I tried using at IC Miami last week, didn’t work and reception unwilling to help. Told me to call IHG Customer Services which I haven’t done yet.

It doesn’t seem to be very customer friendly.

I have a similar situation – flew LHR to SYD with Qantas and also SYD to WLG return. Those 3 flights credited.

Return SYD to LHR not credited, put in a claim and it’s been rejected! I’ve put in another claim and if that doesn’t sort, I’ll call up.

I need the 240 TP to trigger my GUF voucher, so will be pursuing.

You don’t earn Avios & TP on a reward booking – companion voucher or not applied.

What has happened a few times in recent years is folks having rebooked flights due to COVID and these earned Avios / TP, presumably due to the rebooking process and class of booking applied to the new flight. Of course, mistakes also sometimes slip through due to IT issues on regular reward bookings. I’ve had both happen and took it as a bonus every time.

If it happens, result. If it doesn’t, you haven’t lost anything.

I’m in Singapore now, transiting through to SYD.

Only had 2 hours stopover so as BA gold I went to the Qantas First lounge and had a quick shower then snack before heading back to my flight.

The Qantas First lounge, if you are eligible, is up the escalators across from the Gucci store. Not sure where the business lounge is, sorry.

Just to add a couple of positive experiences from me recently, albeit on the Gold line…..

I called them yesterday to change my return Avios booking MIA to LHR to Club World as availability appeared. Done & dusted in 10 mins – very efficient.

I also called them early January to bag 4 x Avios club world for Barbados, just before midnight. Seats reserved instantly and then 10 mins on the phone completing the booking.

Both times done in 1 call and Avios / taxes right first time.

It said renew by August 2nd, so I’m guessing that although I didn’t see any other ‘renewal’ date listed anywhere.

I just renewed today. Status updated to 31st Dec 2024.

When I logged into my account, at the home page where it lists your status I had a link saying ‘renew now’.

Someone posted that they’d renewed Ambassador early – anyone know how this is done? I’m now within the 92 day period but when I go to the joining page I just get a message saying my membership is current.

Thanks for this, I can see both options when I log in. I’m going to purchase points in the plan to use them for our stay during Paris 2024 Olympics.

Great trip report, thanks for typing up!

We have 4 weeks in Florida coming up this summer. You are right about prices for everything being on the rise. You have to wonder when it will hit a ceiling. I’ve been to the US 4 times with work since our last holiday there last summer, and each time it seems to be more expensive. Not too bad when you are on expenses, but painfully tough when you are paying for 2 teenage girls!

in reply to: Not many offers on BA Premium Plus anymore?
    Scottpat78 238 posts

I have 72 on BAPP and 23 on Plat. I have 12 saved across both, still a lot not relevant to me which is the norm I find.

That is less offers than normal but the ratio between the 2 cards is normal for me. Always found to have ~⅓ of offers on my Plat compared to BAPP.

Just received this, looks like this will sort itself….

    ======

When you use your Global Money Account debit card to withdraw money from HSBC cash machines, we shouldn’t charge you a fee.

We’ve discovered a problem that results in us charging a fee when you withdraw cash at HSBC cash machines in Australia and Greece. We’re working on fixing this as soon as possible. The same issue in Argentina, Canada, Mexico and USA has already been resolved.

As you’ve been incorrectly charged since opening your account, we’re sending you £10 to compensate you for each incorrect fee. We’ve worked out that our payment of £10 for each incorrect fee is more than the incorrect fee itself so you won’t be out of pocket.

We’ll be paying this directly into your Global Money Account within the next five working days and it will show as HSBC Refund on your statement in British Pounds (GBP Sterling).

If you’re going to any of the countries affected before the issue is fixed, we’ll ensure any incorrect fees are compensated in the same way. You don’t need to do anything else.

The kids had a twin deluxe on floor 14 whilst we had a king exec on floor 22. I am Diamond and we got all 4 of us access into the lounge and free breakfast whilst checking in. The reception staff were great.

Had a good stay – nothing spectacular but a lot better than I feared after reading this review at the start of the week. I hope you get your cert sorted for the issues you had.

Checked in here earlier – 2 rooms and upgraded on both.

Twin deluxe for kids and King exec for us.

Both rooms spotless and so far, lounge and Cloud23 very good.

Hotel is fully booked tonight but lounge right now is less than 20% full. Managed to grab a cheap 2 x points rate for both rooms so a fair result so far.

Thanks for the heads up. If I receive anything, I’ll update in here.

Just withdrew some AUD$ in Sydney from an HSBC branch ATM.

I was charged AUD$5 for the transaction, which I didn’t think would happen at an HSBC ATM. It is advertised as fee free.

Am not sure when but note the Global Money FAQ now says:

*There is a problem with us charging a fee when you withdraw cash at HSBC cash machines in the following countries: Australia and Greece. The issue in Argentina, Mexico, USA and Canada has already been resolved. We’re working on fixing the remaining cash machines as soon as possible. If you’ve been impacted we’ll be getting in touch to give you a refund. There is no need to contact us. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Rob’s article does make this clear:

Can I get the sign-up bonus if I have a British Airways American Express card?

Yes. The rule is that you will not receive a sign-up bonus if you have held a Platinum, Gold or Green American Express charge card, or the Amex Rewards credit card, in the 24 months before you apply.

You WILL receive the sign-up bonus if you have a Corporate or Business American Express Green, Gold or Platinum card via your job and you receive Membership Rewards points from it. This is a recent change to the rules. Only PERSONAL cards impact on whether you qualify.

For clarity, you will definitely receive the sign-up bonus on The Platinum Card if you already have a BA Amex, Nectar Amex, Marriott Bonvoy Amex or Platinum Cashback Amex.

You will also definitely receive the bonus if you are currently a supplementary cardholder on someone else’s Amex Gold or Platinum card. As far as Amex is concerned, that card belongs to the primary cardholder and does not make you an ‘existing cardholder’.

Yes, you do receive the SUB.

I already held the BAPP and when I signed up for the Platinum last year, I received the SUB.

I believe the way to think of this is that if you’ve never held a Membership Rewards points earning Amex before in the timeframe of eligibility, you are good. BAPP earn Avios, not MR points.

We did 5-4-4 at Resorts World, Las Vegas last August and it was a great stay. We had a hire car so paid for parking but the location at the top of the strip was less of an issue because of it.

There was a heavy metal concert on for a few of the days we were there so our daily credit was opened up to the other kitchens which gave a lot more choice. The Dawg House was quite limiting but it was reserved for the concert so we only eat there once before it was reserved.

The rest of our trip was a West Coast road trip and we burned through IHG points mostly. IC in SF and IC in LA were the best (and most expensive) we stopped at. The rest, as a family of 4, focused on free breakfast options as that made a huge difference for cash outlay.

They haven’t taken my £12 yet either.

    Scottpat78 238 posts

    I believed you got:

25k welcome bonus, for opening account
    25k switching bonus, if applicable
100k bonus if you opened one or both the premier account and Avios plus account during the promo period.

I also received 26.5K Avios today – 1500 premier Avios that I receive each month and the 25k welcome bonus. Both are showing as paid in my Avios rewards section within the Barclays app.

Would the same therefore apply to your situation and explain it?

    I’m expecting the 150k:

    25k joining bonus
    25k switching bonus
    100k welcome bonus

I received the first 25k joining bonus today along with the 1500 monthly Avios.

I have the ‘you are eligible for 100k’ email from 7th Nov advising me to keep both accounts open until 4th March, which I have done. So expecting those along with the switching bonus in the next 6-8 weeks or so.

For the Plaza Premium & Aspire in LHR T5, it is indeed 1 card for 2 visitors total (card holder + guest).

As a family of 4 with 1 Amex Plat and 1 Supp, we’ve done this across both lounges many times.

Specifically for UK plats, the Plaza Premium lounge in LHR, access policy seems to be cardholder and 1 guest. Can a main cardholder and their supplementary bring 1 guest each so that a total 4 can be allowed in?
