17th February 2022 at 15:08 in reply to: LAX to JFK on American Airlines – Does this earn Tier Points?
Rhys
HfP StaffActually, you now earn the same number of tier points flying AA as you would on BA, as of 1st Jan.
Rhys
HfP StaffI’ll be doing this in two weeks.
If you’re in Thailand for less than 5 days you don’t have to do the Day 5 test. You can do your Day 5 test/quarantine at a completely different hotel.
15th February 2022 at 12:43 in reply to: Is there a realistic way of paying my rent with a CC and get points?Rhys
HfP StaffNot really, no, unless you rent from one of those big corporate renting companies that might accept card.
To pay bank transfers by card you can use Billhop but it charges a fee: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/03/27/how-does-billhop-work/
Rhys
HfP StaffWell this is interesting as IHG came back to my query. Quicker than expected stating
“ I received your email about Creations Finance that is no longer our list of providers. Partnership with Creations Finance and IHG Rewards has ended effective October 1, 2021. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you. Should you need further assistance in regard to this matter, you may contact Creation Customer Service at 0371-376-9214.”
FYI IHG reached out to us to let us know that this is incorrect – Creation IS still a partner of IHG.

HfP StaffThanks everyone. Anyone have bookings for LA, Tokyo and Boston?

11th February 2022 at 17:28 in reply to: What taxes did you pay on long haul Avios redemptions in 2021?Rhys
HfP StaffAre you really just after the BA surcharges rather than APD, airport fees and proper government taxes levied in other countries?
Nope, the whole lot. Ie. the cash portion of the fare

HfP StaffYes only return please!
11th February 2022 at 14:53 in reply to: Costa Rica travel recommendations and adviceRhys
HfP StaffDon’t expect to go to Costa Rica on a budget. It is really quite pricey especially compared to Asia, although it is worth it, in my opinion.
Lots of good advice here. I would only add that it is well worth heading to the Osa peninsula and exploring the Corcovado. Cut off form the rest of the country – feels like a different world, and much less developed. Was a highlight on my trip a few years ago. The easiest way to get there is via speed boat.
9th February 2022 at 13:46 in reply to: Reward Flight Finder Spam / Unsubscribe Doesn’t WorkRhys
HfP StaffPlus it’s the principle of it – the unsubscribe option should work, one click, done. The fact that it doesn’t makes them look like a scam outfit 😉
Technically it’s in contravention of privacy laws too, I think….
Rhys
HfP StaffI can do a quick search on Cirium by aircraft type etc so could actually pull this together quite quickly. Might make a good article.

HfP Staff+1. It’s the only decent one. The SFO one is a Plaza Premium affair and isn’t brilliant. Their cheese selection needs a good shake-up!
All the non-UK ones are Plaza Premium managed now. https://www.headforpoints.com/2021/07/16/virgin-atlantic-hands-over-clubhouse-lounges-to-plaza-premium/
4th February 2022 at 15:31 in reply to: Are there any Menzies Aviation strike updates?Rhys
HfP StaffLooks like their have been productive talks in the past few days. Unite is going back to ballot its members.
4th February 2022 at 14:34 in reply to: Amex Platinum Insurance for Thailand Test&Go Pass?Rhys
HfP StaffFab, thank you! Just wanted to double check. Where/how did you contact AXA?
Rhys
HfP StaffYou should get an email when the status match completes with instructions.
2nd February 2022 at 15:10 in reply to: Loss of compensation using a BA codeshare [when its not an EU airline]Rhys
HfP StaffThe problem isn’t the codeshare, the problem is that non-EU/UK airlines do not have to comply with EU261 regs on inbound flights (they do on outbound, though).
Tried posting in the chat thread, got “Captha’d” for the first time ever!
You didn’t get captchad, your post just got flagged for moderation I think? The two are distinct.
Rhys
HfP StaffBA uses Menzies to tank its aircraft. On short haul this is manageable – just fill up at the other end – so likely to cause more problems on long haul. Not sure what they are doing to minimise the impact. Not clear if Swissport could pick up the slack.
Rhys
HfP StaffEmail says water and snacks to stay- so like terrible Lufthansa, but the Mail have it mentioning cold and hot drinks?
Is BA bringing back adult drinks in EuroTrash?
‘In an open letter to customers, Sean Doyle said they will be entitled to a free snack, bottle of water and array of hot and cold drinks – perks that were axed on short-haul flights six years ago’
You can buy on board.
Nothing in the email was new information – they announced water and snacks were permanent in July – but lots of the press seem to think it is a new commitment. Same with Speedbird becoming Buy on Board too – been around for a while.
Rhys
HfP StaffI bumbled into a little place called Casa Alfonoso one evening and loved it!
Rhys
HfP StaffExpressTest have a number of locations throughout the city. Always great service.
Rhys
HfP StaffNot to pry too much but what are your plans to cover the test and go requirements? Stay in Bangkok for 5 days or book into a sha++ hotel in another location?
Bangkok for day 1 and elsewhere for day 5.
Rhys
HfP StaffWas Calgary seasonal pre-covid?
I wouldn’t hold my breath, to be honest. Going forward, aircraft and crew are going to be the limiting factor on which routes BA chooses to relaunch. All those 747s that were retired in 2020 haven’t really been replaced.
28th January 2022 at 14:46 in reply to: Choice of lounge at T5? Galleries North or South?Rhys
HfP StaffMy fave is always T5B. So much quieter, and a good opportunity to stretch your legs on the underground walkway.
Rhys
HfP StaffWhy not just cancel the return now?
