I had a similar situation, cancelled Barclays CC in June and therefore not eligible.

That is often and I am sure that I missed some at the time probably Aug 22.

Now that statement credit offers for Morrisons have dried up this is useful especially when getting 20% and perhaps 10% on another quota in return for £4.95 per month.

And I don’t understand why they are giving me money like this, but am very happy to accept it.

There was one on 6th Sep 2022 and nothing in August
I guess they give us money to attract more customers while getting investments from venture capital and potential IPO.
Don’t expect it to continue forever but take it while its available 😀

1. You need to have held the gold card for a year according to the Amex personnel I spoke to. This is something others here have also heard. Worth noting the t&cs don’t say this (or didn’t when I last checked).
2. The offer is 20k points now, as JDB mentions.

Isn’t the offer 20k now?

That is what I saw in the app. On second look it says ‘up to’ and there are 2 bonuses, first after first transaction and second after spending £500. Its not clear to me what is the split. I got £30 (20 + 10) back in Feb when I opened my account.

another angle to look at
lets say I have a £10k 0% for 24 month, spend £10k in the first year and hold it for year 2
in year 2 you could get £500 (5% 1yr fix) risk free without additional spending, so this wouldn’t compete with your reward card spend

I did it yesterday, in the app there was an option to upgrade, you can see the questions there (you will have to confirm before you proceed with the actual upgrade)
It asked what is your net monthly salary and annual gross salary. since my net monthly was higher than £3330 required I adjusted the gross slightly upwards to 75k (not sure if this is necessary) and was upgraded instantly.
Unfortunately I cancelled my Barclaycard 3.5 month ago and wont be able to get 100k avios

if your Barclays account receives more than £3330 per month (which is a lot less than 75k gross) you can upgrade to Premier in the app
