I am having to write to Hilton to formally complain about not retaining Gold this year. I may as well include the late issue of points issue, is this what you refer to @RussellH?

    Yes.

I seem to have got my Gold status for this year. Certainly there was a flag on my account yesterday stating “You’re keeping your Gold staus in 2023”

And I have now got my January points too.

My OH called them last year about his avios BC not turning up. He got through but it was an odd call, with them accusing him of not being who he said he was, and then insisting he had never applied for such a card. Online chat just gives you the same automated messages over and over again and the agents who answer emails tell you that they can’t discuss anything due to data protection. The only time I got complete sense out of them was when I wrote to head office but I’ve avoided having any kind of contact with them since then!

In my experience, writing, and using Royal Mail Signed For, so that they know that you can check if the letter arrived, is the only way to get a meaningful response out of Barclaycard CS. And if the matter is serious enough to warrant a formal complaint letter, demand financial compensation. £50 as a minimum.
I received 2×£50 last year, and my running total since 2013 must be approaching £500 by now
    🙂

In my experience – including with this offer – triple points post with the main points. Never had them appear later.

OK, I shall claim for missing points, then.

in reply to: Barclaycard Hilton Honors card – worth keeping?
    RussellH

Yes, but it’s not like they are not awarded in the end plus when that happens if you complain, you’ll get compensation meaning they are actually paying you for keeping the card.

True, although in my experience, finding someone who can actually deal with that rather than send you back to Hilton, can be rather time-consuming. And after my recent experiences of trying to deal with Barclaycard on the phone, I think I’ve lost the will to follow it up. But I now have three months of points no-shows over the last year, so I suppose I ought to…

Write them a formal complaint letter. Send it Royal Mail signed for, so that they know that you know it has been delivered.
Ask for at least £50 compensation for their having messed you about, plus a refund of the postage.

This works – twice in 2022.

Just seen the above comments. I had given up expecting a response as there was nothing for three weeks after I asked the question.

So many thanks for the advice. I see that only premium rooms at 120 000 points a night are now available for my dates, so I am content that I got the booking when I did.

I’ve been offered £25 cash by Barclaycard on this but they steadfastly refuse to commit to a date for the actual points.

How did you contact them to be offered this £25?

I write to them by Royal Mail Signed For, referring to the total of £400 of compensation I received between 2013 and 2019 for a number of cases of missing points on both IHG and Hilton credit cards that were / are operated by Barclays

Only £25? Tell them that you know of at least one cardholder who has twice received £50 this year as compensation for poor CS in connection with missing points.

Things are looking as though I shall be asking for more than that next year, unless November’s points start to appear very soon!

in reply to: Bank account switching – Co-Op bank bonus
    RussellH

I swore to myself back in 2006 following the death of my father that I would never again have any dealings with the Co-op Bank.
The CS was utterly appalling – the worst followed the death of my father: we had a joint a/c with them as executors of my mother’s estate.
(Dad was a great fan of the Co-op Bank). When I phoned to tell them that he had died and I would accordingly be operating the account on my own, they initially refused to talk to me as I did not know the telephone PIN – Dad had never told me about it.
Once I got around that, their specialist department for dealing with deceased customers blythely informed me that as one of the executors had died, I would have to “apply for probate again”.

That was the final straw – I had had any number of issues with them before that.

I think there is only one other company who I have had such appallingly bad service from – BT.
They make Barclaycard and Creation seem half competent.

4 transactions so far (1 Sun, 3 Wed).
Not all places on the map, but all did have a shop small sign on the door.
    1 e-mail (on Wed).
    0 payments.

The e-mail states “Your £5 statement credit is being processed and should appear on your
statement within 30 days, although it could take up to 90 days.”

Always used to be 5 days, not 30 days….

Points arrived at my account just now

    And mine…

Hilton seems to have completely disappeared from the AmEx site now.

Hilton is the first hotel listing of the three here.

    Also no points from Barclaycard

I do not think that anyone has had them yet.

I suspect that while they would normally arrive on 2nd of the month, this is delayed because of the weekend and no data run.

is it a safe bet to assume that points not posting is a Barclaycard issue and not a Hilton issue?

    Yes.

My points transfer date has also moved, from 23rd/24th historically, to now 2nd of the following month. Last 2 months August and September.

I was told over the phone from a Barclaycard Complaint Handler that following a “reconfiguring of the Hilton Honors system”, points will now be awarded early in the month following the award: ie July points arrive in August and August points in September. Both months points actually arrived on 2nd of the month.

I have been expecting them to be later this month, because 1/10 and 2/10 were a Sat + a Sun, which presumably delays batch data runs.

    RussellH

Well spotted! it`s 2.6 not 2.00……I might play at that price.

200 MR points transferred yesterday after reading about this. 520 HH points received today.

As to September points, I was expecting them today, since the last two months have been on the 2nd, but 1 Oct + 2 Oct were over a weekend. But they really ought to turn up later today or tomorrow.

    [Edit]

Now a banner on Amex site, offer valid until 3 November.

    RussellH

Yes my August HH statement points posted late yesterday afternoon (Fri 2nd) as well -just like last months scenario ended
After what RussellH and his chat with this b/card ‘complaints’ investigator had to say last bank holiday Monday it seems that finally we’re getting somewhere into resolving this ongoing points fiasco (maybe somebody’s feathers have been ruffled ,or should I say Russelled (ha-ha) over at b/card)

Just read your response to my 30 Aug post.

No, I am still missing my June points, but I have it in writing that they will transfer to HH together with my September points, ie in early October.

The woman I spoke to insisted on doing it this way both in April for my January points and this time for my June points.

If/when I have to contact her again, I shall mention the fact that some people have had their missing points transferred more quickly.

    RussellH

    From Hargreaves-Lansdown:-

“IHG is working to fully restore all systems as soon as possible and to assess the nature, extent and impact of the incident,” it said. “We will be supporting hotel owners and operators as part of our response to the ongoing service disruption. IHG’s hotels are still able to operate and to take reservations directly.”

A further update will be provided as and when appropriate.

    RussellH

I have written quite a lot about my HH points over the last few months, so I do not recall exactly what I posted on 30 Aug.
Not made any easier by there being this thread on the subject as well as the one called “Hilton credit card delay in points posting” under “Other payment cards”.
One thing that was made very clear to me was that points are now always going to be credited at the beginning of the month after that in which they are earned.
So July points posting early Aug and Aug points posting early September is what is now supposed to happen.
This is part of the IT tweak that caused people to miss out on their June points.
I would urge anyone still missing June points to make a Formal Complaint to B’card and request real compensation. I have had £100 (2x£50) this year.
If they end up paying enough, they might really take action.

does anyone know how the barclaycard and hilton accounts are linked together? I have been trying for about a year to get to the bottom of this. Had about 300k spend on barclaycard over past year. No points ever appeared anywhere. Nobody can help. No one at barclaycard or hilton know the process.

Officially they do know the process. I have been told that it was re-vamped in June this year. But it is still not right, as the re-vamp caused a number of us not to be the points issued in June.

in reply to: Chase credit cards
    RussellH

I had a Chase branded Visa card back in the 1980s.
The main reason for getting it was because back then I had difficulties in parts of the USA with people looking at the name on the card and rejecting it when they had never heard of the issuing bank – all paper slips and manual imprinters, no terminals.
IIRC Chase pulled out of the uK during the early 1990s recession and sold their card customers to GiroBank.

Just a quick update for anyone expecting the imminent demise of the Hilton Barclaycard, my new card just arrived this morning… with a 07/27 expiry date!

Got my new one a month ago, but “only” 04/27 as exp date.
    🙂

More useful is the second £50 compensation this year for their seriously bad CS and ongoing points delays.

Since Feb 2017 I have had £175 compensation on my HH Barclaycard.
Before that, when Barclays did the IHG card as well, between Dec 2014 and March 2016 I got £375 compensation for their inability to get the number of points right.

I would have hoped that paying out compensation would persuade them to train their CS staff better.
The problem, it would seem to be from what I was told last week by one of Barclaycard’s Specialist Claims Handlers is that while CS people have access to all the info they need on their computers, they seem not to use it. Probably they are under time pressure which stops them doing so.

I shall be keeping my HH Barclaycard, along with my Marriott and IHG MasterCards from Creation, as long as they survive. Hotel points are far more useful to us than avios.

    RussellH

My Formal Complaint was signed for on Monday.
Usual follow up is an acknowledgement letter just saying that they will look into it and giving the date by which they promise to make a response.
No post received so far this week, though.
