I paid my Amex with Fronted/Metal yesterday – I got an error in the Amex app but the Curve transaction didn’t decline. Left it 30 mins and the payment appeared on my Amex transactions. First month of trying it so need to wait to see if the points post for it in my upcoming statement.

Agree, £60 isn’t that much when you rack up a couple of lounge visits. I have however just taken out a Platinum Amex, which comes with a free supp card and both of us now have access to Priority Plus with a free guest each. For our family of 4, that ticks all the boxes. I just can’t get my head around how an upgrade voucher would actually help our family of 4 and our BAPP 241 vouchers. Plus the hassle of moving banks from HSBC to Barclays to really gain the benefits. I’m still digesting!

@Scottpat78, yes, it’s a close call. Both have their good options. B’card maybe better for solo due to u/g voucher. However, Lounge-key May work better for couples, as 2nd card on ac is v g value. it’s our dilemma atm.

I received this email too. Very keen to see what ‘benefits’ we get and if anything is devalued. I’m on the fence about ditching this and going to Barclaycard. This could be the tipping point.

    Got you, thanks.

@Scottpat78 the 1.5% is for the savings account. Cashback on spending is 1%.

Genuine Q – Have some folks decided that Chase cash back is a better reward opportunity than points when abroad?

I have Curve linked to HSBC WE MC, I use this for all abroad spend and some ATM withdrawals if I absolutely need cash (I donated AUD$300 to the Star Casino Sydney last night for example). I have always tried to ‘just earn points’ on all spend, but at 1.5% cash back, I’m re-thinking that.

Obviously I try to avoid weekend spend with Curve, which isn’t always possible, so not having to think about that would be a bonus. I’m still in the mindset of having points instead of cash back is my preference, not sure if that’s still valid – I know everyone’s circumstances are different.

I travel to the US & AUS quite a lot for work, and try to fit in personal stuff / travel when I am in country, since I normally have free weekends. I’m starting to sway towards cash back instead of points. Any thoughts / advice would be most appreciated, thanks.

I signed up my wife for Supp Platinum the day my card arrived (2 weeks ago). 5,000 MR points were posted in my account a day after acceptance – before the supp card arrived.

If it’s any help, assuming you are staying in the international terminal….. I landed in SYD at 17.06 on Saturday night. I was in my Uber at 17.36.
I was 30 mins to clear immigration (they have lots of e gates and a ticket system), pick up my bag and walk to the pick up point.

Thanks, I’ll give this a go.

Apologies for jumping on this. I forgot to add my Heathrow rewards number to an upcoming parking booking. Can you add your account to the booking retrospectively? I had a look but can’t see any option to do that.

Have done this for Heathrow Express (not parking) via email customerservice@heathrowrewards.com. Note there’s a 3-month limit on the retrospective claims.

I gained entry by showing the card details in my app and confirming my address. Nice lounge!

Sod’s law. The post yesterday arrived (with my platinum card) after I left for London.

Managed to add the card to my Amex account and Apple Pay after someone opened the post for me. Hoping to access the lounge with showing my card in the Amex app.

+1 for the DM to the BA account on flyertalk. I have just done this for missing Aer Lingus flights and Louise sorted out in 2 days. Took another 3 for them to post to my account.

I’ve been on a few AA flights recently and my recent D class flights credited OK. I can’t seem to upload a screenshot from my mobile, but they are there.

+1 for DocHQ. Hit them on their regular site and use RETURN30 to get a video supervised test for £19.50.

Used them for solo trips and a family of 4 in 1 appointment recently and they have been great. Only downside is that the certificate doesn’t seem to be recognised with the QR code for Verifly. So you need to wait on a manual review but that takes 30-60 mins at worst.

We also bought a pack of 5 tests for £20 and took them on our holiday – used them for the 3 day test for the kids and just took a pic of the result.

Yes, I did read up on Radisson and understood the same – thanks. We only have 2 nights in a Radisson and have gone for the Country Inn & Suites at Vallejo Napa Valley. Reviews seem decent.

Awesome read, thanks. We have a 25 day California / Nevada road trip in August burning IHG, Hilton & Radisson points. This has put me right in the mood!

Not much help for your predicament but I signed up on 12th March and I had the Avios on 4th April.

So just over 3 weeks for mine to post.

Glad you got some seats sorted – +1 for the MIA option also, we’ve just returned (4of us) from 12 nights in Florida and we flew into and out of Miami as it had greater availability for reward seats. Very easy drive up to Orlando area.

Thanks John. I was swaying more towards the Hilton’s based on location and this may have confirmed it for me. I’ll likely go for which one is cheapest when booking it. Thanks.

in reply to: Transfer time from LGA to JFK
    Scottpat78 241 posts

Thanks, I am booked on a through ticket so if anything does go wrong, hopefully I can get something without too much drama.

LGA is a dump (although I believe the new terminal B is now fully open) & prone to terrible delays but assuming you dodge any bad weather & go HBO then you have plenty of time for the taxi ride to JFK, the public transport options are rubbish.

Are you booked on a through ticket or self connecting? I’ve been burned before with separate domestic connections in the states so would always make sure I was on a flexible transatlantic ticket or have a contingency plan as delays are far more frequent & they tend to leave you high & dry when things go wrong.

    Scottpat78 241 posts

Awesome, thank you! I did a little searching and it seems it is doable with all things being equal. Appreciate the response.

Hey, I have a business trip to the US coming up and the only return flights that worked were via NYC. I fly into LGA and depart from JFK 3.5 hours later.

This is on a Thursday afternoon from 3PM to 6.30PM – is this enough time to make it across NYC? I’m thinking carry on luggage only going back to cut down on time waiting around in LGA.

Any tips or advice would be great, thanks!

You don’t have to cross NYC, LGA & JFK are on the same side of the city and with ordinary traffic should take comfortably less than 30 minutes.

    Scottpat78 241 posts

Hi. My original complaint was not upheld by creation. I replied stating my position again. I received a full annual fee refund 2 weeks after this in response. I’d say it is definitely worth replying and restating your points and position. I did and it got me a changed outcome. Good luck.

I’ve just received my complaint letter from Creation.

    Strangely not upheld.

I’ve read back a few pages but lots of posts about what’s right and wrong and can only see one where next steps were discussed.

So I now need to write to FOS which I’m happy to do. Would anyone be willing to share a template letter so we are pursuing them on consistent grounds?

    Thanks
