. TIA for info.1st September 2022 at 13:23 in reply to: BA Holidays Double Points offer – MASTER THREADpolly
2 quick 5 day trips in Dec, 160 DTP cities, if no QR J sale to Asia pops up in the meantime. To catch the 450 deadline.
Hawaii sounds amaaaazing.1st September 2022 at 13:10 in reply to: Chat thread – Thursday 1st Septemberpolly
Think EJ won’t want the actual hassle of the rebook. They may well be quite happy for you to do this, pay upfront and claim it back. Know BA were relieved when l said l would do this with EJ in July (tho still waiting for my refund!) the FR alternative sounds very reasonable to me, and l think MCOL would agree! After all, you are the one inconvenienced.
